-David was born with an accelerated healing factor, unknowingly, making him the perfect subject for VIPER's Project: Variation, the process to surgically implant a subject with metahuman DNA, giving the subject control over various powers. He awoke to what seemed like a nightmare, strapped to a table, as two doctors were working on him. As he slowly regained consciousness, the doctors yelled "the variant is awakening". Two agents rushed into the room and shot tranquilizers at him. A split second later, David found himself outside of a warehouse in the Westside of Millennium City. Confused and dazed by what had just happened, David just ran. He has since taken on the alias, Variant, in search of answers.
