Toby Rufus

Toby "Tob" Rufus is a 23 year old college student and is the son of Fenris, the God of Wolves. Tob was sired under the name "Lupus" by his father, after Fenris foresaw his own fate at the hands of the nephilim Therakiel the Bright. Toby's mother was a mortal, making him a demigod. Fenris tells his mother to take him in and gives him the surname "Rufus" to mask his identity, but leave a hint of his identity, until the time is right for him to fulfill his destiny.

When Toby was little, a minion of Therakiel attacked his home. In an act of self defence, Toby's powers to control the wolves manifested, and drove the minion away. However, Toby lost control of the wolves, and the feral pack killed his mother. Toby would spend his days on the run until he was picked up by a priest, who raised him in an orphanage. The traumatic experience scarred Toby so badly that he unknowingly fabricated another childhood, a reality where he never met his mother and was sent to an orphanage directly, and subconsciously shut off his demigod powers.

During his battle to prevent the Apocalypse, Therakiel tells the young demigod that during his second battle with his father, Fenris, the god warned him that he had sired a son that will one day be the cause for his downfall, hinting that Tob was destined to defeat Therakiel in a titanic battle. This came to fruition when the two faced off, with the help of Lazarus, Reya, Caliburn, Psylen, and Treya.

Tob joins Team Darkstar under the codename "Tob". After the events of his battle against Therakiel, Tob accepts his demigod heritage as well as his past, and changes his codename to "Lupine".

Appearance

Tob is described to initially be scrawny, but also fat, which he refers to as "chub". Tob has an endomorphic physique and it became apparent from years of not exercising. After training with Jason, Tob's chub begins to disappear, giving him a lean physique. Tob's black hair is styled like a fade, but with his long hair swept to the side. His eyes are described to be "plain looking" by Sam, his roommate. After gaining proficiency with his new wolf transformation, Tob's eyes change, resembling the eyes of a wolf. Tob also gains facial hair through sideburns.

Tob is usually seen wearing assorted hoodies over track pants. Tob has a fascination with different hoodies with different styles, and as a result, his outfit changes frequently. When on mission, Tob also wears a utility belt, which attached is a handgun given to him by Jason. After training with Caliburn, Tob also acquires a pair of sneakers, which he enchants to give him flight.

When Tob uses rune magic, taught to him by Caliburn, orange glowing runes appear on his gun and his sneakers, and he gains a flaming orange aura, which also emits various runes.

In his "Lupine Form", Tob transforms into a huge wolf, with white fur. His size varies with the percentage of his power being used. His eyes and paws glow a flaming white, which leaves a trail of white fire.

Personality

Tob is described to be a funny and humorous individual, often making light of things. These jokes are amplified when Sam is around, and the two enjoy pulling pranks on the other members of Darkstar. Tob is also known to act on his own emotions, unfortunately, these emotions are usually feelings of attraction to various girls he meets. This results in Tob recklessly jumping into the fray to protect or act off of these feelings, which often cause annoyance to his party members.

After transforming into his wolf form and realizing he had hurt Reya, Tob's personality temporarily changes, and Tob gains a self hatred complex, believing himself to be a monster and refusing to talk to Reya. During his fight against Therakiel, Tob regains his memories of his traumatic past, and the Tob matures from the experience.

Despite this, Tob still makes jokes and has the occasional laugh with his squadmates, albeit at a reduced frequency. Tob still serves as a symbol of humour in the team, when the going gets rough.

Powers, Skills, and Abilities

Powers

Demigod Heritage: Tob, as the son of Fenris, possesses the traits of a demigod and some of the powers of his father. This includes the ability to control wolves (though he has yet to master this ability), and a wolf transformation. Tob also gains his father's keen senses, including a sharper eye, reflexes, and smell. This provides him with a powerful foundation upon learning firearms, and because of this, he was initially believed to be a prodigy. Rune Magic: Tob does not possess mana, so Caliburn teaches Tob to use rune magic, that involves enchanting certain items. Tob uses Rune Magic to enchant his handgun and his sneakers, gaining him flight. When Tob enchants his handgun, his usual dark energy blasts become laced with rune magic, further amplifying its damage.
