Team Darkstar is a Croftian resistance force led by John Crypt, and Amana Cross. The team is composed of members originating from different universes. Their primary precept is to overthrow the New Militia and defeat Calliope Ariandal of Croft. While composed of several capable fighters, the team focuses on tactical assault and vigilante operations through planned missions over front end war due to the vast size of their enemy. While initially a cleanup squad in Earth Pr, the team migrated to The Champions Universe, and has since been regarded as a vigilante activist group by the people of Croft.

Overview

Team Darkstar's goal is to carry out strategically planned missions to weaken the influence of The New Militia over Croft. Their ultimate goal is to defeat Calliope Ariandal, eliminate the reign of the Infernals and Avatars, and restore the Mage Order to the country. Despite most of their missions being in Croft, Darkstar has occasionally sent members to other universes to do missions as well, the most notable ones being a mission that sent John, Sam, and Amana to his original universe to investigate Decen's past, and a mission that sent Lazarus, Tob, and Reya to Multifaria to help Griz in defeating Harmon.

Members

Team Darkstar is composed of members of differing origins. Each member that joins the team brings their own skills and talents to the table, and due to the small size of the group, the members are considered family.

John "The Black Jason" Crypt: John "Jason" Crypt is the co-leader of Darkstar and one of the founders. Jason is a Remnant of Decen, Paladin of War, and is considered the most battle hardened out of all the members of the group. Jason was initially soul-linked to Sentry, until passing it over to Blackflame to be his successor. Jason currently wields Sentry's Katana, and when in contact with the weapon he is soul-linked to the Underworld itself, granting him access to immense reserves of dark energy, superhuman strength, speed, and agility that surpasses his original power in the Mage Academy. Jason's technique is further refined by implanting Sentry's Samurai style during his training in the Formation.

Amana "The Fox" Cross: Amana was the other co-leader of Darkstar. As a half infernal, Amana possesses the skills and powers of a high ranking infernal creature, including superhuman agility, a hard light fox tail, combat skill, and a healing factor. She frequently partners with Jason in missions. Her charisma, caring attitude provides the emotional robustness in the team, and her natural inspirational attitude gives the team morale, solidifying her position as team leader. Amana is regarded as the most strategic and intelligent of the team, often devising and planning the missions for Darkstar to carry out alongside Crypt. In battle, Amana is capable of coming up with strategies on the spot. She is regarded as the current Calliope's foil by Jason, due to being strategic yet compassionate. After being repurposed by The Pact, Amana has access to a powerful celestial form, which greatly amplifies her abilities.

Lawrence "Lazarus" Wright: Lawrence is the official second in command to Darkstar. His codename is "Lazarus". Lazarus first interacts with Darkstar after a scuffle with one of its members, Blackflame. Lazarus joins the team after being rescued from the Capita. Due to his past with Jason, Lazarus is entrusted with leading the team should something happen to the current co-leaders. Lazarus was a soul-link host to The Goatman. Capable of team support, healing, and crowd control magic, Lazarus acted as the field medic to the team. During his training and heroic feats in Millennium City with the Champions, Lazarus was capable of forming more advanced spells and hard light constructs for offense. After striking a deal with The Pact, Lazarus sacrifices his Soul Link with the Goatman, making him unpowered.

Toby "Lupine" Rufus: Toby is one of the founders to Darkstar, and a close friend to Blackflame. Tob is a demigod, son of Fenris, God of Wolves, who was born under the birth name "Lupus". Tob is capable of transforming into his "Lupine Form", which is a massive white wolf with immense strength and speed that was able to fight the likes of Therakiel head on. The size of his wolf form depends on how much power he accesses, with the drawback of stamina drain. When not in his Lupine Form, Tob battles with his enchanted dark energy handgun and boots. Tob's prodigal talent in firearms makes him a powerful ranged fighter alongside Trill Cohen, and his Lupine wolf form makes him a devastating melee force.

Ferris "Overseer" Wheeler: John's original strength and conditioning coach and first friend, Wheeler is the owner of the gym, the current base of operations for Darkstar. While incapable of a soul link, Wheeler is able to control Earth magic to a degree where he can provide defensive support to his allies. He prefers to survey and maintain the base of operations to the team, and provide vision support to the team through his stone seekers. Wheeler frequently accompanies John during Sam's strength training. Ferris undergoes training with Lazarus to learn new offensive spells, and develops "Gaea's Armor", a powerful stone overmold that acts both as the perfect offence and defence. The more powerful he channels this spell, the bigger the armor becomes, until it becomes a huge earth golem.

Trill "Coldarrow" Cohen: A former mage turned partial Avatar, Trill was an enemy to Jason and Lazarus back when they were in Team Trinity. After the events of his torture at the hands of Calliope Ariandal, he turns a new leaf and decides to help Team Darkstar on missions as a field agent. He is the current soul-link host to The Hyperborean, and his proficiency in archery and cryokinesis greatly compliments Tob's skillset. The two go on missions frequently, usually stealth based. Trill is also capable of spatial magic due to being merged with a Spatial Type infernal, and if in great danger, can subconsciously transform into his Avatar state. Though he is unable to control it. After being repurposed by The Pact, Trill has access to a powerful celestial form, which greatly amplifies his abilities.

Reya "Reverb" Park: An orphaned meta human citizen of Croft, Reya was taken into Darkstar's base for refuge by Tob. Although originally not an active contributor, Reya assists Amana while planning Darkstar's operations. She is capable of sound manipulation through shockwaves and force manipulation. Due to her trauma, she is initially only able to talk with Amana, and occasionally with Ferris. During the training arc, Reya, with Lazarus' help, gains self confidence. Reya looks up to Amana and Lazarus, aspiring to be a hero like them. She accompanied Lazarus on his mission in Multifaria, and underwent training with Sapphire in Millennium City for a few weeks.

Dennis "Joust" Wagner: A cocky gravity-type meta human from Multifaria. Wagner joins Lazarus, Reverb, and Tob during their mission to help the Multifarian resistance defeat Harmon. Wagner dubs himself "Joust", due to his "signature" force cascade damage. Tob tells Wagner about his adventure with Darkstar, causing Wagner to become determined to join the squad. He initially had a rivalry with Tob over Reya, but has since moved on, hoping to find a date with other girls in Croft. Following his confrontation against another gravity manipulator, Gravitar, Dennis is viciously defeated. After some eye opening words of encouragement from Lazarus, Wagner realizes there's more to being a hero than the name and reputation. Wagner becomes more mature and selfless, and unlocks the ability to slow time, which gives him an edge in single handedly defeating a Corrupted Gravitar.

Junon Gareth: Junon was a classmate of John Crypt in his early college years and was his first crush due to her upbeat attitude and "cute" appearance. After the events of the Automaton invasion, Junon becomes traumatized and undergoes a personality shift from a cheerful bubbly popular girl type to an unstable vulnerable person. After rescuing what she thought was a cybernetically converted John Crypt, Junon starts a relationship with him, but upon learning of his true identity as Adam Blair, becomes emotionally distraught, blaming Jason, the real John, for her ordeal. Jason takes a grieving Junon into Darkstar for refuge after Adam and Ally's death. Junon sees Jason as a strong, protective figure and unintentionally develops romantic feelings for him after Jason forgives her, despite Jason already being in a relationship with Amana Cross. Junon frequently tried to make excuses to spend time with Jason, even volunteering to join on his missions despite having no powers.

Junon eventually moves on and develops a relationship with Mavus Shaw.

Samuel "Blackflame" Mason: Sam was one of the founders to Darkstar, and is the current soul-link host to The Sentry, Bridget (formerly), as well as the Reincarnation of Decen. Due to being the host to Sentry, and being a Paladin Reincarnate, Sam is regarded as the strongest member of the team, but due to his lack of judgement, quick thinking, and strategy, he is also considered the loose cannon. Sam's power is controlled through three transformations, Darkfire Form 1-3, each form increasing drastically in power compared to the other. Sam is the only member capable of close, medium, and long range combat with his Darkfire affinity. Due to his unique skillset, he is often chosen to go on missions of high importance, but must go under the supervision of either John or Amana.

Unofficial Members

Darkstar also houses certain people who stay, but are not officially a part of the team. These members are considered "temporary", or are partially affiliated.

Clyde: Clyde the "homeless rapper" is rescued by Lazarus during one of Multifaria's resistance missions. Lazarus protects Clyde from a Destroid, and Clyde has followed Lazarus ever since, much to the annoyance of Reya, Tob, and Dennis. Clyde offers to join Darkstar in exchange for providing some "fire bars". Lazarus lets Clyde stay with the group until he is able to afford a place to live himself. Clyde is often considered comic relief, and frequently offers Lazarus a smoke, after Lazarus reveals that he used to smoke and do drugs in a past life. Clyde eventually moves out of the hideout to a place of his own. However, Clyde still comes to visit Lazarus during their off-days.

Base of Operations

Darkstar initially operates from Wheeler's Gym. Under the guise of a regular gym, the hideout is located in a secret basement complex in the building. The hideout is only accessible through the staff room. The entire gym is reinforced and protected by Wheeler's Earth Magic, and security is maintained through Wheeler's Stone Golems and Seekers. The hideout's security is further amplified by Lazarus by placing a modified "Sigils of Radiant Sanctuary" spell within key structural components of the building, masking the hideout from vision-based infernals or operatives.

Members of Darkstar use this hideout as a residence, with multiple rooms for facilities, and a common room for which the members can socialize, sleep, and eat, and is where Wheeler watches over the gym and members during missions. A separate room is reserved for planning and strategy.

The gym was initially infested by soul beasts, hence business was at an all time low, until John cleaned the monsters up, improving operating conditions. Wheeler's gym has since gained more reputation and business.

After the events of Calliope's invasion on the slums, the gym has since been taken over by the New Militia. It is suspected that Darkstar's new hideout will be in Kyrael's Fortress.

Alliances

Darkstar has built up several alliances with other factions and groups, due to their adventures in other dimensions and neighbouring countries.

The Champions: During his time in Millennium City, Lazarus' heroic exploits become noticed by Defender and the Champions. Lazarus has since collaborated with the team in numerous missions. When Lazarus introduces Reya, Sapphire gladly trains her in controlling her powers.

Kyrael Prima of Corinth: Kyrael is an old friend to Decen, and by extension has a soft spot for his remnants. Kyrael and Jason have a strong friendship. Kyrael helps Sam control his Hunter's Eye, and offered to help Jason's team rescue Junon. Kyrael offers the Inquisition's services if Jason requires it.

The Steel Pack: Steel, a dragon slaying operative working under Kyrael in the Inquisition, develops a bond with Blackflame after a sparring session. The two frequently partied together and had drinks. Steel considers Sam a great and powerful ally, and welcomes a collaboration with his team to slay monsters.

Merrow Rivenlight: Merrow, Decen's Guardian, has taken a liking to Jason due to being Decen's Remnant, as well as Sam, being soul linked to Decen's Familiar. Later in the story, Merrow discovers that Sam is a reincarnation of Decen, and supports him in his battle against Calliope Ariandal. Merrow offers her services when the time comes for Jason and Sam to battle Calliope, as well as her master, Mogul.

Trivia

1) Ferris Wheeler is the most physically built member of the team. The second is John "Jason" Crypt, and the third being Lawrence Wright.
