Ivan Volkov was born in Moscow, Russia, much like the majority of his future children, born in poverty and disdain. He was born to a father, who later died due to pneumonia. He was raised by his mother in a modest abode, fighting his way through school while his mother worked three jobs to support him and his three other brothers. He quickly became engrossed with the lifestyle of the mob in school, and always said that he would be the next big deal. Many laughed, thinking he was quite kidding, when, in truth, he was not. As he moved up in the education world, he started researching the major mob groups that resounded in Russia, and quickly began his ever cunning scheme.
A scheme that can only be described as his own version of Russian Roulette.
Nasia Tisdova was born in Yemtsa, Russia to a very large family, comprised of three sisters and five other brothers. She was the youngest, and quite possibly the smallest of them all, being that she was a... what one would call an "oops" baby. Her mother was thought to have been too old to have more children but with her birth, this proved to be naught. Sadly, however, her mother passed away with her birth and the parenting skills were left to her anxious engineer of a father, and a raggedy grandmother who was just as sharp with a cane as she was with her tongue.
After several years, Nasia grew to be a fine young woman who decided to further her education by going to college in Moscow. She was going to learn how to speak English so that she could be a translator for the Government. It had been her dream to one day move to the States and become a politician. It was her dream. That is, until she met an ambitious young man by the name of Ivan Volkov, who quickly gained her interest. He was a rather short fellow that had a very charismatic way of getting to know certain individuals amongst their peers. She was such a person that he had taken a liking too.
It wasn't long before the two became rather close, a courtship if you will, before he moved onto to the next target on his list. What he did not know was that he left her with something a bit more intriguing than most ex-lovers. He left her with a child.
Nikolai Tisdova was born on August 30th, 1985 in a small room of her grandmother's house. Her mother had chosen a private birthing so as to avoid the scandle as much as possible. Her mother was already facing repercussions from her mother due to having relations out of wedlock and then not marrying the man that would be the father of her child. Instead, she decided to take care of the child on her own, with help from her mother, of course. She did the right thing, which was to inform Ivan that he was a father. However, at that time, he did not hold any concern or wish to be apart of Nikolai's life.
Nikolai was born with Ivan's raven black hair, which in of itself was an oddity, considering her mother was fair and blonde haired. However, she did inherit her mother's eyes of pure blue, though Nikolai's took on a shade lighter than the others, making many believe that she was blind at first. However, she actually had superb eyesight and hearing.
She was an exceptionally bright child growing up, which is what her mother feared in the young girl. She feared that she was going to live a life that she never could, seeing the smile light up on her own daughter's face. It eventually started to bear a pang of hatred in her mother, forcing her to wipe the smile off of her face with a switch. She started to work quickly to position her in a place of fear. And it worked. Whenever skin was shown, Nikolai was switched. She had to dress in all black so as not to appear pretty or desirable to men. She was taught that men were to be stayed away from, for fear that they would hurt if not abandon her.
Her mother's training continued on up until her death when Nikolai was 10 years old in December. She had caught a deadly case of pneumonia that had her off of her feet. During this time, Ivan was informed of the woman's death and took note of it. He also took note of his child that was beginning to grow. He took the time to oversee her makeup and realizing that she did indeed carry a latent meta-human gene, he started to work on his new plan.
Nikolai's training and upbringing was soon taken up by her Grandmother, who was harsher than her own mother. She was not to show a sign of weakness, a sign of vulnerability, for those around her would pray on her, as was her Grandmother's words. Her training in these ways did not stop up until she was a teenager of fifteen, when she received the summons to a funeral to a man she had never met.
Her father.
Nikolai Tisdova was taken to a large estate with her Grandmother where she was sat in a large room filled with many other individuals in dark clothing. She knew none of them. They knew nothing of her. A large projection was pulled up so that everyone could listen to Ivan Volkov's Will and Testament that he had recorded himself some years back. The recording played as such:
I apologize for my demise, as it was unexpected and yet was not... However, it comes to the point in the day where I must delegate my belongings and property as assigned to my will and testament. My successor will be one of illegitimate birth and not my daughter, Natasha, as I feel she has committed too many atrocities to her family and name. My legal heir, and new head of the Volkov house, is my daughter:
Nikolai Tisdova..."
The room fell silent as everyone turned to look at the young girl who sat in quiet and shocked silence. Her Grandmother was also in shock and stared down at her granddaughter. Ivan continued to go on on the screen, stating that her education and further living quarters would be on the mansion and not with her Grandmother. That her Grandmother would be escorted out so that Nikolai could continue as head of house in peace. There was a scream from the other side of the room from a girl, about seventeen years old, a girl Nikolai would later find out was Natasha Volkov, his old heir.
As apart of Nikolai's new position, her last name was changed to Volkov, and she was assigned body guards so as to monitor her position every day. This was when Nikolai was made aware of her father's dealings that would make him the most feared man in all of Russia. She found that he was a successful mob boss, one who conned and grifted money from other mobs in order to fund everything around them. She decided to take the fortune that was given to her and opened an orphanage named 'Sacred Heart', to keep the children of Moscow off of the streets.
Nikolai went head first into her studies, learning languages and different forms of marital arts so as to defend herself. She learned how to use the pistols and blades so as to keep herself safe in case her bodyguards could not. By the time she was twenty years old, Nikolai Volkov was the talk of Russia as being the most generous women in the country. She had opened many different charitable organizations while building relations with other businesses to keep her wealth afloat. She found out the different other illegitimate brothers and sisters of her father and provided to them education and protection.
When she was twenty-four, she moved to the States to continue her work as a helper, and soon as a hero, as when she arrived to the strange place that was known as Millennium City, she found her skills were needed. She took on the name of Roulette and began her cause of peace.
