:Mason Kenerly never once thought that he would be given the task of protecting the universe. In fact, Kenerly never saw himself amounting to much in life. He seemed to have a set life. He would marry his high school sweetheart, have a few children, and go to work day in and day out for the next few decades, and that would be that.  However, as destiny would have it, Kenerly would become a formidable player in the roles of order and chaos in the grand cosmos.
+

+
:Much of Mason's early life is shrouded in mystery. It is speculated that he was the second child of four, with two loving upper class parents. He did about average in school, without any notable events for the better or worse taking place. From a young age, Kenerly wanted to be a painter, and was constantly doodling and painting on whatever paper he could find. He could never find a theme or style that he enjoyed painting. Looking around, there was little that he wanted to paint. After a trip to the desert, a twelve year old Mason looked up at the night sky, and discovered one of the most beautiful starry nights he had ever witnessed.
+

+
:Growing up in the action-filled "city" of Manhattan, young Mason never found time to sit down and practice his craft. Still, he did excellent throughout his educational years. Everyday blurred together as he played through the dull motions of junior high school and regular high school. As a side benefit of staying out of trouble and doing well in his schoolwork, he met the alluring Hannah Orson. They hit it off and dated through high school. Going to the same college (Columbia University), they kept in close contact and spent a lot of time together. After a few too many drinks and a blurry night, Hannah discovered that she was pregnant days later.
+

+
:After they both dropped out of college, they rented a small one bedroom apartment in a safe part of town. Forced to work multiple jobs while Hannah stayed at home and prepared herself, Mason felt added stress and pressures physically and emotionally take their toll. They started fighting more and more, arguing about trivial matters. Yet, that all changed when their daughter, Charlotte, was born. The couple grew closer and eventually were married. the next few years were fun and enjoyable. They seemed like the perfect family. That would all change by a war that had been raging in the starry heavens for eons.

+
:When the Netzach lord and scientist, Rubikon (shown center, left), sparked the "Forged Wars", the universe was knocked out of balance. Two mysterious entities, the Entropites and the Aetherites, joined forces to defeat the Netzach conqueror. In a fascinating yet wicked twist of mysticism, Rubikon turned the two races against each other. For the next several millenia, while the universe was still young, the two races fought their primitive struggles for dominance over the developing cosmos. Collecting a group of primitive mages, artificers, and the like, both sides created unique artifact-devices to aid their wars: the Starheart, and the Ebonheart.
+

+
:It is unknown why Rubikon first sparked the war. Perhaps he needed the two devices to be desperately made, but that is just speculation. The two devices are quite powerful on their own, but when combined? They can desolate entire civilizations in minutes. They devices are difficult to operate, which may be the only downside. As the Entropites implanted the Ebonheart in one of their warriors, the Aetherites desperately searched for someone pure enough to contain the Starheart. As the universe had began to solidify and form,
+

+
:Worse yet, the leader of the Aetherites' forces had been slain in a battle on Mars (for the Milky Way galaxy had been fully formed for years now), they turned their eyes to Earth. In a time of desperate need, they found a few select individuals worthy of leading their ancient armies. Mason Kenerly was not one of these. In an act of the Ebonheart, all nineteen of the worthy men and women perished overnight for differing reasons. Mason Kenerly was frowned upon for his somewhat dull and average life, but times were changing. They needed someone and they needed someone fast.
+

+
:It was a horrific experience for Mason. Being suddenly woken up in the middle of the night by bizarre lifeforms and having a plate-sized device slowly, painfully implanted in your chest is quite an experience. By unexplainable means, Mason survived the encounter. One question that always comes to mind was where his wife and daughter were during the ordeal. In a short answer, they had since moved out months ago. With Charlotte now five and in school, more stress added to everything. Eventually, Hannah Orson-Kenerly and their daughter Charlotte moved out. The couple decided to get a divorce in the near future.
+

+
:Mason was very confused. Without time to ask questions or understand everything, he was thrust to a distant planet, nicknamed the "Grey-Sun". To this day, he refused to reveal what exactly happened on that planet. It was rumored that he spent days on end practicing his craft and figuring out how to work the Starheart. It was said that he led the Aetherites to a victory, but in the end, both races were destroyed. Except for Mason and the other wielder, the one in control of the Ebonheart: Blackwing.
+

+
:Returning to Earth four years later, Mason was a changed man. Although many refused to believe him, his daughter, Charlotte, had full faith in him. The two bonded quite a bit, and when the divorce occurred, Mason kept rights to his daughter. Hannah moved to Japan months later, and hasn't kept in contact since. However, Mason and Charlotte have been doing well since moving to Millennium City a year ago.

:Since moving to Millennium City, Mason and Charlotte have had a successful and calm life. She is now twelve years old and excelling in junior high school. Mason is a full time hero, but manages to sell some paintings for a moderate sum of cash. The first year in the city was quite chaotic. On one such occasion, he and a small group of heroes combated several Qularr beats, no doubt experiments. They had an unnatural fascination with the downed mothership lurking in Detroit River. The situation is still being looked into. After receiving a communication's device from PRIMUS operators after extensive training. He is looking to make a big impact in 2014.
+

+
:With Rubikon threatening to return, he can only prepare and assemble a group ready to combat the undying wickedness. It is rumored that Rubikon will be joining forces with Blackwing, the stellar-pirate who still harnesses the Ebonheart's essence. Things are looking quite intense for the new year, and one can only hope and pray that the world that they have come to know and love can survive "Threat Rising".

:Mason Kenerly stands at just over six feet tall and weighs 229 lbs. He has an intimidating presence, as he is quite muscular and a bit barrel-chested. He has a shaved head and a neatly combed and trimmed mustache accompanied by a neat goatee or a full beard. However, he often shaves during the earlier part of the year. While many regard him as an average, or normal, appearance, some have noted he has a gentleman-like handsomeness. Others regard him as having a rugged quality.
+

+
:Some have noticed he has a striking resemblance to WWE Superstar Randy Orton (shown right). Mason has always responded to this claim with: "That's pretty damn cool." While they do have similar appearances, Charlotte (Mason's daughter), can point out distinct differences between the two. Still, the two are near lookalikes, sans the tattoos.
+

+
:Mason Kenerly is a very fit and healthy individual, with a runner or swimmer's physique. Since moving to Millennium City, though, he has been packing on more and more muscle to compete with the other heroes. It is a career, and many heroes are battling each other, unknowingly, to get to the top. Mason acknowledges this, and is acting accordingly. So, he is often seen at Carl's Gym, a frequent stop and near-landmark in the city's West Side, involving himself in strength training and some cardio.
+

+
:Mason Kenerly is without any tattoos or "ink" on his body. When he was younger he wanted full sleeves and some across his back, but his girlfriend at the time, Hannah Orson, did not want him to be doing that. To this day, he has never gotten the tattoos he desired. He used to have both of his ears pierced and his lip as well, but has since had those taken out, roughly around the time he and Hannah entered their second year of college. He has gone from a punk rocker to a mature adult, and it shows in his appearance.

+
:Mason has several sides to his personality. He often portrays himself as a quiet, serious man, but that is just a front. When he was in high school, he was very much a "punk rocker", and acted out of impulse. While he did do well in school grade-wise, he had poor behavior. He was expelled on one occasion for lighting a trashcan's contents on fire.
+

+
:Although he is not very funny, he does love to laugh. He always looks at things in a positive light and is quick to help, console, or comfort anyone in need.  he says it is important for heroes to be kind and compassionate, even more so than powerful. He does not act with passion or ignorance, but rather uses knowledge and a calm demeanor to handle hero-business.
+

+
:That said, he does enjoy a certain amount of flair while on patrol. He often overdoes his actions or emotions to add drama to his assignments. He doesn't answer questions regarding this fact ad will not likely in the future. Perhaps he enjoys his hero work and wants to take everything to 200%? Either way, be in for a big show when teaming up with Protostar.
+

+
:He may seem arrogant or egotistical at times, but he is by no means a narcissist. He is just sure of his own ability to handle himself in most situations, and does well. He does have empathy for those who deserve it. People living on the street because they didn't have any money spent all their money on drugs won't get any respect or pity from Mason. He doesn't feel bad for this when other heroes reprimand him for doing so. He believes that there are no mistakes in life, only choices.
+

+
:Mason Kenerly does have a more creative side than a logical side, although he switches between both of them seamlessly. As noted before, he loves to paint, and is quite the artist. Every so often, he will sell a painting for a relatively cheap price to local buyers. His work isn't in museums yet, but he has high hopes that they will in the future.

+
:Protostar can fly through air and space without an apparent means of propulsion. Flight is perhaps the most desired power in the history of the world. The Power rank determines the maximum speed the hero can attain in a specific condition. He is able to resist almost all forms of air friction, and even some found in space. However, what he makes up for in speed, he lacks in agility, making wide turns difficult without his armors. Flight includes, as a side effect, resistance to atmospheric friction and lungs adapted to breathe high velocity wind.
+

+
:Protostar has a limited form of light emission, a side effect to is solar gifts. He can emit a powerful burst of light, of any color or intensity, in order to illuminate the immediate area, dispel "Shadow Powers", or temporarily blind opponents. He can also create crude holograms or even burn some with his light emission. On some occasions, he can causing the breakdown of molecular or atomic bonds, negate conductivity and any magnetic fields, and change some local weather phenomenon, such as small cyclones or strong winds.
+

+
:Mason can also create force fields to protect anything within from any emitted energy forms, whether natural, artificial, or Power-based. Such attacks include light, heat and flame, plasma, hard radiation, electricity, vibration, sonics, cold, or kinetic bolts. He also has a bestowed resistance to such attacks, but no natural defenses against magic.
+

+
:When Protostar is about to die, the Starheart forces him into a state of "Iron Will" as a last effort to survive. When in this state, Mason has complete conscious control over his mind and body. By using his Iron Will, Protostar can temporarily halt the damage done by mental or physical attacks; he can even postpone his own death. However, the power does have a limit, a limit unknown to Protostar. Eventually, he will pass out from exhaustion.
+

+
:One of Protostar's most iconic abilities is one which allows him to fire small bolts of solar energy, nicknamed "Starbolts". These are small blasts of energy that can burn or blind. Either way, the pack one heck of a punch! The intensity of the blast depends on how tired Protostar is. If he is exhausted, near death, or injured, the bolts will be weaker. However, when he is at full strength, he can launch a volley of extremely-powerful energy beams.
+

+
:Gifted with the Starheart, Protostar gained a natural, enhanced strength. He is a Type I superhuman, capable of lifting up anything from cars, buses, and trucks of great size. On one rare occasion, he knocked over a cruise ship while it was in the water during a fight with a Qularr experiment. Don't worry, no one was inside, at least not to anyone's knowledge. He can go toe to toe with most big-bads, that's for sure. He can also travel along astral waves and enter some dimensions, but this causes great strain on his heart and can result in near-death.

:The Starheart: Protostar's heart is fused to the Starheart, which is where the name originated. It is the pure source of all of his superhuman abilities. It primarily allows him to fly at incredible speeds, manipulate solar energy, control certain aspects of the weather, and so on. It is a large device, about the size of a dinner plate, that wraps around the heart. However, there is a small group of wire-like mechanisms that actually pierce the heart. Mason Kenerly must be careful while using the device; too much strain can put him into cardiac arrest. To this day, scientists are dumbfounded by the simplicity of the Starheart. Others are curious as to why it isn't connected to his brain.
+

+
:Cosmic Mask: The mask (shown left) is an incredible device. Protostar found it in Detroit River on a fishing trip weeks after the Starheart was fused to his person. Although this particular item and the costume that went with it have been retired, Protostar keeps a close eye on it. The mask is relatively simple to use. The wearer only needs to place it on their face.  The mask serves as a virtual telescope of sorts, allowing the user to see the stars millions of miles away. Protostar used it, and continues to use it, for detecting emergencies throughout the universe. However, it served as a constant distraction, and the item was eventually retired.
+

+
:The Golden Age Outfit: When Protostar first became a registered superhero, he had a costume made (shown left) to match his Cosmic Mask. It was made of bullet proof materials and latex. While many of the older generation appreciated the older look, the more modern day crowd disliked it and even made fun of it. Protostar kept it for only one year, his first year. He still keeps it just in case. He has a certain respectable fondness for the outfit and he refuses to have it upgraded. The Golden Age Outfit had little space for additional devices. It's only feature was it's bullet-proof material.
+

+
:"Protostarmor" V.1-3: The first three armors Protostar ordered was developed by a semi-infamous, yet unheard of organization known as "Manifest Destiny". It has a spectacular array of gadgets and devices, and numerous features. First off is his face-plate, which reads information on targets or objects almost immediately. He can connect to several different frequencies, and hack into others. Secondly, the armor allows him to fly even faster, with top speeds reaching near sonic speeds at full power. The armor is primarily for deep-space missions. It has some Kendrium alloy (represented by the deep-blue color) and solid titanium (the lighter blue), with a black body sleeve for added protection. One of the most popular features of the armor are the two gauntlets. They have light machine gun functions, can fire tracer missiles as well as concussive grenades, carry some flamethrower fuel, and a wide variety of ammunition possible. The armor has several coolant systems so the technology doesn't overheat.
+

+
:"Jupiter" Armor: Protostar, on occasion, requires a massive, nearly indestructible piece of armor for protection in deadly environments. Whenever he needs to venture off past the Asteroid Belt and off to the gas planets, he takes his impressive system of armor. Although it lacks offensive technology, it has greater thrust and more protection. The full-helmet has the detection ability close to the Cosmic Mask. While clunkier and less maneuverable, this armor is quite reliable and deadly as a brick.

:Mason Kenerly is just a human, a regular adult male. While the Starheart does give him added resistance to heat and light, he can still get sick and will eventually die. He is even more susceptible to organ failure, and it is estimated he will die by cardiac arrest within the decade. However, this is disputed, because the Starheart has a built in function known as Iron Will (see Powers & Abilities). This serves as a sudden revival, and puts the user in a static state of being.
+

+
:Every once in a while, Protostar will have what he calls "Dimensional Sickness". The Starheart allows him to see and visit other astral dimensions at will. However, he hates doing this, because it causes intense migraines, stomach pain, and fatigue. The process of opening portals (shown right) is also strenuous to body and mind. He rarely does so, but if required in an emergency, he will act accordingly.
+

+
:Mason Kenerly's mind is a bit weak, due to the intensity of his powers. He is extremely weak against telepathic assaults, and has a low willpower against it. He has tried building devices and ordering them, but to no avail. His helmet somewhat protects him from Psionics; the Cosmic Mask, for whatever reason, makes things worse. Perhaps the ability to see the entire universe at once is not appropriate for an ordinary man?
