"Every woman should have four pets in her life. A mink in her closet, a jaguar in her garage, a tiger in her bed, and a jackass who pays for everything."

Natasha "Jordan" Shaw, also known as Prism, is a celebrity superheroine based in Millennium City, MI. Shaw catapulted to superstardom when part of a group of vigilante heroes in New York City, and remained a controversial figure in the city's superhero culture for several years before relocating. She joined the renowned supergroup Eternals, Inc. in Millennium City, and enlisted in the Frontiersmen some time after, and is often accompanied by her partner Warden.

"She has a soul of steel. She has the face of the most beautiful of women, and the mind of the most resolute of men. There are no lengths to which she would not go -- none."

Prism was born on October 25, [REDACTED] in Long Island, NY, and moved shortly after to Scarsdale with her father and sister due to her parents' divorce. With a successful surgeon for a father and a notable artist of a mother, she enjoyed a comfortable upper-class childhood and grew up among New York's high society. Jordan attended Stuyvesant High School, participating in theater and tennis, and later attended Smith College. Though she and her father had never been close-knit, they got along peacefully until it was time for Jordan to transition into college. As an aspiring artist, she had hoped to go to a prominent New York art school, while her father encouraged her to study something more practical. Her father would not pay for her to pursue what he thought a frivolous subject, and a chasm grew between them; Jordan was eager to be rid of him after graduation. Her mother moved further upstate, and her carefree lifestyle was a source of amusement to Jordan until they grew closer after her father's death.

Jordan knew from age 12 that she was a mutant with the ability to manipulate energy. She viewed her powers with general indifference and hid them until she was accidentally outed as a mutant in college, by her roommate who discovered her glowing in the dark. Subsequently shunned by her peers, she kept to herself until she was inducted into a group of militant mutant students. She dated and eventually got engaged a psychic called Satellite, the de facto leader of the group, who helped her understand her abilities and introduced her to the Boston area's seedy villain culture. Jordan used her looks and her skill with subliminal sonic influence to rise easily through the ranks, but reneged when a mission she lead caused a civilian death. Though she had enormous success in school and had her pick of graduate schools, Jordan chose to start fresh, and so packed up and left the city - and her fiancé - for New York.

"I live my life and I do what I do, and sometimes you forget that people are watching you."

Out of a job and with an empty resumé, Jordan stayed with some of her mutant friends from college, eventually getting roped back into their vigilante lifestyle and taking the name Dancefloor. She took modeling gigs by day to support herself while training to refine her powers by night. While her modeling career never took off, she drew attention as a heroine for her flashy powers, good looks, influential style and prominent charity work. After only a few months in the city, her popularity surged and she became a notable public figure, attending galas, talk shows, and charity events regularly and relishing her status as a fashion icon and tabloid fodder.

Despite her popularity, her socialite lifestyle and apparent airhead personality rendered her a joke as a superhero and she was not taken seriously by either criminals or her peers. Serial celebrity flings further reduced her credibility and damaged her reputation so much that she grew disgruntled and went into withdrawal.

During a riot on Roosevelt Island in August 2012, her father was killed in the chaos. Unable to cope with both her fall from grace and his death, Jordan fled once again to her mother's house in upstate New York, moving to Millennium City, MI at her sister's suggestion shortly after.

"This is how a star makes her entrance."

Jordan lived with her sister for a few months after moving to Millennium City but could not adjust to life in the suburbs and bought a downtown apartment where she lived with fellow superhero Mister Fifth. Equipped with a new costume, a new name, and a better grasp on her powers, she joined renowned supergroup Eternals, Inc. and successfully re-established herself as a celebrity and a heroine. Aside from a short hiatus after the Eternals disbanded, Jordan has remained active in the city's superhero community - this time with more awareness of how to handle the public eye - and can frequently be seen with her partner Warden. Prism is currently a member of fledgling supergroup Frontiersmen.

Powers
Strobe Powers.png

Prism.png
Prism is an immensely powerful mutant with intricate energy wielding abilities. Her body absorbs all types of energy, though she can only manipulate light and sound. Her signature ability is the creation of a skin-tight shield of hard light, which quickly depletes her energy reserves but renders her indestructible as long as she can maintain it. Prism is a formidable combatant due to incoming energy buffing her own powers, but she has no mental defenses, and tires easily in her shell form.
  • Frickin' Laser Beams - Primary ability is energy manipulation, projection and absorption; with it she can emulate telekinesis, create lasers, concussive beams, constructs, shields, holograms, intense flashes, patterns, and body armor.
  • Make Me Wanna Shout - Amplifies, nullifies, manipulates and replicates sound waves. Capable of echolocation, echokinesis, disorienting screams, vibration emission, and creation of sonic constructs. Prism can discharge subsonic sound waves to alter enemies' equilibrium or emotions.
  • Invisibility - Bends light to make herself or others invisible; this takes an enormous amount of concentration on her part, and she can only affect others tactilely. Invisibility combined with her ability to nullify sound makes her very stealthy.
  • Energy Absorption - She can absorb energy she feels coming into direct contact with her body and use it to bolster her own abilities, or expel stored energy in powerful bursts.
  • Sensory Overload - Prism can render her enemies helpless through a combination of disorienting lights, unsettling sounds, and pulsing energy waves.

Nigh Invulnerability - Can encase herself in a skin-tight layer of extremely durable hard light.

Personality
Strobe Personality.png

  • Attention Whore - Confident, good-looking, cosmopolitan, and witty, Jordan attracts attention, knows it, and thrives on it.
  • I Have Boobs, You Must Obey - She is no stranger to using her looks to her advantage and has no problem objectifying herself to achieve her needs.
  • Spoiled Brat - She is wealthy not by her own volition and had an easy, comfortable upbringing, so is sometimes out of touch with how normal people live and often expects others to do her bidding.
  • Manipulative Bitch - Prism knows she is perceived as superficial; however, she is deceptively savvy, pragmatic, and elusive.
  • Unscrupulous Hero - Has trouble adhering to strict moral codes. She won't kill or torture, but perhaps enjoys chaos and combat a little too much.
  • Stubborn Mule - Vehemently independent and will refuse help even when she's fully aware that she needs it.
  • Dominatrix - She is a fiercely vocal and passionate feminist.
  • Jerk With a Heart of Gold - As much as it frustrates her, she does have an unwavering commitment to doing good.
  • Stone Wall - Prism is a defensive fighter, focusing on protection, control and redirection first - but is more than capable of a powerful offense.
  • Hard-Drinking Party Girl - Partying is Prism's vice. If your character spends nights out, they have probably seen or met her.

Allies
Strobe Allies.png

  • Warden - Prism's sidekick and on-again, off-again love interest. Warden exists as a foil to Prism. Whereas she is frivolous and unscrupulous, he is solemn and disciplined. He is more open and direct, while she is sly and deceptive. She secretly adores Warden's steadfast protectiveness, and admires his loyalty and leadership capabilities. He is helping her to become more of a team player, and his sincerity challenges her to be more open with others.
  • The Frontiersmen - Prism dislikes being a permanent fixture of a team and so has not been present for many of the Frontiersmen's adventures; however, she recognizes that she synergizes with certain members and respects the group's ability and will to get things done.

Testimonies
Strobe Testimonies.png

  • "I was informed that calling her Ladyfriend means something different on Earth so I have nicknamed her Shinyfriend, she can certainly handle herself in combat." - Starlancer
  • "Despite her superficial personality and limited mission attendance, Prism has proven to be a highly capable member of the team. Her abilities are incredibly effective and offer more utility to the group rather than just raw power. Let's hope her celebrity status doesn't inadvertently attract any unwanted press, however." - Watchman
