Strobe's face claim is Sienna Miller. She has a relatively deep voice for a woman and speaks with a posh, probably put-on accent; however, she adopts a higher, girlier voice when attempting to butter up or appear sweet. She never leaves the house without a full face of makeup, meticulously styled hair, and a flattering and fashionable outfit (again in the vein of Sienna Miller's style). She has no mental defenses. She is nearly always texting, smoking, looking through her purse - never quite giving her full attention. Her most famous celebrity "conquest" was Ryan Reynolds, which was national tabloid news; she has also been linked to Scoot McNairy, Cillian Murphy, and, controversially, John Stamos.

I don't appreciate my character being defamed because she and I didn't respond positively to your constant harassment, sexual and otherwise. You know who you are - please grow up.

Background

"She has a soul of steel. She has the face of the most beautiful of women, and the mind of the most resolute of men. There are no lengths to which she would not go -- none." (Arthur Conan Doyle, A Scandal in Bohemia)

Jordan Shaw was born on March 25, 1985 in Long Island, NY, and moved shortly after to Scarsdale with her father and sister due to her parents' divorce. With a successful surgeon father, she enjoyed a comfortable upbringing. Jordan attended Stuyvesant High School, participating in theater and tennis, and later attended Smith College. Though she and her father had never been close-knit, they got along peacefully until it was time for Jordan to transition into college. A wannabe artist, she had hoped to go to a Rhode Island art school, while her father encouraged her to study something more practical. Although they had reached an agreement - a double major - their relationship was never fully repaired.

Jordan knew from age 12 that she was a mutant with the ability to manipulate energy. She treated her powers with general indifference and hid them until she was accidentally outed as a mutant in college, shunned by her peers, and inducted into a group of militant mutant students. She dated and eventually got engaged to Julian Stone, or Boreas, the de facto leader of the group, who helped her understand and use her abilities and introduced her to the world of vigilantism. The two split up after graduating college and Jordan took a job as a paralegal for a property law firm; eventually she grew tired of her desk job, packed up and returned to New York.

Beginnings

Out of a job and with an empty resumé, Jordan stayed with some of her mutant friends from college, eventually getting sucked into the vigilante lifestyle they led and taking the name Dancefloor. She took modeling gigs by day to support herself while training to refine her powers by night. While her modeling career never took off, she drew attention as a heroine for her flashy powers, good looks, influential style and prominent charity work. After only a few months in the city, she grew very popular and became a public figure representing the superhero community, showing up to events and talk shows regularly and enjoying her status as a fashion icon and tabloid fodder.

While popular, her socialite lifestyle and apparent airhead personality rendered her a joke as a superhero and she was not taken seriously by most criminals. Serial celebrity flings further reduced her credibility and damaged her popularity and reputation so much that she became disgruntled and went into withdrawal.

During a riot on Roosevelt Island in August 2012, her father was killed in the chaos. Unable to cope with her fall from grace, his death, and her guilt that she might have prevented it, Jordan fled once again to her mother's house in upstate New York, moving to Millennium City, MI at her sister's suggestion shortly after.

Millennium City

Jordan lived with her sister for a few months after moving to Millennium City but could not adjust to life in the suburbs and bought a downtown apartment where she now lives with fellow superhero Mister Fifth. Equipped with a new costume, a new name, and a better grasp on her powers, she has been doing well in Millennium City, recently joining renowned supergroup Eternals, Inc. and trying to re-establish herself as a celebrity and superhero.

Powers

Frickin' Laser Beams - Primary ability is energy manipulation, projection and absorption; with it she can create lasers, concussive beams, constructs, shields, holograms, intense flashes, patterns, and body armor.
Make Me Wanna Shout - Amplifies, nullifies and replicates sound waves, and manipulates them into shockwaves. Theoretically she is powerful enough to generate sonicbooms, but she has less confidence in and control over her sound powers and so uses them pragmatically rather than offensively.
Barrier Warrior - Uses energy shields to protect, contain, levitate, and assault.
Invisibility - Bends light to make herself or others invisible; this takes an enormous amount of concentration on her part, she cannot expend much energy on anything else and can only affect others tactilely.

Energy Absorption - As with her invisibility, this only works tactilely - she can absorb energy she feels coming into direct contact with her body and use it to boost her own abilities. However, she still feels heat, electric shocks, the pain from concussive blasts, etc. - absorption occurs after the fact.

Emotion Control - Through manipulation of light patterns, soundscapes and ambient light, she can exert a degree of emotion and mood control, and uses this to get people to like and feel comfortable around her.
Nigh Invulnerability - Can encase herself in a skin-tight layer of extremely durable hard light.
Healing Factor - Can speed up her own healing factor or others' with channeled energy. However, she is not an especially powerful 'healer' and can't affect internal or deep wounds. She has also learned to seal and cauterize surface wounds with her light control.

Personality

Attention Whore - Confident, good-looking, cosmopolitan, and witty, Jordan attracts attention, knows it, enjoys it, and abuses it.
I Have Boobs, You Must Obey - She is no stranger to using her looks to her advantage and has no problem objectifying herself to achieve her needs.
Rich Bitch - She is wealthy not by her own volition and had an easy, comfortable upbringing, so is sometimes out of touch with how normal people live and often expects others to do her bidding.
Obfuscating Stupidity / Manipulative Bitch - Keeps her conversations light and airy and intentionally gives off the impression that she is superficial; in reality, she is savvy, pragmatic, and elusive, at once transparent and a complete mystery.
Alpha Bitch - Has a massive ego which manifests itself in a constant stream of sarcasm and a delusion that whatever she says and does will go unpunished.
Unscrupulous Hero - Has trouble adhering to strict moral codes. She won't kill or torture, but perhaps enjoys chaos and combat a little too much.
Stubborn Mule - Vehemently independent and will refuse help even when she's fully aware that she needs it.
Dominatrix - She is a fiercely vocal and passionate feminist and has a pathological, maybe unhealthy, need to assert her dominion over men and let them know women could easily rule the male-dominated world of heroism if they wanted to.
Team Mom - Has a soft spot for younger heroes, especially girls, and looks after them as hard as she tries to pretend she's not interested.
Really Gets Around - Self-explanatory.
Jerk With a Heart of Gold - As much as it frustrates her, she does have an unwavering commitment to doing good, and there is a heart deep, deep, deep within her.

Allies

Anarchy - Jordan and Veronica are BBFs (Best Bitch Friends) and could probably achieve world domination if they put down the bottle long enough.
Captain Adamant - Jordan thinks he's gorgeous and that's enough for her to consider him an ally.
Citizen 13 - While they have only interacted in the context of missions, Jordan respects his skill for getting things done, and has a thing for his salt-and-pepper hair.
Divael - They are not exactly chummy, but Jordan knows the real thing when she sees it.
Mister Fifth - MF lives with Jordan. His lack of earthly and human concerns drew her to him initially; she feels she doesn't need to "perform" around him and is perfectly comfortable in his company.

Quirks/RP Notes

Jordan is reasonably athletic and runs every day.

She is an awful cook and despite her best efforts has failed all the cooking classes she has attempted.

She has a cat named Lilly. Lilly is one of the few living beings Jordan will openly show affection toward.

That's not her real hair color. She will never tell you what it is.

She can fly but rarely does so. If I didn't have to get her a travel power to get around in-game, she wouldn't have one.

Testimonies

((feel free to post comments!))

  • "If you want me to be honest with you, I think Strobe's someone you need to be mindful around because she's going to speak hers whether you like it or not. For that? She's got my respect. Despite her presumable liquid nitrogen heart, she's got her noble traits. She's helped me out of a few bad spots, and as far as I'm concerned, it's nice to have a best bitch friend." - Anarchy
