Martial Arts

From a young age, Cole studied basic martial arts. While he was never fond of forms that emphasized punches or grapples, he found an appreciation and love for savate, a style of French kickboxing. To this day, he tends to focus on using kicks to incapacitate his opponents. While he used to have a blade to distract and harry his opponents for sake of appearances, he has dispensed with them in recent months. Instead, he has refined his Kinetic Energy Dampeners to not only reduce, but store and redirect kinetic energy that he projects through punches and kicks.

Gear and Equipment

One of Phantasm's most used articles of tech is his custom-made personal cloaking device - while nothing close to true invisibility, it provides an active camouflage with his surroundings through light refraction. The other equipment he most often uses, if not more than his cloaking device, are the Kinetic Energy Dampeners designed by Dr. Hans Scheffield. These were initially prototypes designed to act as armored hardlight projections, but they were more easily adapted to simply divert force rather than outright stopping it. This worked for the better, since while it meant objects like bullets and shrapnel would penetrate them, they would still be slowed down enough to merely sting or bruise, with the added benefit of almost negating the blunt trauma of much larger objects. Final testing showed that a subject using the KEDs would be able to survive a fall at terminal velocity. Mind you, to "survive" does not mean "getting away completely unscathed," it is nonetheless highly discouraged to do so.

With the combination of his cloaking device and the KEDs, Phantasm is able to maneuver about his surroundings virtually undetected, as the former hides his visual presence exceedingly well and the latter muffles the noise of his footsteps. While he does know his way around a computer, he outsourced a signal jammer to mask his presence from most electronic sensors and devices, making him well-suited for infiltration and reconnaissance.
