Chapter 98 (Remnant 5)

"How did you know who I was? Like instantly?" I asked.

Meena leaned against a pillar, smoking a cigarette. Her eye was half open, dead, and expressionless. Kind of like what you would see from a nihilist.

"I've been following you. Tracking your progress. It didn't take much to see you were a Remnant." She replied.

I got up. "But like... how? Is it because of my powers?"

Meena looked at me, her expression was laced in pain. "No... your face. It was your face."

I chucked. "Well, I do have an interesting face. One of a kind."

Meena shook her head. "You have no idea."

"So... I mean. If you wanna help me get stronger, what did you have in mind?"

Meena breathed out a line of smoke.

"Heads up." She said, as she flicked the cigarette at my face. I instinctively put my hands up, and a massive telekinetic surge blasted the pavement in front of me, creating a chasm.

"What in the hell?!" I shouted.

Meena had already weaved out of the way.

"You can't control your powers. They're all based on impulse. If anything, we should start with your basics."

That night, Meena showed me how to properly cool myself down.

"In a fight, you never lose your center. Always focus on the opponents. If you lose focus, it's over."

"Okay." I said, as I flicked my finger, blasted away a soda can.

"A good fighter isn't about how much destruction they can do. I've killed tons of contracts where they simply tried to overpower me just because I had two guns."

I flicked my finger, and took down another can.

"It's all about precision and focus as well. Just as important. Try again."

I looked at her. "But... I already knocked them all off."

Meena walked up to the cans and put them back on the trunk. "Try again."

I sighed and aimed my finger, summoning another blast of redirected air. Just as I was about to flick my finger, Meena undid her ponytail, letting her hair tumble to her shoulders. My heart skipped a beat, and I accidentally flicked my finger, causing a jolt of force to annihilate a nearby tree.

"Shit!" I muttered.

Meena walked up to me and kicked me in the groin, as I fell to the ground, groaning.

"What did I just tell you?"

"Precision... and focus..." I groaned. "I can't continue. My groin. I think you just destroyed all chances of me having kids."

Meena scowled. "If you can't handle that, you shouldn't call yourself a hero." She said.

I sat down. That hurt.

Meena noticed my expression and her face softened. "I..."

She sighed and sat next to me. "We'll continue next time."

I watched the stars. "Meena."

I turned to her. Despite her dead expression, I could tell she was hiding a ton of freaking hurt. Pain. Emotional pain. Damn empath powers.

"This man that you loved... do I know him?"

Meena didn't answer. "It's complicated. You just remind me of him so much."

I smirked. "Damn. I thought I was special too." Meena lit up another cigarette.

"That shit is gonna give you cancer one day." I noted.

Meena paused, and put it out, throwing it into the trashcan with killer aim.

My eyes went wide. "Well I mean. You could still smoke. I'm not forcing you to-"

"Stop. Thomas." She closed her eyes. "Just stop."

More waves of sadness came from her. Damn.

"I uh. Sorry. If I struck a nerve. Don't worry. I'll keep practicing what you told me."

I stood up and gave her a thumbs up. "I'm going to be the best hero in this city!"

Meena tilted her head, and leaned back. "Hmph."

I turned to the skies. "Still have no idea why you're helping me though. This just seems so sudden. I mean normally I don't go about revealing my identity and stuff."

Meena stood up. "Like I said before. You remind me a lot of the man I loved. Acting on my feelings is definitely against my own code. But..."

Meena stared at a nearby dress shop. She began emanating more sorrow. I hoped she wasn't considering those discounted dresses.

"No matter how much I try to run from him. I can never escape him. Not from my thoughts. Not from the people I meet."

Meena put her hand on blindfold, taking it off. Revealing a golden eye underneath.

"Not even from my own desires."

Chapter 99 (Remnant 3)

"Again." I said.

Tom tried to blast through the flaming shield that I had created with my tendrils. He couldn't penetrate it.

"Dammit man. I can't freaking break it! Let me throw a building at it. Please." Tom pleaded.

I scoffed. "You think a building is going to break this?"

Tom sat down, exhausted. "Dude. I give up. I can't break it."

My tendrils dissipated as I stood over the Remnant. Then I kicked him in the face.

"Ow! Deacon what the hell?!"

"Get up."

"Dude I'm tired."

I kicked him in the ribs as he contorted in pain. "I... DUDE! There's nothing I can do! What am I supposed to do!"

"Get up."

Tom got up, his face sweaty and tired. "You're an asshole you know that. I launched everything I had. That was basically a freaking giant... Sky breaker smash or whatever. And it didn't even break the shield!"

"Why are you limiting your powers to just moving shit?"

"What do you mean."

I turned around, and blasted him with fire. Thomas yelped as he instinctively created a force field, doing everything he could from being burnt up.

"Dude!"

I ignored him, and summoned a tendril, picking up a nearby boulder, and threw it at him.

Thomas instantly held out his hand, and stopped it, crushing it into bits.

"What is your problem?!" He shouted at me.

I walked up to him. "Which one was easier to stop?"

Thomas' anger dissolved. "The... rock. I guess."

I held out my hand, a sputter of Demonfire manifesting. "At some point, the things you throw have limits. But your powers. Your powers don't play by the same principles. Throwing things around, you're limited to the durability of those items. The flames I wield. The strength of your movements. Those are not capped by this world's resources. Those are inherently yours."

Thomas' eyes widened. "I see..."

I closed my fist, and walked away.

"Wait! Where are you going?!" Thomas shouted after me. I stopped.

"You're out of stamina. Go home and rest up."

I went back to Skylar's place. She had arranged some living quarters for Merrow and I. Michael had stayed behind in Corinth to help Kyrael with stuff, from what I had heard. Merrow was probably gone off to Corinth as well. I noticed that Skylar was making coffee from the kitchen.

"What's up Kan-edgy"

"What?" I asked.

"Never watched the anime before?"

"I know my anime." I replied, sitting down. Skylar walked up to me. "Want some coffee." I took it.

"How's the training with Tommy going along?"

"He needs work. Doesn't know how to use his powers properly. If he knew how to control it from day one, he wouldn't be getting so much hate in the press."

Skylar blew on the coffee. "Well, he's a dumbass. To be expected."

I sipped on mine. The taste was bitter, but soothing.

Skylar walked away. "Gonna do some homework. I'm royally screwed for my midterm. Catch you in a bit." She closed the door to her room, leaving me alone to my thoughts.

I propped my feet up as I lay in the mattress on the ground. It was a lot better than sleeping in a straitjacket. Or the floor during my mercenary assistant days working under Meena. But even if I slept on the ground. It was Meena that made it enjoyable.

Deacon... I know you're still in there. But right now. This... this Fury that's taken you over. That's not the man I love.

I made the decision to abandon who I was. Sacrifice her love for me to give her a better life. To bring that good side of her out. But it took her leaving to realize how stupid I really was.

"You have so much potential." I said the same thing to Thomas as Meena had said to me. The one time she spoke gently to me. From within the rage and darkness that had consumed her in her job at Blackwater. I put my head in my hands, reminiscing our times together.

To become stronger, I threw all that away. How could I had taken everything Meena and I had for granted.

"I don't expect you to forgive me..." I muttered, through my tears. "Because I just can't even find a way to forgive myself."

Chapter 100 (Remnant 5)

I was learning so much.

While Fury taught me how to better control my powers, Meena taught me how to become focused, clearing my mind. Felt weird. I didn't bring the existence of either Fury or Meena to the other. For some reason, I always forgot. Or something in me didn't want to.

During my weeks training with Fury, he had taught me how to hone in on my powers.

"Keep concentrating." Fury said.

Beads of sweat formed on my face as I condensed the fast flowing air around my hands together. Closer and closer together, until the hall glowed green. Sparking with electricity and generating massive torrents of wind outwards.

"Ready or not! Here I come Fury!" I shouted.

Fury brought his tendrils together. "Come." He said.

I launched the ball as hard as I could. "Here it comes! I'm naming it... the Furybreaker Buster Ball!"

"You are most definitely not calling it that..." Fury seethed, as the sheer momentum of the spinning air sliced his tendrils in two. Fury's eyes widened as he pivoted on one foot, redirecting the ball into the sky, causing a massive explosion.

We both collapsed, but Fury managed to recover first, getting to his feet.

"Did I do good?" I asked.

Fury grunted and walked away. He was definitely proud.

As for Meena, I had managed to send blasts of air at every target Meena had opened up. My reflexes improving.

Meena fired a shot from her revolver, and I stopped it in the nick of time by looking at it.

"Are you crazy?!" I screamed at her.

Meena shrugged her shoulders. "If you couldn't deflect that, then that's all you were worth. Target practice."

There were occasional times where my training overlapped. In an awkward way. Like when I was shooting cans and accidentally summoned a massive telekinetic hand out of frustration, smashing the cans into the ground.

"How the hell..." Meena muttered.

"Sorry. I was also training for my powers as well. You know... as a side."

Meena looked at me, as green energy spiraled around me, the occasional construct appearing in my aura.

"You've been developing in your powers. This isn't something that you can learn from fighting crime. Are you training with someone?"

My ears went pink. "I mean... you're not the only one who's been helping me develop my powers."

Meena's eyes narrowed as she stepped closer to me.

"Who is this person."

"Uh..."

"Thomas...." Meena tilted her head, taking out her handgun. My eyes went wide. "My brother. I'm learning from my brother."

Meena suddenly dropped the gun. Her voice was low and quiet.

"Which brother."

I began to sweat.

"You remind me a lot of the man I loved."

Fury looked almost exactly like me. Minus the cool hair. And the cool eyes. But... there was no way he could be...

"Thomas, you damn brat." Fury's voice appeared behind me. I spun around. Fury crossed his arms, glaring at me.

"Where the hell have you been?"

"I was... uh..." I glanced behind me. Meena was nowhere to be found. Just a bunch of cans that were busted up.

Fury glanced at the cans. And for a second, his eyes widened. "Cans... are you practicing your precision?"

"Yeah. That's it. You know. Haha. Figured precision is just as important as power. You know?"

Fury's voice was dangerously low. He tilted his head forward, somehow giving him an even more sinister appearance. "You figured huh. You sure you didn't get that from someone?"

I began to sweat even more. "Y...Yes?"

Fury glanced at the mess all around the grassy park. "Didn't think you would be the type to realize that. But yes. Precision is just as important as power. But that doesn't mean you can slack off on your power training. Precision can only get you so far."

Fury glanced at a couple of trees, and slashed them with two bladed tendrils. The trunks flew into the air, and Fury pointed his finger at them, blasting each into halves. And the halves into halves. And the halves of that into halves.

I was in awe. "How... that's insane!"

Fury looked back at me, as he manifested a giant tendril to pick up the mess. He clenched his fist in front of me, and the pieces burnt up immediately, the ashes dissipating into the wind.

"You can't have one or the other. A warrior with power but no precision is just a child playing with fire. A warrior with precision but no power is just fodder in the eyes of an overwhelming power. Learn both. Don't slack off on one or the other. We can skip training today, considering you're already tired out."

Fury turned around, and walked away.

"Uh... see you later, Deek!" I shouted after him.

Fury raised his hand. "Don't miss another session. Or I will kill you."

I heard a woman sigh beside me. I turned around and found Meena standing next to me. She was looking at Fury as he walked away, down the hill and trail. His back turned, and his white hair fluttering with the breeze.

"Umm... so I take it you have history with Fury?" I asked cautiously.

Meena wiped her eye. I could sense waves of emotion coming from her.

"Do you want me to cut training with Fury? I could tell him I just have like really bad diarrhea or something."

Meena cut me off. "No, Thomas. I'm not telling you to stop training with Fury. But..."

She looked at me. "I don't want you to bring up your training with me with him. And I don't want you to mention what you are doing to him, or anything that could hint of me being here. He's already onto us now."

She walked away. I followed her.

"Meena... that man you said that you loved... is he..."

"I don't want to talk about it." Meena said.

"But..."

"I said NO." She growled, taking out her gun and pointing it at my face. I put my hands up in the air, in surprise.

Meena's eyes widened as she stepped back, slowly lowering the gun.

"I'm... I'm sorry. Thomas I just want to be alone."

Meena jumped through tree after tree with incredible agility.

Chapter 101 (Remnant 5)

I probably shouldn't have followed her. But I did it anyway.

"Leave me alone, Deacon." She shouted.

Did she just call me Deacon? "Meena, I just wanted to talk to you."

Meena continued bounding through the trees. If she was human, she most definitely have been olympic level athleticism. No one could be this agile. But I kept up through flying.

"Meena, please. I need you!"

I kept flying, then suddenly hit my head on a tree branch.

"Ouch!" I yelped as I fell to the ground, hitting my head. Everything went blurry, as Meena leapt onto the ground, walking up to me.

I spent the night in front of a campfire. Meena was bandaging my head. She was still in a bad mood. I tried to lighten it.

"Hey... well on the bright side, at least we match!"

Meena managed a slight scoff. "Make it beige, maybe."

She sat across from me, warming her hands.

I picked at my gloves. "Hey..."

"If this is about Deacon, I already told you I don't want to talk about it."

"It's not that. Well... it's kind of like that. Please Meena. Come on."

Meena looked at me.

"Fine. What do you want to talk about."

I leaned forward. "What was he like? What part of him did I remind you of?"

Meena put another stick into the fire. "Your appearance. And... your kindhearted personality."

"Kindhearted?" I snickered. "Lady I think you got me mixed up for the pope! I don't know if we're talking about the same Fury here. But the closest to kindhearted he has done for me was beat me up less than usual."

Meena smirked. "He wasn't always like this."

"Oooh I smell a story!"

Meena smiled, but it was mixed with sadness. "The Deacon I knew... he was kind. Loving and sweet. He loved me, and recognized the good in me, even when I couldn't see it myself. Back in my killing days in the city of Blackwater. He and I. We were surrounded by crime and darkness. Of murder and rape. Of just plain sin. But despite it all... he still was kind. He held on to his morals. If it wasn't for him, I never would have left that life behind."

This didn't sound like the Deacon I knew.

"But..."

Meena's eye began to redden. "But... one day. He and I were abducted. He was forced to do things he didn't want. Tortured. And... I had to watch him abandon who he was. The torture broke him. And he became.... changed. My precious Deacon. The one who gave me a meaning to believe in hope. Brutalized and overtaken by this new person. This Fury that lives in his heart."

I wanted to comfort her, but I didn't know how.

"You don't have to tell me the rest if you don't want to."

Meena wiped her eye. "No. I... When I found out. When I found out the terrible things he had done. He didn't just lose himself." She looked at her hands. "He became me. He became the very thing I swore to leave behind. I swore to leave behind my dark life. And to move to the light that he had created for me. And to see that the darkness had overtaken him, and that... I was the reason-"

Meena's voice broke.

I honestly didn't know what to say. "Meena, I'm sure Deacon wants to see you again."

Meena sobbed. "I know. I know he does. But I don't know how to face him. I don't know. I..."

I put my hand on her knee. "Do you still love him?"

Meena stared at the fire.

"Yes. I do. Very much."

I smiled. "Then you should go talk to him. Even if it doesn't work out. At least it can give you some closure."

Meena laughed. "I'll think about it."

NO. YOU WON'T.

A sinister, dark, and rumbling voice boomed from within the forest. I shot to my feet, glowing green.

"Who's there" I shouted.

The forest boomed. Mini explosions. Over and over again.

Meena whipped out her revolvers. "These aren't explosions... they're footsteps!"

WHY MUST YOU REMNANTS INTERFERE WITH MY PLANS. THE DEATH OF SAUL IS INEXCUSABLE.

"Saul?" Meena asked.

"Shit." I muttered. He mentioned that he was a follower of Mogul. Could this be...

The trees parted, and a huge figure appeared. At least seven feet tall. Pitch darkness. Bulky, and his face, scarred beyond anything I had seen before. Of course his eyes had to be red too. To make it that much better. He smiled sinisterly.

I HAD TRUSTED MY FOLLOWER TO DISPATCH OF YOU, THOMAS. PERHAPS I MUST DO THAT MYSELF.

Meena's eyes widened.

"Thomas, get down!" She shouted, as she pushed me onto the ground. A massive tree flew over my head. He threw it so fast, I didn't even have time to react.

Meena took her revolver and took aim, shooting Mogul straight in the eye, but the bullets disintegrated in his black electrical aura.

YOU ARE THE LOVER. THE WOMAN OF DECEN'S THIRD. PERHAPS YOU WILL PROVIDE ME WITH A MEANS TO ELIMINATE THE FURY.

"Fury will kick your ass!" I shouted back.

"No..." Meena gasped, as she dragged me, running away.

"Fly. Fly out of here!" Meena commanded me. I tried to fly away, but I suddenly couldn't move.

YOU ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE. NOT UNTIL YOU PAY WHAT YOU OWE FOR SAUL'S DEATH.

I turned to Mogul, and clasped my hands together, summoning my Buster Ball.

"Here's your payment! Freak!" I threw it at Mogul, and generated a massive blast of power, leveling the forest. Mogul slid back from the sheer force.

IMPRESSIVE. YOU MAY WELL BE THE FIRST REMNANT WHO HAS BLOWN ME BACK. CONSIDER YOURSELF PRAISEWORTHY.

I fell to my knees. This guy's durability was ridiculous. The Buster Ball was enough to destroy Fury's tendrils. And those things were able to withstand multiple buildings thrown at it. You're telling me this guy could take even more of that?

I put my hands on the ground, and summoned multiple giant arms from the air, smashing them at Mogul. But Mogul simply smiled, and brought his foot back, punching the first fist, shattering it.

"Holy shit." I muttered. I concentrated everything I had into my second arm construct. Making it as durable as I could. Putting in everything I had. The sheer telekinetic reinforcement in the fist made it glow green, as I launched it straight at Mogul, who blocked it with his hand, crushing it with his grip.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"Thomas.. we need to get out of here. Come on." Meena grabbed my wrist and dragged me away, as Mogul's red eyes lit up from the darkness of his aura and the forest. He simply walked up to us. But I knew he was just toying.

THERE IS NO ESCAPE. He said, as he leapt into the air. I stared at the hurtling body as it began to close in on me.

"Thomas!" Meena shouted, as she pushed me to the side. She suddenly disappeared under the black mass, as the shockwave blew me away.

"MEENA!" I screamed. I ran forward dispersing all the dust.

I stared at the scene in horror. Meena screaming in agony as Mogul had landed on her legs. Mogul got to his feet and stepped back as Meena continued crying out in pain. Her legs were definitely broken, but thankfully they weren't squished or anything.

YOUR HALAKITE NATURE PROTECTS YOU, KENNEDY. BE LUCKY THAT IT WAS A MERE BONE FRACTURE. FOR I AM NOT HERE FOR YOUR LIFE TODAY.

Mogul turned to me, and began approaching me.

Meena clenched her teeth. "Run... Thomas!" She seethed, as she took out her handgun and began shooting Mogul in the back. Meena lost all her strength, and went unconscious.

I stood there like an idiot, frozen in fear, as Mogul brought his fist back, but was intercepted by a pair of familiar flaming tendrils.

A figure in a black leather jacket and white hair had intercepted and put distance between Mogul and I.

Prime Aspect of Sin. To lower yourself in attacking a helpless Remnant, and my woman. Do you truly believe yourself a god?

Mogul grimaced.

FURY, THE WRATH OF DECEN. YOU HAVE EMBRACED YOUR DARK HALF. BUT TO THINK YOU POSSESS THE POWER TO DEFEAT ME, IS FOOLISH.

Fury summoned two tendrils that lifted an unconscious Meena and I away from the fight.

I don't intend to. But I know your weakness. So it's just a matter of using it to my advantage.

Mogul grabbed the two tendrils and crushed it in his grip, as Fury leapt back, bringing his hands up, and putting on his mask. His one glowing orange eye exposed, illuminating in the dark, his other eye concealed, just like Meena's. I could see how Meena and him were a couple.

Chapter 102 (Remnant 3)

Meena. I knew it from the cans. From the way he had said that one line. How precision was important.

I glanced back at Meena's unconscious body. Seeing her like that filled me with rage unlike any other.

Despite this, it didn't seem to matter how much rage was in my body. No amount of power I could do could inflict any damage on Mogul, as he simply took my best hitting attacks head on with no damage. I could see why Arman stood no chance against him.

Mogul reached out, and I leaped back, summoning tendril after tendril, smashing against Mogul, who smiled evilly, and grabbing one of them, yanking me to him. He grabbed my face and slammed me into the ground as I coughed out blood.

I couldn't feel the pain, but I could feel my bones breaking. If he kept this up, my body would shut down and go unconscious. I needed to keep him from landing these heavy attacks, otherwise I would die. And so would Thomas and Meena.

BRAVE TALK, FROM THE THIRD. BUT YOU HAVEN'T INFLICTED ANYTHING ON ME JUST YET. WHILE YOU ARE ALREADY BLOODY.

I held my ground, slashing and slicing with everything I had had, but it was useless. He was too durable. And with his overwhelming strength and speed, I could tell he was toying with me.

But I knew this was part of the plan. Because I knew his weakness. And I just had to hold out.

I jumped back, powering up both my hands, and delivering multiple swipes at Mogul.

ANGELBREAKER SLASH: INFERNAL GATLING!

I shouted, sending hundreds of arcs of Demonfire at Mogul, who raised his arms and took the damage. I flew in, having already powered everything up. A diversion.

My tendrils joined together at a spot at his midsection, my eye wide from the power surging through me.

You shall burn, Aspect of Sin. I growled.

DANTE'S INFERNO: PLANETARY DEVASTATION The entire area illuminated with black and orange light, flames charring the trees as everything became blown back.

"Fury!!!" Thomas yelled, as he grabbed onto Meena.

I turned to him.

Run! Get out of he-

I was cut off, as Mogul grabbed my face. INTERESTING. YOU LOVE YOUR COMBOS, THIRD.

Mogul leapt into the air, and smashed my face onto the ground, then threw me through numerous trees as he zipped forward, smashing me into the air, then materializing into the air, and smashing me back onto the ground, creating a shockwave from the impact.

I tried to get to my feet, but my body's bones were broken. And I knew they had sustained too much damage.

Mogul landed on me, and smashed my face onto the ground. Repeatedly, as my blood covered the surroundings and himself.

YOU HAVE BEEN DEFEATED. DEACON CHOW.

I was barely able to breathe. My nose was broken, and blood leaked from the side of my mouth. But I wasn't finished yet.

Infernal Legerdemain I muttered.

The blood that was splattered everywhere blew Mogul away, in a massive explosion. I got to my feet, ignoring my broken bones, and powered up.

For the life of my love. My brother. And my family I muttered. The wrath. The fury. Filling my veins.

Such shall those who has harmed them. I could feel the skin around the left side of my face burning off.

I shall watch them... I took off my mask, revealing my skeletonized left side of my face. My eyes glowing a brighter orange. Mogul got to his feet and grinned.

BURN. I roared, as I grabbed Mogul with both of my upgraded tendrils, and threw him into the air as hard as I could.

I stomped on the ground, letting everything loose. All my tendrils blasting at him with everything I had, but Mogul simply used both hands and caught them all.

This was it. This was the extent of my powers. Everything else that happens from this point. Will be up to luck whether or not his weakness appears.

Mogul smiled.

I COMMEND YOUR POWER, FURY. NO OTHER REMNANT HAS DONE THIS WELL IN A FIGHT AGAINST ME. NOT EVEN YOUR PROGENITOR HELD HIS OWN SO BEAUTIFULLY. THE ONLY PERSON WHO HELD NEARLY AS LONG WAS PERHAPS THE FIRSTBORN. BUT HIS RELIANCE ON HIS REGENERATION DETRACTED FROM THE MERIT OF HIS BOUT

Mogul brought his fist back, and punched my tendrils. The sheer force of the strike neutralizing everything as the shockwave smashed me so hard that I exited my transformation and fell on my back.

Mogul landed in front of me. Preparing one final strike.

A SHAME. YOU COULD HAVE BEEN MY GREATEST SOLDIER, FURY. BUT YOU CHOSE TO SIDE WITH YOUR PATHETIC BRETHREN. AND THE GUARDIAN OF WAR.

I managed one last smile.

"I am... a gambler after all.." I coughed.

Mogul brought his fist back, when suddenly he doubled over.

TCH. MY POWERS. YOU KNEW, DIDN'T YOU. OF MY LIMITS IN THIS REALM.

"Yes."

Mogul smiled. A TRUE WARRIOR INDEED. PERHAPS THE MOST WORTHY TO INHERIT DECEN'S NAME. BUT KNOW THIS. WHEN THE TIME COMES TO BATTLE ME AGAIN. I SHALL KILL YOU FIRST.

Mogul walked back and dissipated into black mist and lightning. I coughed and gasped as I felt my regeneration slowly mending my wounds. I had a weaker regeneration than Arman and Lucius. In terms of potential, Arman had the greatest, and Lucius had formidable healing when unconscious. Mine was passive like Arman's, but at a greatly reduced rate.

I had to ensure my body wasn't taking damage for it to out heal it.

I waited a few minutes as I heard Thomas float next to me.

"Fury... dude." He knelt in front of me, his eyes full of concern.

"My... mask." I muttered. He held out his hand, the mask flying into it, and handed it to me. I took it and put it in my leather jacket pocket. I put my hand on Meena's face, stroking her hair.

"So... I guess you kinda figured out I was training with Meena, huh." Thomas asked sheepishly. I glared at him, but the glare melted.

"Let's just bring her back to Skylar's place. She needs medical attention."

Chapter 103 (Remnant 3)

"She probably isn't going to be walking for a while." Skylar said, as she approached me. I was leaning on the doorframe to Meena's room. She was lying on the bed.

I was shrouded in darkness, as usual, and Skylar smirked. "She's pretty. Not gonna lie. You're one lucky guy."

I stared at the ground. "Mogul attacking us is bad news. We may need to relocate. I'm sorry for any trouble we have caused your city."

Skylar shrugged. "Meh. I don't give a shit."

Suddenly Meena awoke, grabbing Thomas.

"Whoa there! Meena it's me!" Thomas said, as he grabbed her shoulders, keeping Meena from freaking out.

Skylar noticed my shocked expression. "I'll leave you two alone."

She walked off. "Skylar." I said. Skye stopped.

"Sup?"

"Thank you. For helping her."

Skylar chuckled. "Well, I was a medical student before I dropped out. I know my shit. Don't judge an artsie by her looks!"

Thomas held her hand. "You're safe now."

Meena stared at him. "Where... where are we?"

"In Skylar's house. My base of operations, kinda. Well. Actually Skylar owns the place and pays the rent. We kinda just took the place over. She isn't too happy about that, but it's cool."

Meena sighed, and looked at her legs which were in casts.

"I won't be able to walk for a long ass time, won't I."

"Well, you can still teach me stuff. We got plenty of cans." Thomas got up and took a bunch of cans from the recycling bin, putting them on the table.

"Look, we got 7up. We got Coca Cola. We got Fanta. Take your pick!"

I rolled my eyes, and Meena smiled.

Thomas put the blanket around Meena. "I'm gonna go now. But... there's someone I want you to see. I think you know who I'm talking about."

Meena's face turned guarded and concerned. "No. Thomas, wait."

Thomas cut her off. "Meena, this is for your own good." He stood up and walked to me, beckoning me to go in.

"It's all yours."

I continued leaning on the doorframe, my arms crossed, and my face shrouded in shadows. The only thing visible was my snow white hair.

I looked at Meena as she stared at me, tears forming around her eye.

"You shouldn't cry." I said. "Ruins your tough girl vibe." I pushed myself off the doorframe and walked up to her.

Meena breathed in sharply, trying to control herself, but she was sobbing. Tears trickling down her one eye.

I took out a nearby tissue and wiped her face. She didn't push my hand away this time.

"You're as beautiful as ever. Should have bought some WD40 for that eye though." I joked.

Meena let out a weak laugh. "Why did you come back? Why did you look for me, after everything I said?"

I wiped the tears from her face. "Because I wanted to come home."

Meena was silent, her one eye regarding me.

"Do you think you're home?"

I looked away. "I don't know. But all I know is I'm sorry."

I put my hand on hers.

"Kallas broke me in ways I didn't think possible. It made me think what I did was right. That all the killing, all the serving. Everything I did was to benefit you. You always hinted that you wanted a life outside of the killing. All the destruction, crime, and pain. So I thought if I could shoulder it all... you could finally get that dream."

Meena put her hand on my face and ran her hand through my hair.

"I forgive you, Deacon." She whispered, putting her hand on my face.

Tears streamed down my face.

"I wish I could tell you the old Deacon is back, but I would just be lying to you. I am not the same man you fell in love with. And I don't intend to return."

Meena smiled. "It's okay. I think you look cuter like this."

I managed a slight laugh. "So you decided to train my brother, huh."

"Someone had to do it. He was such an amateur. Reminded me of another weak and useless idiot I know." Meena ran her hand through my hair.

"A black haired morally inclined, innocent, and stupid idiot."

I leaned in and kissed her, and she didn't pull away.

"Let's do our best, and look after Thomas. Together."

Meena shifted in her bed. "Together."
