"Without my powers, I'm essentially an average college guy, awkward, unathletic, and not fit for the real world."

Mavus Shaw is the protagonist of The Adventures of Mavus, and The Adventures of Mavus Part II. Mavus is a metahuman originating from Jason's Universe and was a classmate to both Jason and Junon during their college years. Mavus applies to the Inquisition and offers his services to Kyrael Prima and Team Darkstar some time after Blackflame leaves the team. He goes by the codename Maven.

One of Maven's robotic scouts pick up a job posting from Kyrael that was sent to all of Corinth, recruiting people to join their cause against the New Militia. Maven sends a bipedal scout unit to The Fortress, along with several other units containing some of his tech to showcase his services.

Maven is an extremely powerful technomancer. Most of his robots and "inventions" are created by extracting resources from his environment and repurposing them to form extremely complex and powerful alloys, these parts are subconsciously assembled within seconds, creating a vast array of mechanical weapons, robots, and structures. Maven fuels his creations and weapons with his own metahuman energy reserves, which is gargantuan, making him one of the most powerful and dangerous metahumans. Because of this, Mavus Shaw is classified as a Tier Zero Metahuman according to the Metahuman Tier System, making him one of the rarest, and most powerful metahumans to exists in society.

Appearance

Mavus is described to have an average build, with short black hair, brown eyes and is of asian descent. He often wears an open coloured dress shirt, white t-shirt, and black dress pants, and wears a pair of eyeglasses. Later in the story, Mavus receives an open black blazer jacket with minimal arcane lines down the side and nanotech like weaving near the collar, which was a gift from Junon during their first date. Mavus wears this jacket instead of his dress shirt in the manner of an open blazer, giving him a business casual appearance.

Due to being mostly a technology-type, his mech units undergo frequent revision changes. However, the mech unit that he typically uploads into and commands other units from (denoted Main) (along with his other inventions) is usually black and grey in colour with green lighting. Main consists of three main modes.

Personality

Maven is described to be lighthearted, frequently cracking jokes and commenting on the state of the situation with a comedic tone, but can easily give into his emotions and lose his temper. Maven was initially very petty, fighting and getting mad over the simplest of things. An example of this was when he battled Agent Sharon Lipset and her Government Officials because she brought him a month's supply of macaroni for a drop. Due to his immense power, Maven is also described to be condescending to people of a lower tier, and has repeatedly overestimated his abilities. However, over time, after meeting new people and helping them, Maven had learned to become more selfless, and to an extent, more heroic. Training alongside the people of the Inquisition and Darkstar has also allowed Maven to understand the limits to his abilities, and learn to control as well as hold back his power more effectively.

Maven enjoys listening to various genres of music and watching comedic videos. His hobbies include coding and learning essential engineering skills, despite being able to create virtually any machine he wants with his powers, Maven wishes to be able to build machines with his own knowledge as well.

Maven is in love with his old college classmate Junon Gareth, dreaming about her, as well as going out of his way to get on her good side in an attempt to impress her. Maven outwardly accepts these feelings without shame, but after consistently keeping it a secret from her, who is unaware of his feelings, Maven has begun to find it difficult to express these feelings properly.

Maven's feelings for Junon also cause him to be jealous or alarmed whenever she is with someone else that may pose a threat to her datability. These feelings have also caused him to develop rather selfish traits, such as prioritizing her above all others during missions. When the Inquisition was invaded by The New Militia, the first thing Maven did was check up on Junon, rather than assisting his comrades.

When Junon gave him a jacket for a gift, Maven put the jacket on, causing Junon to become momentarily traumatized due to how similar his outfit was to Blackflame's back when he was still in Darkstar. Maven immediately tried to take it off, thinking he had hurt her. Junon tells Maven that he should keep it on, as she liked his look, and that it inspired hope in her. Maven has worn this jacket ever since, a testament to his faith and loyalty to make her happy.

Powers

Master Technomancer: Maven's primary metahuman ability is his ability to create and manipulate machines from raw materials. Maven describes the machines as an "extension to self", and is able to interact with them through a psychic link. When creating his own machines, the only limit is his imagination. Maven is able to control multiple machines simultaneously, which was the case when he singlehandedly controlled a squad of robotic mech soldiers to drive off Calliope's forces that had tried to forcefully recruit him into the New Militia. When not being controlled, these machines are able to act autonomously. Maven is able to use this powerful to an extremely skilled level, as he was able to remotely assemble a gigantic cannon in mere seconds, that was capable of firing a massive beam of nuclear energy that decimated hundreds of soul beasts that had tried to attack one of his extraction units. Maven is also capable of fixing, controlling, manipulating and restoring mechanical units that are not natively his. An example is this was when he restored a barely operational Adam Blair from the brink of death.

Master Telekinetic: Maven's machines are made from resources, and these resources are often obtained by extracting raw materials from the environment. Maven's telekinetic abilities were so powerful, that he was able to modify the molecular structure of these materials to form complex alloys. These alloys make up the majority of his machines.

Upload: Maven is able to "upload" his consciousness or his body into his machines, whether be it one, or an entire platoon. He is able to control an army or his machines in a manner that he describes "similar to a video game". Micromanaging his machines becomes second nature, as a command is simply a matter of willing it to happen. Maven typically uploads a majority of his being into Main, and distributes the rest of his consciousness on a platoon of the robots that he wants to concentrate on. Upload extends a large range, and he will still be able to control his machines if they venture to other dimensions. However, Maven will be unable to use his other powers there, meaning if his machines are destroyed, Maven will not be able to access them, and must send more units there rather than building more units from that dimension directly. If Maven uploads his body, he will be able to re-manifest it elsewhere, but the usage of this power is costly. If Maven uploads his consciousness, there will be no stamina cost, but at the expense of leaving his subconscious body completely out in the open.

Robots and Creations

Maven fights through the use of his mechanical constructs, which vary in size and variety, depending on the scale of his attacks, as well as how much destruction goes into the fight.

Scouting Units

Scout Drones: The scout drones Maven creates are small elliptical robots which support thrust and levitate with electromagnetic waves. Each Scout Drone possesses multiple cameras for 360 degree vision, and numerous sensors. These robots are very simple and the fastest for Maven to build, as he doesn't see a point in adding weapons to a scouting unit.

Scout Bots: Maven will occasionally send bipedal scout bots to intel missions. These bots have minimal armouring and are somewhat skinny, as they only have enough limbs to carry out human functions. However, the bots possess ridges for which additional modules can be attached for them to enter Assault Mode, should the need arise. These scout bots also possess numerous sensors for collecting data. These bots are either transported by drone or rocket boots.

Transport Units

Aerial Bots: These mechs can either be from repurposing other bots or built from scratch. Fully aerial mechs prioritize speed over damage, and thus possess very streamlined bodies, with large powerful propulsors.

Tractor Mechs: Tractor mechs use tractor beams to transport goods or people. These mechs are either mobile, moving through propulsors, or stationary, as pods.

Defensive/Containment Units

Golem Bots: Maven creates a bot with heavy armouring, equipped with multiple layers of strong alloy that are cladded to protect from explosions, heat, and gunfire. These mechs also contain an inertial dampening field to reduce incoming damage. These bots are extremely large, around the size of a garbage truck, and thus are not very mobile.

Containment Pillars: Maven creates pillars of varying size, from as tall as a fire hydrant to a tall building. These pillars arrange in a closed shape and route Maven's energy into the form of a force field. The nature of the energy based walls make them immune to melee damage and most elemental damage. Maven usually uses these pillars to contain the enemy or protect his allies.

Energy Draining Units: Maven creates these units similar to his containment pillars, but their purpose is to drain the opponents's power. This power is stored in these units and used to fuel his attacks even further. More units summoned will allow a greater drain and will distribute the energy among more units, preventing overloading.

Assault Units

Mech Sentries: Maven's "sad attempt to impersonate Jason's Shadow Specters", as he describes it. Maven's mech sentries are surprisingly powerful, each equipped with repulser beams on their hands and chest. Mounted miniguns on the shoulders, micro munition missiles at the back, as well as a powerful shoulder launcher capable of levelling a building. These sentries are also equipped with armouring from powerful alloys to protect them from damage, as well as powered by Maven's metahuman energy, giving them superhuman strength. Propulsors on the hands, feet, and back allow incredible speed. The weapons systems of these units are vast, and a single sentry was capable of fending off a squad of mages. If Mavus concentrates more of his resources to these units, they will also equip a railgun.

Main Sentry: Maven's primary mech that he uploads into to command his units, or walks around in. Maven usually uploads into this main sentry, and prioritizes power distribution into this unit, giving it significantly more firepower than his other mech sentries. Main possesses more armour, and stronger propulsors, and a full power integrated railgun which can be activated by transforming his arm. Maven typically repurposes Main by giving it additional features, like propulsors to certain limbs to deliver devastating melee strikes, or cladding his arms with more weaponry to greatly increase its firepower. An example of this was when he combined his energy draining pods into his shoulders, and created a massive Armada cannon to defeat the likes of a corrupted Blackflame. Main is also able to fire off pods from his chest or shoulder compartments that repurpose into his other creations, including his sentries, or tractor beams, or pillars.

Mounted Turrets: Maven either converts his mechs into mounted turrets, or builds them from scratch. Each turret has significantly more firepower but at the cost of being immobile. Each current possesses the same weapons as the sentries.

Mobile Turrets: Maven is able to repurpose his mechs or his mounted turrets into their mobile states, although not as mobile as his sentries, they are still able to move through the air, while retaining significant firepower.

Demolition Units

These units are classified by Mavus as his most powerful arsenal, and only used as a last resort due to utilizing all of his metahuman energy into these attacks. The usage of these weapons drain him immensely, and if not distributed properly, will destroy his mechanical body or the constructs he is commanding.

Armada Cannons: Mavus creates several towering cannons, which are mounted to the ground. The size of these cannons can range from a tower to a skyscraper, depending on how powerful Mavus wants the cannon to be. These cannons fire a huge beam of green energy. At full power, the Armada Cannon is at the size of a skyscraper, and will split into three barrels, known as the Armada Cannon Array, merging together to deliver a destructive blast stronger than a nuclear bomb. A full power blast is estimated to level an entire continent, according to government archives. Armada Cannons, though destructive, take a while to charge or calibrate. The more precise the attack (in terms of damage), the longer it will take to calibrate and prepare, and the more destructive the beam, the more time it will take to charge.

Planet Buster Beam: Mavus' ultimate attack, which giving him his rank as a Tier Zero Metahuman. A PBB, as per its name, is capable of destroying an entire planet due to its destructive power. The planet buster beam concentrates all of Mavus' energy into a single blast. Using the PBB through one weapon is typically a bad idea, as shown when Mavus nearly disintegrated firing the PBB from Main's mini PBB cannon. This is typically used through multiple towering cannons, at least 12 in number, to fully disperse the energy among his constructs and safely deliver the blast. However, building these units takes time and resources. The PBB can be delivered through different means, an example of this was when Mavus delivered the PBB through Main in a makeshift integrated Armada Cannon.

Weaknesses

Despite being an extremely powerful metahuman with seemingly incomprehensible powers, Maven's abilities are offset by a few major weaknesses.

1) Maven cannot move when using Upload consciousness or any of his technomancer abilities. When he is using his powers, he is essentially in his subconscious, meaning the simplest solution to defeating Maven is to locate his real body and eliminate that. However, Maven has since developed technology to protect his body, which he can move around with one of his mech's. If Maven uses Upload body, he won't need to worry about his real body. However, using this various of upload will drain his stamina.

2) Using his powers is costly, especially Upload Body, as a result, Maven typically sleeps for around 15-18 hours a day.

3) Maven is not very strategic, relying on simply overwhelming his opponents with sheer firepower or numbers.

4) All of Maven's machines run on a power source, which he supplies with his metahuman powers. As a result, the more distributed his machines, the less powerful they become. To achieve maximum firepower and effectiveness, this means that Maven must sacrifice all of his machines and channel it into one robot.

5) If Maven uploads his body into a machine, and the machine is destroyed, Maven will die.
