Manotaur is the heroic identity of Graham Talos, a Minotaur from Kentucky. Referred to as the "Second Coming of the Bull of Minos", Manotaur fights to keep Millennium City safe, while struggling with his own monstrous nature. While he mainly uses gadgets and weapons in his pursuit of justice, his very being draws mystical attention, causing him no end of headaches. Outside of heroics work, Manotaur has multiple careers, though he is mainly known for his musical work.

Character Background

The Story So Far

The Minotaur. A dread creature from Greek mythology, half-man, half-bull. The very name conjures up images of labyrinths, helpless maiden sacrifices and mighty heroes. By all accounts, a monster. Who, then, thought it was a good idea to make another one?

Graham was born in the same manner as the mythical Minotaur; the result of a union between woman and bull, with a bit of divine intervention to ensure he was conceived and survived his birth. Growing up was something of an ordeal for him. His family made their home in rural Kentucky, and Graham became the subject of much suspicion, if not outright fear, because of his bovine heritage. Despite the misgivings of others, however, Graham was determined to fit in with his peers and prove that he was just like them.

This endeavor was almost doomed to fail. When he was but a boy, an opportunistic owner of a circus tried to abduct him and force him into his show as a freak. Graham escaped, but the experience left him with a lifelong fear of circuses, clowns and everything that went with them.

Graham eventually returned to his normal life, eventually graduating from high school and going on to study archaeology at college. This, however, was the moment his life would change.

On his eighteenth birthday, the Greek pantheon became aware of his existence, and sought his demise. They began to send their agents after him, and not simply their mortal ones, either. Harpies, Cyclopses, even Hekatonchieres came after Graham, all intent on taking his head back to their masters in Olympus. Graham fought them off as best he could, but they just kept coming. Then, when he least expected it, he was abducted by several strangers and spirited away to Greece.

He awoke in a strange temple, an enormous bull idol staring down at him. Long had the temple custodians awaited the second coming of the Bull of Minos, and they were determined to keep him alive. In order to protect him from the machinations of the Dodecatheon, Graham was exposed to the Eternal Flame, a small portion of the fire that Prometheus stole and gave to mortals. Infused with the tiniest embers of this legendary fire, Graham was granted magical protection that would keep him hidden from the Greek gods.

Graham returned to America a year later, but did not return to Kentucky. Instead, he travelled to Millennium City, where he began to forge a new life for himself. He lived peacefully for a couple of years, but as crime rose in town and villains made themselves known, he found he could no longer stand by while his neighbours suffered. Donning a costume of his own design and constructing weapons, Graham ventured out to become a hero, the papers dubbing him "Manotaur".

Personality

Calm, collected and pleasant, Manotaur's a nice guy, despite his monstrous appearance. He has a deep appreciation for history and the arts. Manotaur's an optimist, always looking for the bright side of things. He believes in the idea of the Renaissance Man; one who has multiple skills to employ, so he's always looking to learn something new, even if it doesn't appear to be useful.

Behind the pleasant smiles, however, there lurks a dark foreboding. Manotaur is a monster. It's in his very blood, and he worries that, one day, his more savage side will win and he'll become more like the legendary Minotaur. His anger, while quite slow to rise, is terrible to behold.

Powers, Skills, and Attributes

Powers

Enhanced Physical Attributes - Manotaur's strength, stamina and durability are all much higher than that of a human. Put simply, he can run for longer, hit harder and take more of a beating.

Limited Pyrokinesis - Due to the influence of the Eternal Flame, Manotaur carries an ember of it inside his body. This protects him from many mystical threats to his well-being, but also bestows upon him a very limited pyrokinetic ability. So far, the only thing he can do with it is belch a small gout of fire. Time will tell whether this power develops.

Reduced Aging - This one he's only just discovered. Despite being a few years older, he looks as fresh-faced as he did when he first went to college. Whether this is the influence of the Eternal Flame or just a perk of Minotaur physiology, he doesn't know.

Skills

Engineering - Manotaur's main skill is his inventive capabilities. He's able to understand the inner workings of most machines, provided that they aren't too advanced or otherworldly for his experience.

Gunplay - Manotaur's an excellent shot; the end result of years of practice and training at his parents' house. He can effectively use almost any kind of firearm, though he prefers handguns.

Music - A practicing musician since he was in high school, Manotaur has since turned semi-professional with his music. He only plays one instrument - the tuba - but he can do so at a professional level.

Punnery - If there's anyone who understands the subtleties and effectiveness of a good cow pun, it's Manotaur, and that's no bull. When faced with a pun challenge, he'll raise the steaks, so steer clear.

Gear and Equipment

Gear

Laser Blaster Pistols - Two pistols of Manotaur's own invention. Powered by microfusion generators, the blasters fire a laser pulse capable of melting through most materials.

Battleaxe - Sharpened to a point, this is Manotaur's primary melee weapon. He carries it to honor his mythic heritage and because it's a lot of fun to hack and slash with.

Armor - Manotaur's first attempt at designing body armor, his suit strikes a balance between function and techno-barbarian aesthetic. Made from a specially-designed alloy, it provides him with protection while remaining light and easy to move around in.

Manotaur patrolling Millennium City atop the Red Star.

Red Star - Manotaur's personal hoverbike. A fairly simple, open-topped affair, the Red Star's top speed is 180mph, though this puts considerable strain on its other systems. It is armed with a pair of laser blasters.

General Perception

Manotaur is looked at with both wonder and suspicion. He has no way to hide his true nature, which makes engaging in mundane activities quite a frustrating affair, doubly so since his identity is public knowledge. Still, he commands a small degree of respect from the public for his work in both his guises.
