History
Magic Mole was once a common mole helping her family dig tunnels in a suburban backyard. However, this particular mole happened to be ever so slightly more magical than her kin. All animals are sensitive to nature magic, but this mole was attuned enough to make her susceptible to the influence of an enigmatic artifact near her tunnels.
The artifact was an heirloom passed through the Janning family for generations. Iris Janning, known to the neighborhood kids as Old Lady Janning, had long stored it in her basement. She didn't know its name, or its properties, only that it was something her superstitious father kept around for good luck.
The artifact was a mindguard, one of many stones enchanted by a sorcerer hundreds of years before. Its purpose was to seal the sorcerer's talent and knowledge within, and then slowly leak it out in the form of natural protection magic. Those exposed to it for a long period of time would be guarded against evil magic, as well as having their talents enhanced. Iris Janning never knew, and still doesn't know, she'd been enchanted by the keepsake in her basement.
The Mole's Mutation
The varmints in her backyard, not yet exterminated because Iris didn't have the heart to do anything to them, were happily digging away one day when they happened to notice a change in one of their own. She was growing big, much bigger than any of her siblings, almost too big to fit in their tunnels anymore. And then, there was a full moon. Full moons, being particularly magical nights, made the mindguard resonate stronger. Intrigued by the energy being seeped through the ground, the biggest mole began to dig downward to investigate it.
The mole dug all the way to Iris Janning's foundation. Finding she couldn't dig through the concrete, she simply curled up and made herself comfortable for the night. In the morning, she'd grown so large she had to burst out of her little tunnel, and found herself comprehending and thinking about the world in a way she never had before. Frightened by the overnight mutation, she left her family to try to learn about what was going on. Over time, observing humans, she began to learn language and abstract thought.
Friendship with Animalia
Reports of a mutant mole stalking the streets in Vibora Bay had the populace intrigued. Cryptozoologists and bored journalists began documenting her travels, and she was nearly captured by a group of nuclear researchers, but the manimal wizard Animalia got to her first. Animalia took the mole under her wing and taught her to exist as a superevolved animal in the human world.
After a couple months, Animalia tried to recruit the magic mole to her group of superpowered manimals, the Animals Superior. However, the group was directly opposed to humans and their treatment of superpowered animal people, and the mole didn't like the idea of antagonizing humans. Instead she embarked on her own as Magic Mole, determined to ally with the humans and work with them to create a better world for humankind and molekind alike.
Personality
Magic Mole is timid and peaceful. A pacifist until threatened with death, she prefers to run from danger or hide until it goes away. Her magic abilities are raw and untrained, and react to her instincts and emotions, which can sometimes result in volatile bursts of energy.
She has a deep love for her mole kin and for any rodents that resemble her kin. As she still mostly dines on worms and grubs, she isn't super popular at picnics, but does her best to fit in with humans without raising much alarm or making a fuss. Friendships found among humanoid superheroes are vitally important to her, as superheroes are generally more accepting of odd creatures than laymen.

Magic Mole still occasionally visits Old Lady Janning's backyard to check on her family. While they recognize her and accept her hanging around, they don't understand her new way of life, so she doesn't spend a lot of time there.

The Exterminator
The Exterminator is wanted by several Vibora Bay homeowners and the police for animal cruelty and misuse of pesticide, poisons, and traps. An overzealous pest exterminator with less-than-average intelligence, he thinks Magic Mole is just an evil mole intent on making his life miserable. He wasn't even hired to kill her, he just thinks he's supposed to.

Animalia
Animalia is the leader of the Animals Superior, a superpowered manimal, hybrid, and sapient animal group who battle against humans for manimal rights. Considered terrorists in some countries, they take hostages, hold kidnap victims ransom, and attack animal testing facilities with weapons threats and magic cataclysms. Animalia wields primal magic and dabbles in mind control.

- Magic Mole isn't keen on combat and is usually only utilized by the Order of Hope to aid in subterranean infiltration.
