A few hours earlier...

Location: Summerstone Mansion

Sai’edra landed outside the Summerstone Mansion, dulling the energy that enveloped her in a bright, almost blinding blue sheathe as she walked forwards. She looked towards the steps and then looked behind her, turning back to the steps and pausing as Psion had appeared, his cape billowing behind him. His sharp blue eyes were trained on her as she made her way over, his expression morphing from serious to somewhat mischievous as she came closer. He unfolded his arms and lifted his chin a fraction as she stopped in front of him.

“Hello, Psion…everything okay?” she asked, confused at his expression.

His response made her press her palm into her face and sigh deeply as she shook her head.

“Sup! You’re Joule, right? Hey, sweet moves back there, thanks for the save! Hey listen! I-I just wanted to know…you know…if-if you…if you’re free sometime we could go catch a movie or something? That is if you want to go with me or or…or if you’ve got plans or someone or something like that yeah…I love you…I-I mean not you, not to say you can’t be loved or anything cause you totally can I mean-” he mocked.

She looked up and rolled her eyes, narrowing them as she spoke.

“Two words: Shut. Up.” she growled

Psion’s face broke into a grin, assuming his normal voice as opposed to continuing his imitation of the painfully awkward pubescent hero who had approached her earlier.

“I think I’ll be volunteering to monitor the Spybot feeds more often if that is part of what they can capture.” he grinned.

Sai’edra shook her head and moved past him, attempting to escape the feeling of second hand embarrassment she had felt for the hero earlier. Psion caught up with her and continued speaking as they entered the mansion, both headed for the kitchen.

“I only switched to that feed when he was starting to speak to you. Tell me, what led up to that marvellous interaction?” drawled Psion.

“A Mega Destroid attacked the MCPD building in Westside, near Kodiak. A few heroes were on the scene along with Kodiak and one of them was about to be crushed, I was flying from Vibora and flew over Westside. I managed to save him and then I helped out.” Joule explained.

“So who was he and what exactly was his ability? Superhuman awkwardness? Even I felt a little embarrassed for him.” Psion sneered

“No idea, I think he called himself ‘Invinciboy’ or something like that…I wasn’t really paying attention to him, I was more concerned with the Mega Destroid attacking.” shrugged Joule.

Joule pushed through the blue silver French doors and rested against the nearest counter, folding her arms as she continued.

“So…is there any reason you called me away from patrol in Vibora Bay?” she asked.

Psion’s face changed from a light expression to one of seriousness as he responded.

“The High Consul have summoned you, Mentella and I. They want information on the events surrounding Elyisaus and The Psychic Coven.”

Joule’s eyes widened and she stood up, suddenly feeling as if she had been hit by something.

“What?? When did we receive the summons? When do we leave? Will I have time to inform my team mates?” she asked frantically.

Psion held up a hand, quieting her as he retrieved a small device from his belt; he activated it and a small rectangular projection shone forth. He looked down at the projection and spoke.

“We received the summons about five hours ago. We have arranged to leave tomorrow the twentieth of S’t-ahem, May at three thirty five ante meridiem. You have nine hours from now to prepare your written statement, which must be sent ahead of your scheduled arrival.” he read.

“I need to speak to Delta, let them know what is going on and alert them to my absence.” Joule frowned.

Psion looked as if he was about to argue with her but she raised her hands and shook her head.

“I don’t need you to tell me what’s more important, I will get that statement done in time. But I need to alert someone in Delta to my absence, this isn’t exactly the best of times to receive a summons from The High Consul.” Joule stated.

“How do you mean?” he asked.

“Cassandra’s not been combat ready since we rescued her, Spectrum’s not been around much and Variant’s left to deal with something important elsewhere, so he’s not around at the moment either. Now I’m not going to be active for a while…I just hope Variant isn’t kept busy for too long, the groups dealing with a few things right now. Anyway enough on that…I’ll be back within the hour.” Joule explained.

Psion nodded and followed her to the door, hovering as Sai’edra also lifted herself into the air.

“Make sure you are back within the hour, Mentella needs to see you. I think she may have to restore your memories of…previous events, your statement is perhaps the most important so everything needs to be accurate.” Psion said.

Joule nodded and left for Millennium City, leaving a fading trail of energy behind her in the sky.

Location: Renaissance Centre

As soon as she was in the city’s airspace, Joule reactivated her com-link. She hovered over the Renaissance Centre, looking down she saw Juryrig and Dr. Silverback walking along; they looked up and waved at her and she smiled in response. The pair continued walking and Joule looked around as she spoke into the com-link.

“Hello? Anyone around?” she asked.

After a few minutes a response came. It was Sarge.

“Sarge, here…anything wrong?” he asked.

“Hi Chris, I just need to talk to you in person, that’s all.”

“Alright. I’m around, near Mercy Hospital.” he replied

Joule headed towards the hospital, soon making out a figure in the distance; the only one not dressed in clinical green gear and rushing around outside. She called out to him and he turned in her direction, quickly pulling his mask back on. Joule frowned slightly at his reaction to her sudden arrival but shrugged it off, figuring it might have something to do with the intensity of her energy. Knowing that time was not on her side, she landed and jogged to where he was standing.

“Sai’edra, nice to see you, it’s been a little while since we last spoke.” he remarked.

“Good to see you too Chris, I know, it has been a while…but well, there’s something you need to know…” she started.

Sarge tilted his head slightly, as she hesitated.

“I know this comes at short notice but I’m due to leave for my home world, Xen. Tomorrow.” she stated.

Sarge took a moment to consider what Joule had just said and then nodded slowly, following with the only logical question after hearing the news.

“Alright, for how long?” he asked.

“Well…” started Joule.

Now...

Location: Sai'edra's Room, Summerstone Mansion

Sai’edra sighed as she read the lengthy document she had just finished writing, making sure the information relayed all that she remembered from her ordeal with Elyisaus and The Psychic Coven. She took a break from reliving everything and turned away from the screen, hoping to find something else to occupy her attention. Sai’edra looked to her desk and saw her mother’s necklace, The Eli’dahon Diamond half dipped in the bright moonlight, which shone through the small gap in her curtains. She watched the diamond’s uniquely blue colour shift in the moonlight and she brought her hand to her neck where it usually rested.

Sai’edra thought back to Mentella’s incredibly serious expression upon restoring her memories.

“Promise me you will not allow yourself to become attached to the memories. Doing so is incredibly dangerous, not only for yourself but for everyone around you.” urged Mentella.

“I understand, I’ll…I’ll write my statement then send it to you as soon as I am done.” nodded Sai’edra.

Despite knowing that becoming emotionally connected to the memories was a highly dangerous course to take, both for her and others, Sai’edra closed her eyes and started to relive the fear and pain from those memories. Something was fuelling her desire to understand and embrace, on a more personal level, what had happened. Using her meditation technique, Sai’edra closed her eyes and allowed herself, to unpack the memories that Mentella had recently restored and hesitantly embraced the barrage of emotions and images that came with it, shaking ever so slightly as her mind’s eye was assaulted by horribly graphic imagery.

Some time earlier...

Location: Mentella's Room, Summerstone Mansion

Mentella frowned as she looked over both Psion’s statement of events and her own statement for the third time. She refreshed the screen, which showed her that Sai’edra still had not sent her statement through, but was a step away from uploading. Sighing deeply, Mentella stood up and made her way over to her bed; she lay back on her bed, folding her hands over her stomach as she laced her fingers and closed her eyes. Her telepathic manifestation appeared on her head, a crown of magenta with several arches; arcing from the focal point to the back of her head, slightly illuminating the material beneath her head as it appeared.

She relaxed for a few moments and allowed herself to follow her connection to her sister’s mind.

--

Location: Astral Plane

Mentella materialized onto the astral plane and a few feet from her was a soft whirlwind of white and blue, slowing down as it coalesced into a familiar figure. The figure continued to spin slowly for a while until Su’s likeness fully materialized and she looked around, slightly confused.

<Hello Sus’anna, how are you?> ~ Mentella

Su started at the voice and turned around, smiling as she laid eyes on her older sister.

<Mentella! I did wonder what was going on…anyway, I’m fine, how are you?> ~ Su

<I’m doing well, just sorting out a few lingering matters since the closing of The Summerstone Academies.> ~ Mentella.

<I see; if you need any help, just ask. I know it was a difficult thing to do. Oh, I spoke to J’asira the other day, she says she misses me but she’s working on a few things so she’s keeping busy.> ~ Su.

<Thank you for the offer, but hopefully I will not need to borrow any of your time. How is the business trip going? No trouble from VIPER or ARGENT, I hope?> ~ Mentella.

Su looked down at her astral self, seemingly studying it as she responded.

<Not yet, I’m not ruling out that possibility but honestly? Part of me wants to strangle James Harmon, makes me wonder if his relationship with Bethany is actually non-existent, I know he’s got an alter ego to maintain but el’sai…but other than that, the trip is going well.> ~ Su

<Well I'm sure you'll survive, however, if the urge to harm him becomes too strong...I recommend you give in.> ~ Mentella

Su’s eyes widened and she looked up at Mentella, whose expression openly showed her amusement. Su rolled her eyes, grinned, and shook her head at her older sister.

<Joking aside, you may be pleased to know Mr. Moriarty has plans to travel to New York in a few months time.> ~ Mentella

<Interesting…that could be a reason for me to escape this six month business trip and Harmon. Hmm, will you be able to send me the specifics via email? If you tell me now…I’ll forget, got a few things on my mind at the moment.> ~ Su

<As you wish, I’ll ask J’asira if she can send it over to you. I thought you should be aware, I received a summons from the High Consul, as did Ed’ran and Sai’edra.> ~ Mentella.

Su’s eyes narrowed as she stepped towards her sister, her expression serious and fearful at the same time.

<Promise me you’ll be careful. I’m not about to allow myself or J’asira to be put through the situation we were in last time. Tell me you’ll do whatever it takes if you run into trouble.> ~ Su

<Sus’anna…> ~ Mentella

Mentella paused and looked at her sister, her astral reflection seemed tense as if she were about to crumble or explode with rage. Taking a deep breath Mentella reached out and pulled her sister into an embrace. She placed the palm of her left hand on the back of Su’s head as she spoke.

<We’ll return safely, I promise.> ~ Mentella

They parted and Su nodded, appearing much more relaxed at hearing her sister’s promise.

<Take care of yourself and keep us updated. I can hear someone knocking at the door, very faintly…I think I need to go.> ~ Su

<In that case, I’ll leave you to it. We will see each other soon enough, take care Sus’anna.> ~ Mentella.

Mentella watched as Su’s astral reflection faded as she returned to consciousness, her happy expression the last thing to fade from the plane. Mentella smiled to herself and exited the astral plane.
