Biography

Seth Henreid was one of the multitudes of children orphaned during the Battle of Detroit. Shuttled between orphanages and foster homes from ages 7 to 11, Seth considers himself one of the 'lucky ones', having been adopted by a caring family from Millennium City. Deeply affected by the physical and emotional ruin stemming from Dr. Destroyer's heinous actions, Seth decided to become a social worker to aid the disadvantaged.

Becoming a clinical social worker, Seth's education in psychology and the humanities was put to the test by the often tragic reality of life for the poor, the ill, and the mentally disabled. He was sorely tried by the often-futile struggle to improve his clients' quality of life and began to consider pursuing a less strenuous area of profession, when he was assigned the Piraud case.

Perla Piraud was an adult woman suffering from schizophrenia who needed psychosocial rehabilitation aid. Seth became her psycho-social rehabilitator and counselor, and discovered that much of Perla's attention was focused on rich and bizarre fantasy world she'd invented called 'Fargaia', inhabited by children, the elderly, and magical creatures both benevolent and baleful. She had written reams of information on this setting, detailing the adventures of four children from our world on a quest in Fargaia for an entire wall's worth of magic bricks to seal off 'the Barrows', Fargaia's font of evil.

But, somehow, Perla's delusions had some basis in reality; one of her neighbors proved to be a monstrous Fargaian witch out to devour her, and Perla invested Seth with the power of the immortal Kingfisher, the champion of Fargaia. Granted incredible strength and fortitude, Seth became Halcyon, and defeated the creature. Now, Halcyon stands watch over the city and world, defending it from crime and supervillainy, while facing further horrors drawn forth from Perla's strange world.

Powers

Strength of the Sky-Sea - Halcyon is invested with incredible strength, capable of lifting genuinely immense amounts of material and able to impart his blows titanic force. When combined with his speed and invulnerability, this also allows him to perform tremendous feats of strength, like diverting flooding rivers with ditches excavated by spinning like a human drill, single-handedly constructing houses and buildings in record amounts of time, and moving cargo ships full of needed supplies across the ocean at super-speed.

Invincible Light of the Kingfisher - The golden glow which suffuses Halcyon has hardened his body against harm. Most small arms and personal weapons bounce off of his glowing body without harm, and only heavier weapons and explosives can even bruise him. The light provides all the nourishment he requires, making him immune to hunger, thirst and suffocation, and even allows him to survive in extremes such as the vacuum of space and a volcano's caldera unharmed. Only the most virulent and deadly of poisons and viruses can effect him, and even those are usually non-fatal. Finally, Halcyon does not age, and will likely persist as long as his divine flame burns (though Seth is not so lucky...)

Speed of the Kingfisher - Like his namesake, Halcyon can take to the sky, flying at speeds of 2000 MPH and beyond. He is also superhumanly quick on his feet, moving at similar speeds (without the resulting sonic booms and attendant destruction) with reaction speeds far beyond mortal man.

Kingfisher's Wisdom - The mystical light which grants Halcyon its might has other uses, being a source of tremendous magical potential, but Halcyon has little training with it and has only discovered certain aspects of it. He has discovered how to extend the light from his eyes to penetrate solid objects (though mystical warding thwarts this), and how to diffuse it across great distances to bring conversations and sounds to him at superhuman range. He also has a mystical ability to translate any language in writing, speech, or even more exotic forms (so long as it is an attempt by an intelligence to communicate, he understands). Finally, he has discovered a kinship with animals, and the ability to understand their 'speech' and communicate in kind.
