History!

The sweet nothings!

You know how some superheroes manage to get amnesia, and they arrive back into the waking world in some spectacular fashion? Or in a horrible location? Cassandra isn't one of those people.

....For the most part.

Her story, as far as we know, starts on 24th of May, 2011. It was a sunny day in Belgium. Obviously, with such a rare weather phenomenon, shit was bound to get out of whack.

Oh. You might be wondering where Belgium IS. It's a little (microscopic, even) country from Europe, known for it's chocolate, bad sports and it's capital being the HQ for Europe. Regardless, the place where Cassie woke up wasn't quite so renowned. Machelen, to be exact.

Now, remember your last drunken binge. Now that you've failed, remember the aftermath of your blackout. Those moments of trying to recall what the fuck happened, and you piecing it together. What Cassie went through those first couple of days was pretty similar, but worse. After all, most don't usually wake up with black (as in, utterly black, not Afro-American) skin, blue glowing orbs for eyes and a complete lack of memories.

Well..That last part's not quite accurate. She did have some memories. Just nothing containing locations or people. She knew the basics of how to be a civilized teenager. Aside from her fits. Those were rather subdued and sporadic. Not to mention justified. I blame a lack of experience. Oh, and she also had superpowers, and knowledge on how to use them.

As far as blackouts go, not an overly bad trade-off. Aside from maybe her baldness. But you know, she makes it work for her. She has a lot of funny hats and wigs.

You might be wondering : how did the people of Machelen react? Well....Rather well, all things considered. The government wasn't all too sure what to do about her, but a local family (the Klaasens) offered to take her in.Well, I say family, but it was just them and their son in this big-ass house. They liked her and they could use company! The government didn't make a fuzz, hell, they helped her citizenship along. It probably helped that she had superpowers. After all, having a superhero who's got ties in the country could never be a bad thing. You never know if a super-villain would try a practice run on their land, right?

Life of a teleporty teen!

Now. I could tell you what happened next. I could elaborate on this one jackass (name undisclosed) who kept groping her when no-one was watching because she was 'exotic'. Her newly christened big brother (Derrick Mildew) kinda took offense when he found out. He voiced his displeasure in a way only wooden bats could convey.

Or the tale about the few people who DID object to a superhuman living in the community. About their stupid bullshit spiel about 'superhumans attracting bad news'....Okay, granted. It happens a lot, but a sweet lass like Cassie? REALLY? Bull. Shit.

Hell, those fuckers is why she wasn't all too keen on using her powers the first few months. She got better, though. A lot better. But more on that in a minute.

There's also that tidbit about the army actually offering Cassie a position. She was flattered, but no, she wasn't one for such an environment. Now if only the recruiter had actually taken her first answer at face value. Still, the guy lived. That's more than some stalkers can say.

...Heh. Oh dear, or her squeeing over a getting a car, and everyone practically going 'WTF' over it, seeing as her power IS teleportation. In hindsight, it did make sense she'd like it.

I'm not even going to comment on the amount of traveling she did, both for fun and other reasons.

See, all of this? This is Cassie's personal life. I'll allow you a glimpse into her life, but that's it. What her life was like shouldn't be known to everyone. Unless she starts writing a biography. Or she tells you. But other then that? Buzz off.

To sum it all up, she lived life in Europe for close to two years. It wasn't all roses, but it was distinctively more good then bad. In fact, she even managed to use her powers for commercial purposes, and make a mint doing it!

So naturally, SOMETHING fucked her over.

MC, it's a place!

Or more specifically, someone threatened to do so. They called themselves MTM: Mens Tegen Mutant or Man Versus Mutant. It started out mild, at first. People heckling her, hushed debates, dirty looks, letters about her being 'unclean'....

...Look, 'mild' is relative, okay?

It got worse, after all. Soon, it wasn't just her. It was everyone around her, for being a 'mutie-lover'. Hell, she lost friends because of it. You might wonder: Why didn't she do anything?

Answer: she did. But remember....Most of us, including me, are pretty much cynic fucks. Cassie...Well. She tries to see the good in people, you know? She figured that if she led a good and proper life, they'd see the error of their ways, and stop. When it got worse, she did step up towards the police, but there never was any evidence linking it to any one person.

At the end, though? She...Cassie got death threats. Which weren't just promising death for her alone, either. All her friends, family....And then the place she worked out of got firebombed. That's when she decided to move away. Somewhere where mutants were more common. Where she wouldn't be a freak.

Of course, BEFORE she moved away, someone mysteriously parked a car in Leslie Daan's house. The second floor, to be exact. The fellow turned out to be a member of MTM. I'll assume he learned a valuable life lesson that night. Or two, his car was pretty wrecked from crashing through a brick wall. The police didn't look too deeply into the case, seeing as Leslie was a known bigot and authority hater, including cops. It also didn't help him that they found materials in his basement for making molotovs.

MTM was surprisingly less vocal after that. Fancy that.

Still, Cassandra didn't move back. After all, it's not like she moved -just- because people threatened her. She did want to live in a place more designed towards 'special folk', and what place is better then MC? She wanted to interact with people like her.

She also wanted to expand her business. I mean, sure, She made good money, but she could do better! Maybe even expand. Hire a receptionist. Get some offices. Big stuff. Of course, being legally 19 made it hard to OWN such a company, but UNTIL, much like the government in Belgium, made an exception possible for this young entrepreneur. Though it still isn't her company, technically: that honor goes to her dad, Jamie Klaasens. Can someone say...'figurehead'? Heh. Thankfully, for her business, her old customers (which she still helps out!) have called relatives in the states, ensuring that she'll have a steady stream of good publicity going. Aren't networks grand?

Cape Ahoy!

...Which neatly catches us up to the present. Cassandra has been living the life in MC. Naturally, her superpowered butt managed to get struck up in the cape scene somehow.

After stopping a few purse-snatchers and a drive-by in creative ways, she was asked by UNTIL if she wanted to have access to a special communication channel for heroes. It came with a nifty device. Really, what kinda teenager is gonna say no to THAT? Seriously, the seminar for it was totally worth it, in her opinion.

She christened herself Gate Gal, for obvious reasons....And figured it might be good marketing to make 'Gate Gal' her mascot!

Whether or not that turns out to be a horrible decision? We'll see, now won't we?

Her repertoire of awkward awesomeness

Powers, activate!

Gate Gal's superpowers are limited, unlike some. But only in quantity. What she has, she uses WELL.

Teleportation

Gate Gal can teleport both herself and other objects, including people. She's rather good at it, too. In fact, she's SO good at it, she can power through most anti-teleport measures! Of course, the ease and possible success depends on just what she's trying to port. Bigger loads = more difficulty.

Of course, she does have her specific brand of teleportation...

Gateportation

As the name implies, Cassandra usually creates teleportation gates. It's infinitely easier then actual teleportation, seeing nothing is actually teleported. It just gets shoved through. Creating these gates takes longer, however.

Ultimate Spatial Awareness

This one's harder to describe. But here goes : She always knows -exactly- where she is, or where a location is, relative to her current location. You could blindfold her, put her under an illusion of her dangling from a cliff, and she'll still know she's standing upright with her hands in front of her, where-ever she is.

Superhuman, sorta!

There's no denying that Cassie's superhuman. It's just not that substantial, compared to other superhumans. Barely even worth the super, relatively speaking. Except one part, but first...What isn't:

Toughness : Cassie's fairly okay against blunt trauma. Shockwaves, thumpings and assorted are things she can survive with minimal damage. To a certain point. More exotic ways, like fire or knives, are another matter. In a nutshell, Gate Gal is somewhat more durable then your average civilian, but not by much.

Strength : She's fairly strong....for a woman her size. As such, she'd be pretty boss in a punch-up with normal gang-members, but anything tougher then that and she's gonna have problems out-punching them. Good thing that a groin kick's always handy.

Speed : Outright running? SNERK. No. Reflexes, though, are higher then most, but that's really her spatial awareness, if anything.

But the part where she's clearly superhuman? That body. I mean, seriously, for a teenager, that's STACKED. Other girls would KILL for that. Well...most of them. Cassie herself is kinda two-sided about it. One one hand, hey, she's not fat from teleporting everywhere. On the other hand, she gets a lot of attention because of it, even if she covers herself up. It makes her uncomfortable, at times.

Gate Gal's Glaring Weakness

So, you might think: 'holy cow, that'd make her almost unstoppable!'. You'd be right , if not for one serious weakness: Gate can only teleport to places she's seen in person. It's one of the reasons why she likes to travel. More places to bounce at, you know?

Passive Abilities!

Martial Arts

Despite what you'd think of such a nice girl, she actually DOES know to how unleash a can of whoop-ass. She doesn't like it, but hey, a girl needs to be able to protect herself, right? And while she isn't a grandmaster or anything, she does have one major advantage: her spatial awareness. Knowing her stance at all times, amongst other things, makes it possible for her to even fight superhumans!

....You know. For a minute or two. She's a teen, not like she'll be able to punch holes through someone.

High-school necessities

Cassie has the basic knowledge garnered from high-school experiences, preparing her for any low-level entry job!

...What? It's a skill! SHUT UP.

Accounting

Recently, she's been taking night courses for accounting. She won't be able to audit books just yet, but hey, she's learning.
