Money. Fame. Respect. In any major metropolitan area, these ideals often catch the eye of children in the community. And Carl was no different. A high school dropout, Carl turned to a life of crime alongside his best friend Dwayne Gerald. The two were apart of a local gang for years with no change in their future outside of a sorrowful death or a life behind bars.

But one day, the pair were captured by members of a shadow organization known only as The River. Their goal was to create metahumans designed to neutralize both heroes and villains. To do this, they captured and mutated members of society deemed forgettable (the homeless, drifters, and teen runaways) and subjected them to genetic and cybernetic adaptations, an unforgiving training regiment, mental conditioning and neural implants.

Carl and his fellow subjects would have been released upon the world to perform assassinations of noteable metahuman personalities, but a freak accident lead to a revolt by the test subjects. Most perished in the assault, but a lucky few managed their escape, with Carl counting himself among the survivors.

The experience scarred him mentally, turning Carl into a defender of the forgettable. He resolved to move to Millenium City. With PRIMUS backing, he has set out onto the streets of Westside to ensure any and everyone has someone to turn to in the hopes he can prevent others from suffering his same fate.

Psych Profile

The giant and the socialite arrive
Carl Davis has become a strong idealist in many ways, embracing the standards of superheroics avidly. However, his time in the river has also lead him to cling to cracks in the system, as well as lead him to make morally grey choices. The hero has been known to without information from the police and other authrity figures and has a strong distrust of organizations in general. They do not "look out for the little guy" as he put it. Break Down strongly prefers to personally aid his rescuees as opposed to put their fate into the hands of a business or government organization with "quotas to meet."

A stereotypical martyr. Break Down shows strong reluctance to speak of his time under The River and it is assumed that an underlying sense of guilt involving his fellow test subjects drives him to self sacrifice in the line of duty.

Break Down has shown himself to be critical of other heroes with a lack of moral compass. Whether this is due to his severe loyalty to the forgettable and how they should be treated, or a side effect of his mental conditioning to hunt down heroic metahumans is unknown. However, as of the time of writing this, Break Down has not initiated violoence against any hero that hasn't met his standards of heroics.

Vesper

Powers

Break Down has been reworked on a genetic level, giving him the ability to manual shift his density. By increasing hit, he drastically increases his weight and durability, to the point that he has survived blasts equivalent to tank shells. This density extends to all forms of his solid biological mass, but reverts to normal if said mass is removed from his body.

Enhanced strength allows him to stand toe to toe with some of the physically strongest metahumans alive.

Combat training has made the normally ignorant appearing hero calm and collected in a firefight.

Break Down is gifted the ability to grow in size, drastically increasing his combat capabilities. Furthermore, when growing in size, his strength increases on an exponential level, allowing the hero to move at speeds greater than other creatures of comparable size. However, this is a rarely used and potentially hazardous ability as it leaves him vulnerable in the long run.

Break Down was meant to have the ability to retain high levels of heat within his body. His pores were shrunk down, some closed off completely, to allow him to retain heat. However, this genetic mutation failed, and Break Down forever has to maintain his heat levels or risk heat stroke. The larger and more dense he is, the faster he builds heat, with it being theorized that in his larger forms he could even cause his internal liquids to boil before he would even realize. This means that no matter how he chooses to fight, he's on a strict time limit for how long he can. And the more effort he puts in, the more he relies on his powers, the faster his heat builds.

Due to his high density body, Break Down cannot swim. In any body of water, he will immediately sink.

Toxins are difficult to recover from. Without the use of questionite tools, it is difficult to perform surgery or provide the simplest of injections to Break Down.
