Barky is the animal companion of my main character, Stargirl, played using the 'Demon Dog Action Figure' in game. Barky spawned when I chanced upon another player in-game with the action figure. I was instantly enamored with the look and got one of my own. As time progressed I fleshed out the character of Barky more and more in RP. He serves as an homage to the Silver Age animal sidekicks of comics past. The 'Krypto' to Stargirl's 'Superman'.

The young D'Brrrkilhiem pup who would come to be known as Barky began his life amongst a large pack that made their home in the volcanic isles of the tropical region of L'Bion called Mmacar. There he lived a pleasant life, oblivious to the problems of the world around him. There were some elders that spoke of the increasingly erratic passing of the seasons in recent years and the strife occurring in the society of the 'Two-Legs'. All of this went in one ear and out the other for Barky however. What was going on out in the lands of the Two-Legs had never affected the D'Brrrkilhiem in any serious way before. Surely whatever the elders were worried about would soon pass and life would go as usual.

Then came the day that would change Barky's life. While on a casual stroll through one of the outlying islands of Mmacar, Barky spotted a group of Two-Legs acting suspiciously. Spurred on by youthful curiousity, he followed them for several days as they made their way across the isle. The majority of the Two-Legs' time seemed to be spent putting things into strange glowing containers. Barky observed as the Two-Legs gathered plants, rocks, soil, even other animals in this fashion.

He continued to follow from a distance for fear of being spotted and becoming the next occupant of one of their containers. The Two-Legs eventually led him to their camp, where he overhead a conversation between them. Only somewhat versed in the tongue of the Two-Legs, Barky's interpretation of their discussion seemed to confirm the rantings of the elders: Something terrible was happening in the lands of the Two-Legs and they were preparing some kind of exodus from the world itself. For reasons Barky couldn't fully grasp, it was the job of these particular Two-Legs to gather bits and pieces of the world to bring with them. He had to return and warn his pack!

In his rush to return, he stepped on the brittle underbrush near the camp and alerted the Two-Legs to his presence. They closed in on him quickly, ensnaring him in a net to prevent his escape. Even then, he fought tooth and nail to break free so he could warn his pack. His efforts ultimately proved futile, he was outnumbered and outmatched by the Two-Legs. His last thoughts before being put into the glowing container were of escape and the fate of his pack. The world seemed to go white around Barky and he slept.

When next he awoke, Barky was a captive in a cell of the makeshift zoo aboard an L'Bion science vessel. Surrounded by strange creatures and completely out of his element, Barky bided his time and tried to learn as much about this new place as he could from within the cell. A Two-Leg would come in periodically to bring him food. Another would arrive to check his general health and disposition. Less regularly, a group of two or three would enter his cell to test his mental faculties with cognitive and language tests. Barky made the best of all this, playing along with the games of the Two-Legs enough to satisfy whatever it is they hope to achieved with all these tests.

As time wore on, Barky began to suspect that not only would he never see his pack again but that the place he had once known as home was all but gone. That was when tragedy struck once more, the science vessel came under fire from unknown attackers. As the ship burned, one of the Two-Legs opened all of the zoo cages. Scores of animals fled from the fires in a panic.

Abilities & Weaknesses

Trivia & Rumors

  • Barky is revered by a colony of hyper-intelligent ants in the New Mexico desert. The irradiated ants began worshiping him after he accidentally stepped on their tyrannical queen and mistakenly appointed a new democratic ant president by sniffing a random drone. The ants have built small dirt monuments to the space dog and several Barky-ologists await his second coming to the colony.

((Say nice things about Barky here!))

RP Hooks

  • Got a character that lives in or spends a lot of time in Westside? Chances are they've caught sight of Barky on a stroll.
  • Does your character spend an inordinate amount of time on the internet looking at videos of pets? Barky is the star of a series of youtube videos involving him smashing cardboard buildings in a parody of the Godzilla movies.
