Description

Paragraph Indent.pngBalthazaros as he calls himself, is a titanic and monstrous entity in possession of super strength and infernal mysticism. He is a villain at heart, but presently remains neutral within the world he has found himself transported to unwillingly. Once a magical titan who brutally dominated any weaker race that came across his path, he has now found himself without his former powers, banished to Earth, alone and without purpose.

Paragraph Indent.pngHe is quiet and studious, yet his actions speak loudest of all: he is a brutal and violent creature who shreds his foes with sharp and deadly claws, or tears them apart with his fearsome teeth and tusks. The horns donning his head are also more than merely decorative, and with his powerful muscles he can rip the limbs off of ordinary mortals with ease. Furthermore, he commands dark and infernal magics that allow him to drain the life essence from those whom he grasps. This life-draining power combined with his physical strength means an individual's moment of slowness may result in them being held in an inescapable clinch, before being emptied of all that keeps them among the living.

Appearance

Paragraph Indent.pngA hulking bestial figure, covered in long yet coarse black and brown hair. Beneath his shaggy coat of fur and heavy hide, is an immensely powerful musclebound form. Aside from his gargantuan proportions, Balthazaros is in possession of two large horns protruding from his head, sweeping forward with their deadly sharpened points. Shorter horns, though no less dull, protrude from the top of his skull in a decorative, crown-like formation. All his horns are inscribed with runic swirls, further evidence of a mystical rather than natural origin.

Paragraph Indent.pngBalthazaros' face is a genetic whirlpool of beasts, seeming akin to that of a bear or wolf, yet combined with the heavy features of a bison or boar. Facial features include thick brows that always seem lowered in a grim expression, a broad but short nose and a strong jaw constantly set in a determined manner. His eyes are a unique combination of a black sclera, and a glowing crimson iris. Though his visage seems quite monstrous, his expression is hard to judge at times. Though he often seems impassive for lengthy amounts of time, subtle flickers can be noticed when examined carefully enough. He communicates almost exclusively through body language when first encountering an individual, and only speaks when his interest has been piqued, or his trust has been earned.

Background

History

Paragraph Indent.pngA monstrous fae hailing from another plane, Balthazaros was once a titan of his own pantheon. With a seemingly immortal status, he used cosmic and mystical powers to leach the stored power of belief within the Faerie realm, while dominating a race of lesser, sentient creatures. Forcing them to live in fear and suffering, he slowly drained them of their life energy in order to grow more powerful still. Often manifesting himself as a tremendous behemoth, he would watch the subservient mortals struggle to survive: fighting one another and often sacrificing each other in hopes of gaining some mercy from the bestial colossus; Balthazaros rarely satisfied them. At all other times he would travel to a place of sanctuary: a dark and hellish world covered in black stone and sulfur. The heat was lethal to all but Balthazaros and the powers he controlled to protect himself, and the sky was often covered in deadly toxic smoke. To add to such elements that were already poisonous to most life forms, the planet itself was near to the solar system's resident star, and was so small that it did not support a significant atmosphere, such that the cosmic sky and distant glow of other galaxies was often visible from its surface. Though Balthazaros would often examine this view offered to him, he thought only of the other worlds that must lay within that distance, determined that once his present race of slaves was obliterated, he might find others to control.

Paragraph Indent.pngBut his reign of dominance came to an end when others within the Faerie Realm began sensing the immense power he possessed. A group of several, including Nascent godlings, managed to locate him and challenge his rule. Balthazaros proved to be a nearly indestructible foe. With tremendous physical strength only amplified by his magical powers, he was able to defeat most of them through brute strength alone, until at last there were only a small few to oppose him. Realizing the odds weren't in their favor, they managed to communicate a message of distress outside of Balthazaros' domain, recruiting more allies. As the remaining few godlings fought desperately against him, the baleful titan sensed danger for the first time, and called upon all of the chaotic energies he commanded. He brutally slew them, tearing apart their very essence both physical and metaphysical, but tapping into turbulent powers was risky as it further attracted attention from the other domains. A singularity occurred, and in a single massive command, Balthazaros was weakened considerably, stricken down by the power of the greater pantheons. However, the brutal overlord was not defeated, and using his knowledge of magic he was able to banish himself to the Astral plane; powerless, but alive.

Paragraph Indent.pngFor some time, Balthazaros floated in the veil of the astral plane. It wasn't until a DEMON summoning ritual on Earth, that he saw the light of opportunity, and masked his true nature. Seeking out the mystical and demonic spirits they wished to use to rule and enslave others by, DEMON came across Balthazaros' banished essence. They sensed the untapped reserves of magical energy, the spirit of the chaotic behemoth and an air of servility within the creature's seemingly scattered mind. Thinking it was yet another demon they might be able to harness, the DEMON group began drawing upon the banished energies, collecting the fragments and binding them once more. Soon, Balthazaros's physical form was manifested for the first time, on Earth. Though DEMON immediately began efforts at binding him to their command, they did not realize the extent of Balthazaros' cunningly concealed willpower. In a violent swath of blood, the once-crowned titan claimed the place of the summoning ritual as his own, while contemplating his current state of existence. Though still unable to draw upon the most powerful of the mystical forces he had once commanded, he sensed they were still there. Through tremendous effort he was still able to siphon some of the essence from those whom he had slain, and though the earth-shattering powers of chaos and destruction were inaccessible to him, he found his powers of manipulation to be intact.

Paragraph Indent.pngThe realization that he was no longer immortal or deific came as a powerful blow to him. His mind heavy with the misery of such a loss, Balthazaros slowly took his first steps to the surface of the world, and found himself on the outskirts of Millennium City. Soon he saw the thematically-garbed humans and other races, and realized that in his current state he would be no challenge to those whom he recognized as wardens of this planet. Burying his sense of loathing and vengeance deep into his soul, Balthazaros set forth to discover his purpose in this new plane. His rational mind told him would be best to ally himself with the less fragmented of the groups spread throughout Millennium City, and to that end he made contact with other heroes, eventually being brought to PRIMUS. The organization provided much in the way of basic knowledge about the world he found himself in, and though the officials asked questions of him as well, Balthazaros rarely provided an answer. Eventually he had the information he desired, and retreated into the city to practice his arcane arts in moderate seclusion.

Current

Paragraph Indent.pngThough seen occasionally in public, Balthazaros is a discreet and solitary figure. He is known to spend time only with those he deems worthy of investing his interest in: he is usually on conciliatory terms with those who show him a degree of respect--or subservience. When he does visit place of a social nature, he is usually reclusive; quiet and reserved. He is not known to fight crime, but known to not be involved at crime, maintaining a very neutral presence in the city. What his exact aims and goals are, is unknown at present.

Character Hooks and Considerations

  • Balthazaros isn't evil, nor is he good: adopting an amoral position, he is capable of adopting whatever morality he finds beneficial to himself, and is willing to perform actions of any nature so long as the benefits outweigh the associated risks and consequences, both short term and long term.
  • Once a powerful titan, now reduced to superhuman levels of strength and power, Balthazaros is resentful of the fact that a being of his nature should be surrounded by (in his opinion) inferior beings whom he cannot consider subservient to him. As a result, he is often dismissive of others and their opinions, until they demonstrate a capacity for trust and mutual respect.
  • Neither arrogant nor humble, Balthazaros is quick to dismiss flashy or exaggerated displays of power that serve no useful purpose. He may be convinced to demonstrate his own powers on others if taunted, or compelled to through sound reason.
  • Neither empathetic nor sympathetic, Balthazaros is not to be swayed by emotional arguments. Reason and logic are by far the best means of encouraging him.
  • Not possessing empathy or sympathy, Balthazaros is forced to identify emotions through purely observational means. His attentiveness allows him to identify more base emotions (and sarcasm).
  • Despite not possessing many (if any) emotions, he can detect them: timidness, cowardliness, immaturity, and those lacking respect, repel Balthazaros.
  • Those who earn Balthazaros' trust and show a submissive nature may encourage his more dominating behavior, though he will be more easily able to show restraint as well.
  • Those who submit entirely to Balthazaros will be considered nothing more than fuel for his fire: a resource of vital essence that he uses to maintain his power over mystic energies. He will have no connection whatsoever to these individuals however, and will likely take no notice of them.
  • Those who earn Balthazaros' trust and show a defiant nature will likely earn further respect from Balthazaros, and may even be treated on more neutral or even ground.
  • Those who defy Balthazaros will possibly invoke his wrath, causing him to deliver harsh words or tempt him into proving his strength or power.
  • Those who betray Balthazaros will be considered his enemy, and will never be forgiven. Ever. He's very vindictive.
  • Most often found in places of mystical significance, or places where he can pursue his quest for knowledge, Balthazaros can more easily be drawn into conversation, particularly if it is relevant to his current interests, objectives, or reasons for being in such places. If found outside of those areas, he is withdrawn and anti-social, and not likely to be hospitable to having company.
  • Though he does visit the infamous Club Caprice on occasion, it is only to observe superhero culture in a centralized location. He does not often indulge in conversation with strangers, and when he does it is usually through body language until and unless his interest is been aroused.
