Arcanum is a technomage villain and a member of the Sinister Syndicate.

Appearance

Avalon does not cut a terribly imposing figure, being only of average height. What she lacks in imposition, however, she makes up for with a somewhat curvy figure and a cunning blue-green stare. Her hair is kept short and modernly styled with fuschia highlights which really do nothing to hide the bit of spiderwebbed scarring around the eyepiece she wears. Her clothing is often tasteful, if vaguely punk at times, and she is not often seen without her Soulcage belt no matter what she's wearing.

Personality

Arcanum is considerably intelligent and even cultured. However she's also cruel, selfish, sadistic, and merciless. Power and knowledge interest her, particularly in regards to her unhealthy fascination with soul transmogrification.

History

Born and raised in Devonshire, England she lead a relatively normal life as a very young child. As Avalon grew older, however, her personality began to change and she grew very interested in the occult and the paranormal. By the time she was a teenager she was obsessed with the idea of souls and spirits being energy forms, and had become a fairly seasoned spellcaster. In her mind there could be no cleaner energy what with the world being as overpopulated as it is and the concept that souls are eternal. She drove herself nearly into a long term frenzy as she strove to learn how she might harness that energy. Almost immediately upon entering college Arcanum began to experiment with her magic to see how she could possibly meld it with technology. What came about was a profound discovery and development of her technopathy. This paved the way for her to begin experimenting in earnest with the design of gadgets and devices that could be used to enhance, siphon, or otherwise manipulate arcane energy. Upon completion of her education, Arcanum was born as a new supervillain and has since begun her march of terror on the world.

Abilities

Avalon has a versatile spell arsenal at her disposal with magicks ranging from mystic bonds to horrifically painful hexes and magic bolts, and even spell absorption/deflection. She specializes in stripping down the defenses of her victims and opponents and inflicting torture. As a technomage she does possess a good measure of technopathy and has seemingly managed to unite the forces of technology and magic together by harnessing energy from the fear and pain of the captured souls of her victims and using them to power her creations.

Equipment

Projector Gloves - A pair of black gloves that appear to have been meticulously laced with almost micro-circuitry. Her own design, these gloves serve to make her spellcasting easier and more immediate. A simple gesture is often all that's needed to launch some nasty hocus pocus...efficiency is key and verbal components simply take much longer than is necessary.

Soulcage Belt - An article of clothing that she is virtually never without, this belt is one of her most prized possessions. The centerpiece is enchanted with an essence-capturing incantation and also wired to the cells that grace the rest of the belt. With the press of a button, the centerpiece can be activated to draw in the soul of any fresh kill and charge the cells like batteries. The more pain and/or fear that the individual was inflicted with upon death, the greater the amount of power provided by the soul. These soul-charged cells are then used to power her various creations and inventions. Souls are eternal, what better energy source is there?

Scanning Eyepiece - A relatively simple piece of equipment, the eyepiece the she wears is another soul-powered gadget that enables her to scan the immediate area for things like radiation, ultraviolet, and infrared signatures...all of which could potentially be important to her work.

Magic Energy Rifle - Aside from her belt, this rifle is her baby. Based off of several prototype designs of her making (which have since been sold to other villains across the globe), the MER is another prime example of her sinister soul-powered technology. Powered with no fewer than ten tortured souls, the mystical beams that this thing blasts are relatively small but can be devastating; chewing through most armor that isn't magic-repellent and inflicting agonizing pain upon any unfortunate to be hit with its bursts. This weapon packs a wallop for the villain on the go.

Constructs - Resembling large robots, these constructs take some time to fashion and require at least two souls to be at all decent in potency. Acting as servants and bodyguards, she can summon forth a construct with a wave of her hand, calling it to her like a well-trained dog stepping through a portal.

Connections

A relatively new blip on the map as far as supervillainry goes, Arcanum has yet to establish many contacts despite having been up to her dirty deeds for five years. Things seem about to change, however, as she has now joined forces with the likes of Fear Factory and other members of the Sinister Syndicate.
