PART 2

“Well that’s…good news, I think? Have all the students been accounted for though? We don’t have any injured from these recent events?” asked Su.

“No, we haven’t had any red lights on the system yet. We’ve had a few students stopping petty crime, those ones were admittedly trained for small scale events but they’ve been cautioned against their actions. Petty crime may be petty but some criminals carry nasty weapons.” Sarah responded.

Su nodded and frowned as her stomach made a strange sound. Sarah’s eyebrows shot up at the sound.

“El’sai…when was the last time you had something with real nutritional value? And have you been drinking any liquids whilst you were travelling?” asked Sarah.

“Last October, maybe? I haven’t been consistent with drinking either…I haven’t been keeping track but it seems to be catching up on me…” sighed Su.

Sarah cursed colorfully and rolled her eyes as she sat Su down. After glaring at Su, Sarah ran off through the set of doors behind them. A few minutes later Sarah came back, a look of concern and frustration on her face as she handed Su two thick, silver sachets. Su blushed ever so slightly as she accepted the sachets.

“I don’t know what it is with you Summerstone women, you never seem to eat on time or monitor yourselves. What were you hoping would happen? Mentella gets back and then you just collapse?” hissed Sarah.

“Thanks Sarah, but one’s eno-” started Su.

“Don’t even think about telling me you’re fine with just one. You will consume both of them.”

Su sighed and tore into the first sachet, she brought the sachet to her lips, tipping her head back slightly as she finished off the first sachet. She looked up as the chandeliers and grand foyer lights suddenly started to flicker. As she tore into the second sachet, a surge of energy passed through the lights, arcing out of the light fixtures and pooling in the centre of the room. The energy coalesced into a humanoid shape; the bright blue energy fading out as flesh tones and clothes replaced it to reveal Sai’edra. Su’s brow knitted in concern as she saw the vaguely haunted look on Sai’edra’s face for a brief moment before it was replaced with a screen of forced joy.

“Hello Su! Hey J’asira! I’m not late am I?” she asked hastily.

Sarah shook her head and turned to Su, placing a hand on her shoulder.

“Feeling better?” she asked.

“Much, I can feel it kicking in already; I underestimated how much I needed this. Thanks Sarah.” smiled Su.

“No trouble whatsoever, we’re good friends and we’re bound by this Sisterhood, we all look out for each other. We have a combat session together later this week, check your schedule; I can’t remember the day exactly. I think it’s a Friday though. Anyway we’ll be sparring as well as another combat instance of your choice. Don’t forget it.” Sarah replied.

“I won’t, by the way, what was the result of the free for all training exercise last week?”

Sarah laughed and shook her head.

“It didn’t go ahead, Jane wasn’t around, neither was CharmCaster. It wouldn’t have been much of a fight if only Cou’ra, Violet and I turned up, so I cancelled it. I think the list was a bit weird to start with to be honest. I’m hoping to set the date for another one though.” replied Sarah.

“Really?” frowned Su.

“Oh yeah, I’m thinking of a match with Psion versus Cou’ra versus you versus J’asira versus me. Two remaining winners fight against Mentella.” grinned Sarah.

“In what world do you think I’m getting involved in something that crazy? I’d rather face off against several Mega Destroyers than fight you guys!” exclaimed Su.

“I’m sure you’ll come around to the idea eventually, it could be a lot of fun! Anyway, I’ll deal with Cou’ra and Sai’edra. I know you’ll need your space for a little while.” Sarah replied.

Su gave a small smile and nodded as Sarah motioned for Cou’ra and Sai’edra to follow her. She led them into the next room and closed the door, turning to look down at the two shorter Xenians. Sai’edra looked around the room, turning back to Sarah as the door closed. Cou’ra walked off towards the other side of the room and dropped onto the white and black sofa as she gazed out of the window.

“What’s going on?” frowned Sai’edra.

“I know you will have a lot to speak about with Mentella but…Su and J’asira are her sisters…they’ll need…time to reunite with Mentella. Sometimes things get a little…emotional. Especially with J’asira, she hasn’t handled it well. I think its best we give them a little privacy before welcoming them back.” explained Sarah.

“Oh, of course… if I had a sister and I was in their shoes…I’d probably be a wreck right now.” Sai’edra smiled sadly.

Sarah leant towards Sai’edra keeping her voice low.

“When I saw you after you’d returned, you looked like you’d been through the depths of Kiri’ath’jaruum and back. What exactly happened back home?” she asked.

Sai’edra’s expression became haunted as she stared at the mirror behind Sarah and backed away as if she’d seen something incredibly disturbing. She started shaking her head rapidly.

“I don’t want to talk about it. All I’ll say is they messed with my head and it hurt. A lot.”

“Well, have you spoken to anyone about it? J’asira? Su?” Sarah asked softly

“No, I don’t want J’asira to know what happened; she…she shouldn’t have to deal with that. Su shouldn’t either. This is my fault, I’m responsible for this.” Sai’edra whispered.

Sarah unfolded her arms partially and nudged Sai’edra.

“Hey, this is in no way your fault, so don’t even get that idea in your head, or I’ll knock it out. What about Delta? What did you tell them?”

Sai’edra gave a sad smile which quickly transformed into an angry glare as she spoke.

“I just let them know I escaped. I…I can’t…I don’t want to remember it…it’s driving me insane! Bits and pieces constantly flash into my mind’s eye, just fragments. I…I don’t think I could tell them everything myself. I’m kind of hoping Mentella will agree to do it for me, I’d…I wouldn’t cope if I had to. I’m just so…angry at myself.” hissed Sai’edra.

“I just said this isn’t your fau-” Sarah started

“Isn’t it?! Elyisaus came here for me; he attacked them and could have killed them because they were trying to protect me. I put my best friend and both her sisters in a situation which could have died for defying a High Consulman. What kind of friend does that?! What kind of team mate am I for putting them all in danger?! The answer is I’m bad friend and a bad team mate…I’m just a disaster; everyone who associates with me is tainted or damaged somehow. It’s like I’m cursed.”

Sarah saw Sai’edra’s dejected expression and drew a little closer, placing a hand on her shoulder as Sai’edra’s physical form started to fall apart, tiny tears on her body started to show, as the light from her energy form shot out in different directions. The touch seemed to ground Sai’edra and the holes slowly closed up.

“Stay with me…did…did they ask what happened to you?”

“No? Maybe? I don’t think so. They don’t need the extra burden of worrying about me. I should just quit the team. Everyone would be better off.” she sighed.

Cou’ra rolled her eyes and turned her face away from the window. She walked over to where her sister and Sai’edra were talking.

“Sai’edra, as your friend, I will say this, and I can’t believe I’m saying this but, you have GOT to chill out, seriously. Mentella is coming back and then you can sort everything out. We’re all glad you are alive and well, the only person who probably isn’t is Elyisaus but no one gives a screaming balkaa’ri about him. I’ve worked with Delta before, I attempted to be your stand in; it wasn’t easy. You are a valuable asset to that team; don’t be so quick to write yourself off. There’s no way you’re the only person in that group to have some sort of drama. Everyone has drama. Everyone.” Cou’ra huffed.

“She’s right you know. They'll understand." nodded Sarah

Sai’edra paused, looking up as Cou’ra offered her a cheeky grin, forcing her to smile as well.

GRAND FOYER - SUMMERSTONE MANSION

The silence that filled the foyer was almost deafening, J’asira was completely emotionless as Su paced back and forth. A crisp, masculine and slightly concerned voice cut through the silence:

“Alert! Unknown dimensional energies detected within the foyer! Cosmoportation event imminent!”

J’asira gripped the edge of the seat as a bright orange light filled the centre of the room, she stood up, rooted to the spot as the orange light swirled into a sphere and then proceeded to expand outwards, stretching into an oval shape. The two sisters watched a secondary, smaller oval formed next to the larger orange oval; it glowed momentarily, soon fading into a swirl of different colours as both constructs seemed to stabilize. The smaller oval floated towards the larger orange construct, forming a portal of sorts.

Su’s eyes widened, her jaw dropping slightly as two shadows appeared to be walking towards the edge of the portal from the other side. J’asira stared as the shadows drew closer, soon stepping out of the portal and into the room; sheathes of bright, orange light encasing them both. A warm, incredibly familiar voice sounded out of the portal, accompanied by ribbons of warm light which encircled both Su and J’asira, settling on them as the voice rang through the portal.

“Sus’anna Summerstone, J’asira Summerstone. We sense you are well. Time is short. We will speak with you soon. But above all else, know that we are well also.”

The portal slowly sealed as the two familiar humanoid figures sheathed in light stepped forwards. The light gradually faded revealing Psion and Mentella. Mentella looked at her sisters; a rare and beautiful smile appeared on her face.

“Mentella!” exclaimed Su.

She rushed forwards and pulled Mentella into a strong hug. Mentella returned the hug, whilst Psion stood to the side, slightly stunned at the speed that Su had moved with. Su released her sister and turned to Psion, his eyes widened as hers met his and he prepared himself for an argument.

“Before you attempt to blame me for this entire situation I will say thi-” he started.

He was cut off as Su hugged him as well. Psion tensed, his eyes conveying enough surprise to be almost comical as, for once; he struggled to find words to say. Su pulled back and addressed him, a small smile on her face.

“I don’t need to be psychic to know that you did everything possible to keep my sister safe. So thank you.”

Psion blinked, collecting himself as he replied, coughing a few times before managing to reply.

“Yes, of course. No thanks necessary.” he nodded.

Mentella smiled and turned to her youngest sister, who seemed to be in shock.

From across the room, J’asira had frozen completely as her eyes landed on her eldest sister. She watched as Su greeted both Mentella and Psion but remained rooted to where she stood. For a very long time, she just stared almost as if she wasn’t sure what she was seeing. Mentella stared back; her expression was intense but somewhat controlled. Su and Psion watched as neither one of them spoke a word until Mentella spoke, her voice thick with emotion as her whisper broke the spell of silence that had briefly captured the room.

“J’asira? I’m back.” whispered Mentella.

The sound of her sister calling her name had J’asira moving, taking unsteady steps towards Mentella. Her eyes started glistening and her focus switched between Su, Psion and Mentella as she walked closer. She stopped a few feet away, staring up at her eldest sister as if lost. For a moment everyone hovered in their places, then Mentella stepped towards her sister and J’asira ran at her, leaping through the air and latching onto her and the tears in her eyes finally broke free. The technopath looked like she was having a mental breakdown as various different emotions seemed to burst forth, fighting for dominance. She tried to say something as she buried her head in her sister’s hair but found herself unable to. Without warning the various metal devices around the room began to buckle and ring, the light fixtures shattered, the defence systems blared as J’asira’s emotions overwhelmed her.

Psion’s eyes widened as several turrets dropped from the ceiling and began firing randomly, he moved forwards but Su was quicker, the air around them wavered as a force field surrounded them, he watched as the random blasts were absorbed with ease.

For a moment, Psion was certain J’asira might be the cause of Mentella’s death because she was hugging her so tight. He crossed his own arms and narrowed his eyes as J’asira continued clinging to her sister, shaking and crying profusely.

“You…you…” she stuttered through sobs “I thought…I-I…n-news reports…explos-sion...”

Mentella’s expression became pained and she closed her eyes, focusing on consoling her sister, calming her down as the numerous devices orbiting around them began to slow down from a dizzying swirl of metal to a much slower rotation. J’asira lifted her head, unwrapping herself from around her sister, her face stained with tears. Su moved towards them, crowding J’asira slightly as she was welcomed into the embrace.

“I ran a million checks….I scanned countless databases, I sent out so many dro…I…I was so scared. I thou-…I thought I’d lost you.” J’asira continued.

Mentella nodded several times, and looked at her sisters with such warmth and raw emotion that Psion felt jealously rearing its ugly head as it began to play on his mind. He quickly tried to suppress it, scolding himself.

Stop it! They are family. Family is everything!

The material on Mentella’s arms shifted and peeled back, revealing her skin as she caressed J’asira’s hair, almost as if she were comforting a very small child. The touch seemed to work as the room quieted down; the turrets stopped firing and flew back into the ceiling, the panels sliding back over them as seamlessly. Psion watched as the pieces of metal and even a robot or two which were swirling around dropped out of orbit. Su looked around cautiously, and then down at J’asira who seemed to be in better control, and dropped the force field surrounding them.

Psion suddenly felt like an intruder in the room, as waves of strong emotions filled it with suffocating force, he turned to leave when a hand clamped around his forearm. He turned back, looking at the hand, tracing it up to its owner. J’asira. She sniffed; her eyes looked slightly puffy as white energy crackled around the edges. She gripped his arm with surprising strength and tugged him into a half embrace.

“Thank you for taking care of her. Turns out you aren’t all bad. I think I’m beginning to see why Mentella allows you to hang around.” she nodded.

“Yes, he did help.” Mentella stated.

“I take it Ed’ran went a little too far?” asked Su.

Psion noted the sharp glint in Mentella’s eyes as she stared right at him. He simply straightened himself and lifted his chin, making it clear that he had no regrets whatsoever.

“I would do this all again if necessary, although I wouldn’t hold back as much I did. It is not my fault that they were foolish to believe that offending us would be without dire consequences.” he spat.

Su’s eyebrows shot up at Psion’s reply and she turned to Mentella who just closed her eyes, shaking her head. Moments later, the doors to the adjacent room opened, revealing Cou’ra, Sarah and Sai’edra. Cou’ra looked around, whistling at the laser marks, shattered glass and pieces of metal embedded in the walls.

“El’sai…what kind of hurricane tore this place up?” exclaimed Cou’ra

“The technopathic variety, judging from the laser burns on the walls and the embedded metal.” noted Sai’edra.

“Hurricane J’asira is…quite impressive.” Psion mumbled.

Sarah walked up to Mentella and looked her up and down; she sighed and shook her head.

“Well, looks like you survived. What a shame. I’d organized a “Mentella’s dead” celebration event. When I announced it, it was a HUGE hit; Medusa was going to DJ the whole thing! Looks like I’ll have to call it off now…I know several super villains and super heroes who really wanted to come too. They’ll be really disappointed when I tell them the news…but I guess you already know who I’m talking about.” Sarah smirked.

“Just postpone the party, don’t call it off. You never know, it could still be the party of the year.” Mentella replied.

Sarah laughed and placed a hand on Mentella’s shoulder.

“It’s good to have you back Mentella.” she smiled.

Mentella returned the smile and nodded exchanging a few words with her and moving to speak with Cou’ra. Psion looked up at Sarah, frowning slightly as he mentally replayed their conversation. Sarah looked over to Psion, catching his contemplative look.

“Yeah, that’s the way we are with each other. Deal with it. Good to see you too though.”

Psion’s frown deepened as he looked over to where Mentella, Sai’edra and J’asira were conversing. Su waved to him as she left and the two Crystallos siblings disappeared through the doors at the end of the room leaving him standing near a twisted piece of metal, alone.

Typical. He thought.

<Ed’ran, Sai’edra’s my priority. I’ll meet with you tomorrow to discuss a few things. In the meantime make your way to the second floor and enter the fourth room. Su should have prepared it for you.> ~ Mentella.

<Very well. Are…are we keeping this connection?> ~ Psion.

<I have no plans to terminate it. Do you?> ~ Mentella.

<Oh good. NO! Erm, no, of course not. Bye.> ~ Psion.

Mentella frowned and shook her head as she watched Psion hover up the stairs. She zoned back into the conversation she was having catching the end of J’asira’s question.

“…so if Elyisaus really did escape the time stream itself, how do the High Consul plan to find him?” she asked

“I’m not entirely sure, there were a number of other XM’s who were prisoner too. I’m not entirely sure what he attempted to do to Sai’edra or what he wanted with us all, I never had a chance to dissect his mind. Hopefully if there is any progress I will be contacted by Father. Right now though, until something happens, there is little we can do. If he does for some reason show up on Earth, well…we’ll be racing against Delta to get to him first. In either case he will be completely destroyed.” Mentella replied.

“The last time we fought him he pretty much defeated us, without much difficulty. So how do you plan on taking him down?” asked J’asira.

“He’ll be weakened. His cosmic status has been revoked, no matter what timeline he is in, he has been reverted to his base power level, perhaps even less after the removal of cosmic empowerment. If that isn’t enough of a weakened status, he now only has one arm.” Mentella explained.

“In that case I really hope he comes to Earth.” J’asira growled.

J’asira sighed and stretched slightly, a lazy but happy smile appeared on her face as she looked at her sister and her best friend.

“I’m glad you’re both back. We’re off to the labs for a few hours. We’ll see you later Mentella?”

Mentella smiled and nodded towards her younger sister. J’asira grinned at Sai’edra, tugging her along as they left. Sai’edra smiled at Mentella as she flew after J’asira.

-A FEW HOURS LATER-

Mentella sat in the library opposite Psion who was engrossed in a psychology journal article. She turned slightly as Sai’edra drew closer. Sai’edra looked down; briefly noting the data pad Mentella held in her hand, she was grading papers.

“Mentella, can I talk to you for a moment?” Sai’edra frowned.

“Of course, we have a few things to discuss. Shall we?” Mentella replied.

Sai’edra nodded quickly and nodded towards Psion who managed a small wave whilst still intently focusing on the article. Mentella switched off the data pad and stood up; they exited the library and made their way to Mentella’s office. As they stepped in the office door sealed behind them and Sai’edra moved over to the window and sighed in relief at the sight of the vast green space below that seemed to stretch on for miles. Mentella lightly tapped Sai’edra’s shoulder, gesturing for her to have a seat.

“When was the last time you drank something warm?” Mentella asked.

“A couple of months ago, before I was…taken by Elyisaus.” Sai’edra replied; her voice breaking slightly as she spoke.

Mentella nodded and disappeared into the small room to her right. Sai’edra sat down and stared at the floor, only lifting her eyes when a tray was set down on the small coffee table in front of her. On the tray were two china teacups filled with peppermint herbal tea, two silver teaspoons, a teapot filled with peppermint herbal tea and a small bowl filled with several sugar cubes.

“I hope you don’t mind peppermint herbal tea. It is useful for relaxing. If you are feeling tense, then I recommend you try some.” Mentella said.

Sai’edra watched as Mentella picked up the cup closest to her and closed her eyes. After taking a few sips opened her eyes and looked directly at Sai’edra.

“How have you been coping?” Mentella asked.

“I’ve…been doing okay. J’asira really helped me get better. She provided me with plenty of energy for internal healing and round the clock support, got to know her AI pretty well too. He’s got quite an attitude.” Sai’edra replied.

Sai’edra picked up the cup and brought it close to her face, cupping it with both hands as the peppermint scent filled her senses. Mentella paused as Sai’edra took a tentative sip from the cup; she grimaced and put the cup down, reaching for a sugar cube, popping it in and stirring it around before taking another sip. Mentella sat her cup down and looked at Sai’edra.

“So what did you want to discuss first?” she asked.

Sai’edra hesitated, taking a breath before replying.

“Did…did you ever get a chance to look into my head, after we got you out of that thing?”

“No. Without even entering your mind I can see that you have been exposed to severe psychic interference. What prevented you from activating your psychic shielding?”

“They kept me at death-like levels of energy; I couldn’t generate enough energy to remain conscious or cognizant most of the time. I’m so stupid, I should have listened when you suggested…” sighed Sai’edra.

“You had no idea this was going to happen, none of us did. You have no reason to blame yourself for what happened. I hope you understand that.”

Sai’edra nodded and looked down at her hands, a look of disappointment evident on her features. Mentella sat forward, picking up her cup and taking a few more sips before speaking.

“I could change the way your psychic shielding functions. How would you feel about that?” asked Mentella.

“How would it change?” asked Sai’edra

“It would be a constant construct in your mind, like the psychic barrier to your upper power levels. Although, it would no longer be under your control, it would exist to prevent all forms of psychic invasion or tampering.” Mentella explained.

Sai’edra sat up, her expression slightly hopeful as she listened to Mentella’s explanation.

“I’d like that…would it work even if I was unconscious?”

“Yes, it would. Before I carry out the necessary adjustments…I need to know the extent of the psychic interference and reverse whatever they might have been able to do to you.”

Sai’edra nodded quickly and tensed. Mentella sighed quietly as she moved back slightly in the chair.

“Relax. Calm your thoughts. Don’t think about anything. I’m going to access your memory system and I’ll work from there.” Mentella explained slowly.

“Wait. Will I be able to see the memories too? I…I don’t want to relive the whole thing. Please.” Sai’edra shuddered.

Mentella nodded and looked directly at Sai’edra.

“Understandable. I’ll shield your consciousness from the parts of your memory system I’m observing. You won’t see anything I’m currently viewing. Sit back and focus on reaching a meditative state. Once I’ve finished collecting information, I’ll begin the necessary surgery.”

Sai’edra nodded and closed her eyes, resting her head back on the chair, allowing herself to relax completely as Mentella took over.

A few minutes into the procedure Sai’edra opened her eyes, fighting against the impulse to ask something. She sat uncomfortably for a few moments until Mentella sighed and opened her right eye; the icy blue colours of her iris made Sai’edra feel as if she was staring right through her.

“You’d like to ask me a question…so do it.”

“Is it possible for you to…erase entire events from someone’s mind?” asked Sai’edra

“Yes, depending on the amount of time the event covered I could create false memories or seal off access to that section of the memory system in order to avoid problems where the person’s mind attempts to access memories which are no longer there.”

“Would I have any recollection of the events at all?”

“None whatsoever, I would erase all possible links to it that your mind has. Including conversations like this one. I could also alter the memories; erase the decidedly more traumatic elements. At this point in time, nothing has been removed, altered or implanted. I’m assessing the memories.” Mentella explained.

“I think…it would be better for my own health and for my focus if you removed them entirely. Just everything to do with…what you can see. I want to keep up to the part where I was taken by Elyisaus, after that I don’t want anything.” Sai’edra stated.

“What if your team mates ask questions later on? I understand that Delta has been and will be quite active but sooner or later curiosity will get the better of one or two and they may ask. What would you tell them then?” Mentella asked.

“That’s…the other thing I wanted to ask you about…” Sai’edra started.

Mentella’s other eye opened at this and she withdrew from Sai’edra’s mind. Sai’edra looked up as Mentella’s eyebrow arched elegantly, signalling her to continue.

“…I was hoping you would be willing to talk to them instead of me.” she finished.

Mentella blinked, looking almost confused for a moment until her usual stern expression returned.

“Sai’edra. What makes you think that I would even entertain the idea of having that sort of conversation with Delta?” asked Mentella.

“You make it sound as if you and Delta are not on the best of terms…what happened? What am I missing?” frowned Sai’edra.

Mentella sighed, leaning forward to pick up her teacup, she sat back and crossed her left leg over her right; she rested both the cup and the saucer on her knee, stirring the herbal tea whilst she spoke.

“After you were taken and the temporal effects wore off, there was a discussion turned argument between David, Daniel and I. It was to do with the laws on visiting Xen by non-native beings.” Mentella started.

“The laws are pretty straightforward…so I don’t see the problem?”

“Well, unfortunately my explanation fell on deaf ears. Prior to this, as you can imagine, Elyisaus made some less than pleasant comments about Earth and the inhabitants, which already had the intended effect of riling everyone up. After I spoke on the matter, Daniel became irritated by the stating of the law, and Ed’ran’s untimely and inappropriate comment sparked anger from David and he left, shortly followed by Daniel. They eventually returned and were more or less forced to accept the reality of the situation. Since then a few amongst the group have…questioned my role in the series of events leading up to your capture and subsequently my own.” Mentella continued.

“’Questioned your role’? As in you had something to do with this?!” cried Sai’edra incredulously.

“Yes. The main concern being bandied around is that I was ‘fully aware of what Elyisaus had planned and what was going to happen but lied about it’. Before you say anything, it is nothing to concern yourself over. If it comes up in conversation or I happen to be questioned about it I will respond accordingly. However, I do not want you mentioning this to anyone else, specifically not Ed’ran.” Mentella sighed.

“Alright, I’m not going to even touch that reasoning. So…does this mean you’ll talk to them about it?” asked Sai’edra.

“Yes it does, but if and only if they ask for more information regarding what happened to you.”

“What if they ask about you and Ed’ran?” asked Sai’edra.

Mentella sipped from the teacup, finishing off the warm herbal tea. She poured herself another cup and sat back, looking directly at Sai’edra whose frown deepened as she spoke.

“Delta has more pressing matters to consider than my wellbeing. If you really feel the need to discuss me you can tell them I’m back. Sai’edra, Delta is a great team for you to be with. Their concerns are directed towards me, not you. Remember that they are not privy to all the details so can only assume and draw conclusions from what they have witnessed. I do not want you to allow what I’ve informed you of to taint your view of your friends and team mates, nor do I want you to find a way to blame yourself. Is that clear?” Mentella stated.

“Yes, I understand but aren’t you going to talk to them for that alone?” asked Sai’edra.

“No, I honestly don’t see the need to. The blame needs to be placed on someone tangible, and relatively accessible. That person, at this point in time, happens to be me. If upon hearing that I’m still alive they want to ask questions or simply need my assistance with something unrelated, I’ll be more than happy to help.” Mentella replied.

“I’m going to be honest here…I don’t understand how you...I don’t understand you.” Sai’edra laughed.

A small smile appeared on Mentella’s face as she drank from the cup.

“You are by no means alone in that regard. Are you ready to resume the procedure? I can begin altering the memories now; once that has been accomplished I’ll work on your psychic shielding and general psychic health.”

Sai’edra nodded and relaxed back into the chair as Mentella sat her cup down and resumed the procedure, slowly allowing her consciousness to leave her as Mentella began working on her mind.
