History
The Early Years
Joan St. Claire was born to two extraordinary parents, each in their own way. Her mother was one of PRIMUS's most valuable agents, though she retired after her last mission, and the Great Dragon Flagellum. The two were in love since their (somewhat dangerous) encounter with each other in the deserts of northern Africa, a first for both, and after a year and a half of traveling the world, married and settled down in a small town in western Washington.
There they had two children, twins, Joan and Angela. Sadly the second twin was stillborn, and the doctors were unable to save the newborn. After the tragic loss of one of her children, Theresa decided never to tell her surviving child, and raised her without that fact ever coming to light.
For the first year everything went well, until suddenly Flagellum (under the name George) left, leaving Terry to raise her child alone, which she did to the best of her ability. Joan was somewhat of a... problem child, though, especially through school. She kept getting into fights with the other kids, but only if she viewed them as bullies, but outside of that was a shy, nerdy kid with very few friends until high school. Joan was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, along with anger management issues at an early age, and hasn't quite gotten over either.
The normality ended quickly though. On her 19th birthday, Joan went through what would be best described as "Dragonification", growing wings and scales across her body, along with gaining her trademark super-strength (though it wouldn't reach the point it's at now until much later). Her mother was forced to tell her their fathers true identity, and much more importantly, help her try and find shirts with wing holes in the back.
But life went on. the now dragon-y Joan continued onto college, and everything was just peachy, until...
Death of a Friend, Birth of a Hero
Joan had a small group of friends by the end of high school, and the one that stood out the most was a young man named Anthony Versetti. Joan viewed him as her best friend, maybe even her only REAL friend, along with having the biggest crush you could ever have on someone.
Her young and most likely unrecipricated love came to an end, sadly, when he was killed in an accident at school. A young super lost control of their powers (who they are is unknown). Joan herself almost died in the explosion, and was trapped under the rubble for hours until rescue crews came along.
Needless to say, this hit the half-dragon hard. Joan quit college, and for years just sleepwalked through life, until she decided enough was enough. No one else would die on her watch, she thought, and she decided to move to MC, to fight crime and save lives, something she's become very adept at.
Starting out, Breaking in (the door)
The first few weeks didn't go so well for our scaly companion. Joan hadn't really used her powers very often before then, maybe flying past traffic or something lifting something no one else could, but never to the same extent a hero normally would, and had to get used to her strange biology.
Westside was her first main area to patrol (and it remains one still), as her home was right next to the Downtown/Westside divide. At first she underestimated the gangs prowling the old parts of the city: what are guns and baseball bats gonna do to a dragon? Well, a lot more then she thought. But it was rewarding work to them, saving the innocent and making the city a better place.
Everyone needs a friend
Everyone asks the same two questions when they first arrive to MC: "Where can I get a drink", and "What's with that massive bright green tower in the Ren Center"?
And Now?
Personality
Joan's personality is sometimes all over the place, but one thing is very clear: she's a snarky lil' lizard. Making jokes at the worst times is what she does best. The other most obvious trait is her almost overbearing kindness to people she likes, and somewhat clingy nature to some friends (and especially lovers). She'd do anything for her companions, even if she very rarely lets them do things for her. Her laid-back attitude disappears during more stressful situations, and she becomes completely serious about the task at hand (well, most of the time), and acts like a pretty big jerk, even if she's not trying.
Joan despises very few things, but the one thing she can't stand is death. Killing of any sort, and even just a natural passing, is something she just cannot accept, and it really hits her hard when anyone close to her (or someone in general) bites it.
As gregarious as she seems, it's mostly just an act. Joan, while definitely a very nice person, is not a happy one, each smile obviously forced. She almost never laughs, and outside of combat her mood seems somewhat apathetic, minus the jokes.
Powers
Super Strength: Joan's strength puts many other heroes to shame. She's among the beefiest in the entire city (which is no easy feat). When pushing her limits, the dragon can lift up to 400 tons (!) And carry anything half that weight with relative ease. Joan normally limits herself in combat though, due to the fatal force a punch from her could generate.
Toughness: Joan's unique draconic physiology can tank some pretty heavy shit, from tank cannons to the blow of another super. She's almost impervious to most blunt force trauma, bullets (though higher caliber rifles can pierce her hide), The vacuum of space, and heat based attacks. She's also a brick wall to magic, as it just kind of "plinks" off her.
Flight: Pretty self explanatory, Joan's wings allow her to fly long distances, and just plain look neat.
Dragon smell: Joan's sense of smell is not only heightened past the usual human limit, but is also able to smell more then just fresh bread across the block. Her nose is able to pick up things like concepts, surface thoughts, emotions, and even someone's very soul. How it works, no one knows, but it comes in handy in many situations.
Claws: Instead of normal fingernails, Joan has five diamond-sharp claws on both hands. They make great can openers.
Abilities and Other
Weaknesses
Organic Weapons: Joan's insane resistances don't apply to any "living weapon", which include claws, teeth, nature magic, and anything that could count as such. Splinters hurt.
Gold: The bright expensive mineral we know and love burns our draconic friend on contact with exposed flesh, to the same extent of us touching molten metal.
Cold Blooded: Being half lizard, Joan's body temperature is lower then the average humans, making her much more vulnerable to freezing temperatures and ice based attacks.
Warm Hearted: A double edged sword in some ways, Joan's overwhelming desire to protect the innocent can be used against her, and she'll most likely walk into any trap using people as a lure.
50/50: Being half human, Joan still has to breath, eat, drink, sleep (though not as much) and everything else you and I gotta do to survive.
Curses
Another thing Joan inherited from her father was a myriad of curses. This includes her weakness to gold, a deathly allergy to popcorn and most painfully, the inability to feel or taste anything non-organic, that ISN'T dead.
