Background and Origin
Selene Delilah Carol was born to an average family in 1930. She grew up during World War II, the only matter of interest until she hit her high-school years. At this time, she and several friends discovered an old book describing an ancient, obscure religion involving sentient stars as deities. Being in a rebellious stage of their lives, the girls formed a 'circle' of sisterhood, all of them following this star religion. After the end of World War II, crime rates rose in America, and in 1947 the gang violence claimed one of their circle. Seeing the violence in the world, Selene and her friends found a ritual of prayer that could only be done a certain night of the year. They performed this ritual, begging their star deities to help them make the world a better place, to give them the means to save innocent lives. Nothing happened, and they eventually went back to their homes. A year later on the same night, they tried again, and a bright burst of light came from the sky, hitting Selene in the chest and knocking her down. Freaked out by the ordeal, the sisterhood went home and never met again. Selene never told any of them what happened.
Selene had been the only truly faithful one of her circle, and so her prayer had been heard and granted. How, she wasn't sure, but she innately knew that one of the star deities had given its life in order to bestow upon her the gift of power, power she could use to protect her world as she had begged. She did not know the true extents of her powers until she was in her mid-twenties and soon to be married. She had been saving people and keeping hidden so as to protect her family and friends, but she had not come up with a new persona, preferring to keep her existence a myth. However, one day she looked into a mirror and noticed something. Unlike her friends and family, she showed no signs of aging. Realizing that immortality was one of her powers, she decided she could not stay with her family or someone would find her out. Thus she formed the persona of Miss Starburst, using her innate ability to form a costume to hide her identity, something the star-deities foresaw she would need. She has been a hero since 1956 and is registered with PRIMUS and UNTIL
Powers and Abilities
Super Strength - Miss Starburst has enormous physical strength. She is capable of lifting over 100 tons without straining herself, and much much more when straining to her max.
Super Speed - Miss Starburst is capable of moving at superhuman speeds. This is entirely separate from her ability to fly. She is capable of dashing very short distances at speeds of up to Mach 10, and can punch at Mach 15 when straining herself. With a mixture of a burst-dash of superspeed while flying, at Mach 15, and a punch adding extra speed and force, she once delivered a Mach 20 punch, with a great deal of strain.
Flight - Miss Starburst can sustain a flight speed of Mach 10, and a over short-medium distances can reach up to Mach 15. However, when she leaves the atmosphere of a planet she is capable of reaching and potentially going beyond the speed of light.
Invulnerability and Resistances - Miss Starburst is nigh-invulnerable to any known material, and many forms of energy. She also especially resistant to corruptive forces, including Qliphothic energy, due to the purity that comes with being the avatar of a star deity. In addition, Starburst is entirely immune to the heat and radiation of stars, or any mimicked version of such. She is capable of surviving at high extremes of temperature in general, including being able to survive immersed in molten lava, and capable of surviving in temperatures as low as absolute zero (though she will of course freeze past a certain temperature and be unable to move). She can survive a nuclear explosion, though not entirely unharmed.
Regeneration - While not on par with many regenerators, Miss Starburst will heal most wounds she manages to sustain over the course of one or two nights.
Rituals - Miss Starburst knows a few rituals involving her star deities and can call for extra protection such as against mental attacks, or for seeking objects or people, among various other applications. These rituals often must be done on certain nights or certain times of day.
Immortality - Being the avatar of a deity has granted her eternal youth.
Weaknesses
Eclipses - Eclipses of either sort will cause Miss Starburst to not only lose her powers, but become weaker than she would be as a normal human. As the Eclipse begins, her powers gradually drain. Once the Eclipse is fully in place, she is half her human strength, often bedridden, for 24 hours. During the last hour she gradually gains her power back.
New Moons - During the new moon of the lunar cycle, Miss Starburst loses her powers. She gains them back when the next phase is fully in effect.
