The above is an example of one of the lines you'll see in the Edit window. This new 'wall of text' as you say, includes all the details required to display the icons, images, other formatting details etcetera. It's necessary, sorry, so you'll have to get used to it.

No worries though! Look at the last line of the example above. You see the "stamina|0"? That's what you edit with your character's information. For example, if your character has a stamina value of 5, change "stamina|0" to "stamina|5".
