Annie Fitzgerald
Anne Marie Fitzgerald was born in Hawaii, ten months after her brother, Kyle. Her role models were her fathers, Jacen and Tyler, her older brother, her Aunt Lila—her dads' best friend and and surrogate mother to both kids—and a wide community of surfers, artists, military men and women, and islanders. Jacen and Lila were in the military, while Tyler was a stay-at-home dad, a freelance graphic designer—and a druid.
The children grew up with a healthy understanding of the world and their place in it. Kyle was always stronger in the art than Annie was, and quickly surpassed his sister. For her part, Annie spent most of her time surfing, playing sports, and skating through her early classes with C's and D's. Of the two, Kyle was always the smarter and more driven; Annie enjoyed life day by day, and didn't get into nearly as much trouble as her brother did. When the siblings showed wildly disparate studying habits, Jacen and Tyler pulled them from school and focused on teaching them through community—friends and extended relatives, usually druids from Tyler's grove, volunteered to teach various subjects, and many was the class held on the beach or out on a catamaran.
A druid apprentices for 12 years, and Kyle and Annie were both eighteen when they received their tattoos, binding them to Gaia and signifying their successful learning period. It's a remarkably painful process, and one that becomes tolerable once the druid can ease the pain sensors with Gaia's help, but Annie wasn't all that great at druid magic on the fly. During her binding, something went a little bit sideways—although nobody present knows exactly what or how.
The end result is that Annie, third-rate druid and laid-back surfer girl, was chosen by or somehow became bound to the Morrigan—one of the Tuatha de Danann and arguably one of the more feared. Although it didn't affect Annie's skill, or lack thereof, whatsoever, it did cause a lot of panic in the very small Hawaiian druid community, and created something of a rift between those who accepted the Morrigan's choice, and those who called it a mistake.
Not long after, by chance or by choice, Jacen was transferred to Vibora Bay, and the family went with him. For the next five years, Annie finished her schooling and failed to go to college, whereas Kyle not only went to college but is working on a double-major involving architectural design and eco-conservationism.
