Biographical Summary
All-American patriotic girl Elizabeth "Libby" Forsythe is the daughter of Texas Republican Senator Andrew Forsythe.
She was head cheerleader in high school, a former Miss Teen Texas finalist and a competitive shooting champion.
She was born in France during a diplomatic trip, and had thus been granted dual citizenship, but later renounced her French citizenship because France had refused to join the War on Terror.
Libby moved to MC to study Political Science at MCU, but ended up quitting amidst rumors of inappropriate involvement with some of her professors.
She has managed to obtain and use on herself an experimental serum that greatly accelerates the body's metabolism from an ARGENT executive VP - a friend and supporter of her father's - with whom she allegedly had an illicit romantic liaison.
Now between fundraisers for her father's political campaigns, Libby dons her superheroine costume and becomes Lady Liberty, to fight for Justice, Freedom and the American Way!
Creator's Notes
This is my ultra-patriotic American character who was quite literally born on the 4th of July, since I decided to create it right after I obtained the Flag Speed travel power at the then one-day-only Independence Day Event of 2012. I really wanted to try it out but I had no existing character that could thematically use it nor would I have wanted to pay the prohibitive resource fee or blow a Retcon Token to retcon for it. As I was eager to create a new character in a hurry, not that much thought went into my initial concept; I originally wanted to call her "Liberty Belle" but the name was unavailable - a quick Google search revealed there was apparently not just one but three existing comic book superheroines I didn't know about by that name. So I went with Lady Liberty, not thinking that it would be a somewhat popular name and that I would eventually run into several other so-named heroines. I also initially decided to use the Force powerset, as I had not tried it yet aside from a couple powers like Force Shield and Inertial Dampening Field. But I later retconned for a Munitions build as I felt guns better embodied the essence of the American spirit. Now, full disclosure: I myself am not American, I'm Canadian, and whilst I am not anti-American, I do not look favourably upon many aspects of popular Americanism, and I find the right-wing, Red State, ultra-patriotic, socially conservative, fundamentalist Christian, imperialistic, chauvinistic and jingoistic Republican Americans to be extremely narrow-minded, hypcritical, ridiculous, and more often than not, downright scary. So, needless to say, I'm also a liberal, or as they would put it, a godless socialist.
This character embodies these right-wing aspects in a somewhat caricatural way, much like what Stephen Colbert does. In fact the best way I could describe Libby is start with an all American sweetheart and not-that-innocent Britney Spears type Southern belle cheerleader, add the serum-enhancement, the patriotism and American flag inspired costume of Captain America, throw in the firearms, careless attitude, moral ambiguity and the love of violence and eagerness to shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later of The Comedian, sprinkle in the extreme land velocity of The Flash, and serve slathered in a Stephen Colbert sauce of sarcastic irony.
But that being said, I think of Libby as being a real person, a product of her environment, who lacks enough self-awareness not to be burdened by cognitive dissonance over the inconsistencies of her actions in regards to her beliefs. But lack of self-awareness does not mean a lack of intelligence; Libby is not dumb, but will often play dumb, most likely without even realizing it, simply out of habit and living up to other people's expectations of her, a sort of coping mechanism, a way to appeal to the people in her life, especially to the males, and even more especially so to her father. In fact Libby is probably way smarter than she herself realizes.
Although I feel the D&D concept of Alignment is inherently flawed - people are far more complex in their motivations to be reduced to a single all-defining attribute - I still see the value of such an idea in the context of roleplay, and with Libby it becomes an interesting tool to delineate her personality. She likes to see herself as being Lawful Good, she especially loves for other people to see her that way, but deep down she is far from being that way. Libby would fit much better in the Chaotic Neutral alignment, like any spoiled princess would. Libby believes in "goodness" but having been raised to be very self-righteous, she already sees herself as being a "good girl" and as such quite incapable of not being good. When confronted with behaviour that clearly violates her beliefs she'll simply rationalize it with the notion that "nobody is perfect" or "everybody is a sinner" that behaving badly simply means having succumbed to the Devil's temptations and that repenting - just saying "sorry" to God - basically makes it all ok. Similarly Libby believes in the "Law" but will gladly take it in her own hands whenever she feels like it, and breaking it doesn't really phase her as if simply believing in lawfulness was the same as obeying the law.
A question arises: why roleplay such a character? To be honest I'm not quite sure, personality wise Libby couldn't be more different from me, she is the popular kind of girl I literally hated back in high school, but I do feel a perverse pleasure in putting myself in the mind of such a person. Libby is a guilty pleasure of sorts, meant originally as a kind of caricature, but one that became more fleshed out. I didn't originally think I would ever want to roleplay that character, in fact I did not even think I would actually level up this character beyond the first few levels, but I ended up doing so. When I created Libby's backstory I wanted to show a "little miss perfect" who perhaps wasn't so perfect after all, a gifted young woman who had enjoyed good looks, popularity, entitlement, wealth and privilege, but who had demonstrated a certain moral ambiguity in using any advantage at her disposal in her pursuit of getting what she wanted.
