Metamorphosis
Trevor's genome underwent significant alterations due to VIPER's experiments, resulting in the integration of reptilian DNA within his genetic structure. This reptilian genetic material remains dormant until triggered to manifest. Trevor demonstrates the ability to control this transformation to a certain extent. However, once he surpasses a critical threshold, his cognitive faculties deteriorate to the level of an animal, leading to a loss of sentience. Despite this drawback, Trevor experiences a corresponding increase in power, highlighting the trade-off inherent to his metamorphosis. The stages of his metamorphosis are:
- Stage 1 - Initially, Reptile maintains full control over his transformation, despite reduced intelligence. Despite being physically weaker than the following stages, this stage is highly efficient due to Trevor's conscious control over it. In this stage, Reptile's appearance takes on a reptilian, although still recognizably human, form.
- Stage 2 - In this stage, Trevor's animal instincts take over, causing him to lose control. His strength and speed are significantly enhanced, while he loses the ability to communicate and think on a human level. His body becomes even more reptilian in form, with his skull taking on a serpentine quality and his claws growing sharper and longer. In this stage, Trevor has gone on rampages that have ended in multiple casualties for VIPER hit squads.
- Stage 3 - The furthest witnessed stage of Trevor's metamorphosis, where he grows to a size of over 8 feet with extreme muscle mass. Stage 3 sees Reptile become a rampaging beast, driven solely by primitive instincts of hunger and self-defense.
Reptile, once past the initial stage of his metamorphosis, loses the ability to autonomously revert to his human form. Instead, he requires external intervention, either through being subdued or through complete exhaustion of his stamina, to trigger the reversal of the metamorphic process.
Regenerative Healing Factor: Reptile possesses a remarkable regenerative healing factor that allows him to rapidly recover from injuries sustained in both his human and reptilian forms. This ability enables him to heal wounds, mend broken bones, and regenerate damaged tissues at an accelerated rate, far surpassing that of an ordinary human. Even severe injuries that would incapacitate or prove fatal to others can be swiftly healed by his extraordinary regenerative abilities. Reptile also possesses greater than normal endurance due to this healing factor.
Enhanced Physical Capabilities: As Reptile enters the initial stage of his metamorphosis, his strength, agility, and endurance are significantly augmented, surpassing the capabilities of ordinary humans. At this stage, he exhibits a maximum lifting capacity of approximately 2 tons and is capable of achieving running speeds exceeding 90 mph. As the metamorphosis progresses through its stages, Reptile's physical capabilities undergo further augmentation. At stage 3, bullets fired by common firearms cannot penetrate his thickened hide, and he can tear through reinforced structures with ease.
Enhanced Senses: Reptile's senses are heightened, with superior visual, olfactory and auditory perception, enabling detection of subtle environmental changes.
Venomous Bite and Corrosive Saliva: Upon reaching stage 2 of his metamorphosis, Reptile acquires venomous capabilities. His bite induces paralysis, rendering adversaries immobile. Additionally, he can project corrosive sprays of acidic saliva.
Camouflage and Thermal Vision: At stage 2, Reptile also gains the ability to camouflage, blending seamlessly into his environment to make him undetectable to the naked human eye. Additionally, his eyes develop thermal vision, allowing him to track targets in darkness and obscured conditions.
