Saraia Ultear, later going by Sarah Ultear, is a High Tier S+ Ranked Auxiliary Shadow in the Black Legion, reporting to Elite Tier SS Ranked Outer Shadow Aaron "The God Eater" Hope. She is the current fiancee, and former ex-girlfriend to Aaron after reconciling with her Outer Shadow.
Formerly, the Hero of the Cursed Sword, Saraia led a life of exile and grief, born into a life destined to battle Demon Queen Noir in her world Kalidas. Due to being the strongest mortal in her world who could do battle against Noir's army, Saraia frequently found herself losing allies, as they were not strong enough to keep up. The pain of isolation and loss caused Saraia to forsake allies altogether, believing her life and purpose were meant to be fulfilled on her own. This would all change when Saraia met Aaron Hope - a human, if not like her fallen allies, but worse: a bumbling fool who only knew elementary magic. Aaron quickly became a pain in the backside for Saraia, the sounds of his guns clunking and clanking on his back frequently annoying Saraia and waking her up whenever she slept at night. To add salt onto the wound, was the fact that Aaron was incapable of pronouncing her name, frequently pronouncing it as "Sarah". However, to her disbelief, the "bumbling fool" became the first mortal who could not only keep up with the Hero of Kalidas but at times, surpass her.
When Aaron became the one to avenge Sarah's fallen allies and defeat Noir, Sarah was deeply saddened and angered. Believing that Aaron had denied her destiny, Sarah and Aaron's relationship became increasingly strained. This tension would be temporarily lessened after SS+ Ranked Inner Shadow Jun Gasket offered Sarah a place to become Aaron's Auxiliary Shadow (in exchange for a lifetime supply of donuts, Sarah's favorite food). In hopes of learning from Aaron and understanding how a mere human could be so strong, Sarah eventually learned that Aaron had reached this point through hard work and dedication, as opposed to the powers he was born with. This would improve Sarah and Aaron's relationship, slowly forming romantic feelings as Sarah continued serving as Aaron's Auxiliary Shadow.
Following an assassination mission gone awry, leading to the death of Aaron's Auxiliary Shadow June "The Jubilee" Lee Sung, Sarah, along with the rest of the Auxiliary Shadows was distraught. To deal with the grief, Aaron and Sarah started a physical relationship, making love frequently to offset the emotional pain of June's death. However, it soon became apparent to Aaron that the relationship was based on grief, and cut ties with Sarah, leading to the Auxiliary Shadow feeling abandoned, and deeply resentful of Aaron.
After reconciling with her Outer Shadow and discovering Aaron's deteriorating health due to the overuse of Noir's Magic alongside his immense injuries throughout his career, Sarah rejoined Aaron's ranks. When learning chakra alongside Aaron under the guidance of Inner Shadow John "Reaper" Crassman, Sarah became the first to unlock her chakra - through her feelings of true love for Aaron. When Sarah and Aaron fought against her biological sister, Sarina Ultear, it was revealed that Sarah was intended to be a demon serving under Noir, while Sarina would be the Hero to fight Noir. However, due to Sarah's inferiority complex, Sarah stole the role of Hero to feel stronger than her sister. The guilt of what she had done would come back to haunt her, as a psychologically broken Sarina pummelled her older sister. Aaron stepped in, proclaimed that he would support Sarah no matter what, and proceeded to fight off Sarina, causing her to temporarily retreat. Aaron then left the responsibility of fighting Sarina to Sarah, telling her that she now had another reason to become stronger.
Having a heart-to-heart with Aaron, Sarah revealed that she had severe inferiority complexes which continued to manifest as she watched Aaron accomplish extraordinary feats that would otherwise have been impossible for a regular human being to attain. Believing herself to not be worthy of being Aaron's girlfriend, Sarah fell into despair, however, Aaron rebuked Sarah's claims, telling her that he liked her for who she was and was willing to accept her shortcomings as long as she made the effort to change it. Following this, Aaron then proposed to Sarah, asking her to be his wife once Vala was defeated. Sarah accepted Aaron's proposal and has since become his fiancee, with their marriage to happen once the threat of Vala is over. Sarah's relationship with Aaron has advanced to the point where Sarah wishes to bear a child for Aaron, with her dream being able to start a family with her future husband after the threat of Vala is over.
Appearance
Sarah is described by Aaron to be both beautiful and powerful, possessing an athletic "curvy" figure as well as an aura akin to a composed assassin. According to Aaron, Sarah's build is "petite" and "slender", standing 5 foot 5 inches. Sarah possesses straight medium-length lavender-colored hair which falls to her shoulders and large golden eyes. After her first battle against the Vala Empowered Hero of the Dual Cleavers Andrew "Tourmentus" Tengen, Sarah temporarily had a large scar that reached the side of her face. This scar eventually faded with Sarah's healing magic. Aaron states that Sarah's eyes almost always seem "devoid of life", most likely from the emotional pain Ultear had been forced to undergo throughout the series. This apathy and aloofness cause Sarah to be rather unapproachable, despite her attractiveness.
As a Hero of Kalidas, Sarah frequently sports adventurer attire: a large black robe with white trim that shrouds her shoulders on top of a military green belly shirt. Although the shirt initially was zipped up, Sarah began leaving the shirt unzipped, revealing a black sports bra and partly exposing her cleavage after witnessing Aaron experience a noseblood upon unzipping it the first time in Andropol - hinting that he found Sarah attractive when she left her shirt unzipped. Sarah also wears a pair of black leggings which possesses arcane circuity and runs across her thighs, likely a sign that the leggings are magically reinforced. Along her thighs are several straps that house additional knives and weaponry.
On her back, is her legendary cursed hero sword, Ygviil, a large greatsword which is even larger than Yeling's Tatsu. Despite its size and weight, Sarah is capable of wielding the sword and executing extremely fast techniques due to her immense strength as a Hero.
Sometimes in battle, Sarah is also seen wielding a pair of Obsidian Knives, a pair of large knife blades that allows her to execute even faster attacks - though not as damaging as Ygviil. Sarah may also wield the Artemis Whip to dispatch large groups of enemies.
When not in combat, Sarah wears a hairclip with an ornament of the Topaz Swallowtail, an avian species that once perched in Sarah and her sister's house before the two became Hero and Demon, respectively, in Kalidas. The hair clip was a gift that was handcrafted by Aaron - a piece that Aaron spent many hours making (twice after the first one ended up in a gutter). Due to the many hours spent and the thoughtfulness of her fiancee's gift, Sarah deeply cherished the hairclip, only wearing it when not in battle to avoid getting it damaged or dirty.

On the exterior, Sarah is highly composed. Goal-oriented, and focused on her enemy. This level of concentration was such that many in Kalidas dubbed her "The Blank Saviour", as Sarah appeared to only ever have two expressions: apathy, and rage.
As Aaron began to spend more time with Sarah, Sarah slowly began opening up to new emotions she never knew she had. The ridiculousness of Aaron's shenanigans caused Sarah to become more unhinged, frequently freaking out in a comedic manner and being flustered whenever Aaron complimented her beauty. Despite Aaron's annoying antics, Sarah tolerated Aaron, as she discovered that he only knew Elementary Magic in its barest form. Sarah mentored Aaron, teaching him Summoning Magic and the Convocatio chant, then later taking on the role of his magic teacher and showing him further refinements to his Augmentus and Aspectum spells. All of these spells would eventually become Aaron's most used spells in future battles.
When Aaron refused to leave Sarah's side despite her history of having her comrades perish due to her path of bloodshed against Noir's army, Sarah was incapable of suppressing her fear of losing yet another comrade. Sarah berated Aaron for stubbornly sticking to her side and tried to force him to abandon her, however, Aaron's refusal ultimately added to her accumulating frustration. When Aaron criticized Sarah's recklessness, this frustration caused Sarah to break, causing the Sword Hero to cry for the very first time.
After Aaron had defeated Noir, Sarah became resentful, as she believed she was the one meant to defeat the Demon Queen after all the people and Sarah's allies Noir had slain. However, when Sarah became Aaron's Auxiliary Shadow, Sarah began following the Outer Shadow and slowly learned of the origin of Aaron's incredible combat power. As Sarah learned more about Aaron, her feelings of resentment eventually turned to feelings of respect, and later, feelings of romance after realizing the type of character Aaron was - someone who would go to incredible depths to protect and cherish his subordinates and his friends.
When Aaron led his Auxiliary Shadows to battle against Jekyll, the God of Warfare, the god proved too much for the S+ Ranked Outer Shadow and his B Rank Auxiliaries. Aaron's failure to understand his team's strength would prove costly, as Jekyll claimed the lives of one of Aaron's Auxiliary Shadows - June Lee Sung. The death of June deeply shook every one of Aaron's comrades, sending Aaron and Sarah into a psychological spiral into despair. To cope with June's death, Aaron and Sarah unwittingly started a purely physical relationship, making love every night to desperately try and offset the feelings of guilt and pain. Although Sarah was aware that her feelings of pleasure and momentary happiness from being intimate with Aaron were wrong, she still indulged in them, her feelings for Aaron growing stronger and stronger with every night Aaron made love to her. However, these feelings were not reciprocated, as Aaron soon realized that he was taking advantage of Sarah and his vulnerable state for a relationship built off of a brittle foundation such as guilt. Angered with himself, Aaron broke off all ties with Sarah, ignoring her and ending the relationship abruptly. The next time Aaron formerly addressed his Auxiliary, was when he assigned Sarah to look after Queen Diana Avarice in Andropol.
Heartbroken and betrayed, Sarah's feelings of lust and romance for Aaron quickly returned to feelings of resentment and rage. Apathy and emptiness soon flooded her mind, and the Blank Saviour returned once more, in spite of all the kindness Diana tried to provide to her.
During the events of He Saves Gods as a Man, the relationship between Sarah and Aaron is revisited. Aaron heads to Andropol to check on Diana, completely oblivious and seemingly forgetful that he had dispatched Sarah to look after her. When Sarah and Aaron reunited, Sarah insulted Aaron by calling him annoying, to which Aaron snapped back by calling her a "bitch", to which Sarah responded by nearly breaking Aaron's fingers. The bickering between the two continued until Aaron revealed what he thought about Sarah - that he believed that Sarah didn't care about Aaron and her team members. Angered at Aaron's warped view of her, Sarah retorted by saying that she was this way because Aaron had left her after everything he had done to her. The two's arguing eventually ended when Sarah discovered that Aaron had been hiding the fact that his body was slowly succumbing from his years of life-threatening injuries and the overuse of Noir's Demon Level Magic - a magic that ended up being transplanted into his grimoire when Sarah failed to defeat Noir herself. Upon realizing this, Sarah cast aside her feelings of resentment toward Aaron and quickly came to his aid, even kissing him to get her ex-boyfriend to listen to reason. Sarah's concern for Aaron's well-being becomes pivotal in her development.
When Aaron was bullied by Inner Shadow Jay Hellion, Sarah stepped in and even went as far as to blackmail the overwhelmingly powerful Inner Shadow, who had petrified even Aaron - by threatening to expose Jay for attempting to force Sarah into nonconsensual intercourse. Sarah's devotion to Aaron became further reinforced, when Inner Shadow John Crassman attempted to strike Aaron with his overwhelming Emission Ki - his Aura of Death. Sarah jumped in and intercepted the blow with Ygviil, resisting it with all her might, eventually collapsing and experiencing violent spasms from overexerting her body to protect the man she loved.
Sarah's feelings of love for Aaron finally manifested in their truest form when she unlocked Chakra control before Aaron did - Emission Ki through the Aura of Passion. Unknowingly, it was Sarah's love for Aaron that allowed her to gain mastery of Chakra and push her ranking from B Rank to High Tier S+ Rank.
After Sarah and Aaron's battle against Sarah's younger sister, Sarina Ultear, Sarah revealed that she suffered from severe inferiority complexes: inferiority complexes toward her sister leading to her stealing Sarina's destiny as the Sword Hero of Kalidas, then the feelings of inferiority to Aaron for, despite being stronger than him, being incapable of accomplishing the same level of feats as him. Sarah confessed that while she was indeed deeply in love with Aaron, she felt she didn't deserve someone as incredible as the God Eater due to her shortcomings. However, when Aaron rebuked her claims by asking Sarah to become his wife, Sarah's feelings of inferiority slowly transitioned into feelings of gratitude.
Since becoming Aaron's fiancee, Sarah has taken the role of a "wife" to the Outer Shadow, frequently caring for him and berating Aaron for his recklessness. When Aaron was critically injured in his second encounter with Jekyll, Sarah nursed her future husband back to health, and never left his side, even going as far as to learn how to cook for his sake despite declaring that a Hero would not need to lower herself to the level of a "kitchen slave". Aaron's trust in Sarah grew to the point where he revealed his past to her, his foster siblings, and how they were killed by Avara. When Aaron lost confidence in himself and admitted he was terrified of facing Jekyll after two consecutive defeats in a row, Sarah responded by thanking Aaron's mentors: Will and Nora for raising an "incredible person".
Sarah has been prone to freakouts in a comedic manner; usually in response to the ridiculousness of Aaron or Bryce, not hesitating to beat the two into a pulp whenever their antics get out of hand. When Vicki undressed in front of Aaron, Robbie, and Bryce, Sarah became distraught, screaming at Vicki for being indecent despite the Reincarnation being unaware of the impact her nakedness was having on the boys. Sarah later freaked out at Vicki when Vicki attempted to provide Aaron and Robbie with a Reality Anchor by making out with them - in Aaron's case, Sarah became so angry that she began shaking her husband-to-be "like a bobblehead".
Sarah's rage also manifests comedically through her Chakra Aura, frequently whenever Aaron is involved with (unintended) lewd acts with other women. When Sarah discovered that Aaron had buried his face in Valerian Scarlet in what he thought was supposed to be a mana transfer, Sarah's Chakra Aura was so monstrous and threatening that Aaron tried to use Electricity Magic to run away from his future wife. Sarah then proceeded to tie Aaron up with her Artemis Whip as punishment.
Outside of her missions and adventuring, Sarah's hobbies include collecting hair accessories (in secret), though at times, is saddened by the fact that her hair is virtually unstylable due to being permanently straight. When Aaron gifted Sarah a handcrafted Topaz Swallowtail hairclip, Sarah was so deeply touched by her fiancee's dedication to making her happy that she almost always wore the hairclip outside of duty, and would always keep it safe in battle to avoid getting it dirty.
Sarah also has a comedically large addiction to donuts, as the only reason why she became an Auxiliary Shadow was a lifetime supply of donuts provided by Jun Gasket. Aaron frequently bribes Sarah with donuts to get her to listen to reason, or to rope her along in his antics to prank the other Outer Shadows alongside her Auxiliary Shadow colleagues.
It was also revealed later in the story that a large part of Sarah's insecurities stems from Aaron's views of her. The reason why Sarah began unzipping her belly shirt was that she had once exposed her cleavage to Aaron in Andropol, giving him a nosebleed. Realizing that Aaron found her attractive with her shirt unzipped, Sarah since then kept her shirt open despite being slightly embarrassed at her more exposed appearance. When Aaron proposed to Sarah, her first instinct was to doubt Aaron as she felt insecure about not being Aaron's ideal type of girl since she herself was only 5 foot 5 (not tall), had purple hair (not blonde), and was for the most part, socially awkward (not flirtatious).
