Lewis Anthony Greer was the Deputy Squad Leader of Squad Four in the Contingency Initiative before its downfall. An introverted, hardheaded, and confrontational individual, Lewis was considered one of the more intelligent operatives in Squad Four, and possibly in the entire organization. With his evo, Lewis was also considered the strategist of the group due to his unorthodox and insightful ways to utilize his eye beams in combat. Because of this, Lewis was ranked and compared amongst the likes of the strongest Squad Four members such as Yeling Mah and Matthew Lam despite lacking a Dogma of Equivalent Exchange.
During the events of Part IV, Lewis was killed by Yuyan Danny Zheng's blade of Yama, dying in Yeling's arms. Lewis was the last member of Squad Four who did not possess a Dogma of Equivalent Exchange to be killed off by Transplant.
Biography
Lewis was born to Natalie Greer and an unnamed father, but for reasons unknown, Natalie was forced to raise Lewis along with his two older sisters, Elsa and Mandy Greer all on her own. Due to the immense poverty the family had to endure, the two daughters agreed to sell themselves off to slavery to allow their baby brother and mother to survive. Because of this, Lewis never knew his older sisters well, and could only remember fond memories of them from when he was a child.
Natalie would force herself to work for the CAPITAL, as her financial state and social status rendered her unable to find work in New Ulysses. Natalie was initially rejected from job opportunities due to her low class, but was eventually given an opportunity due to her situation. Unfortunately, because of this, Natalie was subjected to cruel and harsh work conditions out of the amusement of the higher executives of the company. At some point, Lewis stated that Natalie had lost three fingers due to overwork, dangerous work hazards, and sleep deprivation having to raise Lewis all on her own. Natalie would continue to work for the CAPITAL until she died from exhaustion.
When the Pax Incident occurred, the energy of the explosion flooded the entire city of New Ulysses, granting certain citizens Evolved Superhuman Abilities, dubbed Evos. The night a young Lewis learned of his mother's death, Lewis stared at the copy and pasted apology letter which was mailed to his home regarding Natalie, the shock and rage of realizing that the apology letter was not genuine, and was in fact a copy pasted template caused Lewis to not blink for two minutes. During this time interval, the energy of the Pax Incident Explosion entered his eyes, which were fully wide and received all of the energy during the span of the entire incident, giving him the ability to generate intricate energy wavelengths from the cells of his retinas.
Discovering this new ability, Lewis attempted to enter the CAPITAL headquarters and kill Mister Sand, one of the executives of the CAPITAL who directly managed Natalie's working conditions, but his evo was incapable of breaching the CAPITAL's defences, as the organization had cut salaries of all the low waged workers to build enhanced security systems against the threat of a evo riot. Lewis would be on the run from authorities, until he was saved by Matthew "The Mirage" Lam, who recruited him into Squad Four.
Personality
Lewis has repeatedly been complimented for his intricate planning and strategy in battle and missions as well as his pragmatic but impatient attitude when it comes down to tasks. Due to his ability to come up with planning, and his above average intelligence, Lewis developed lazy habits of taking shortcuts to everything, and eventually not going on missions altogether. During the events of Part I, Lewis was always seen inside his room playing video games or watching videos on his computer. Lewis recognizes if a mission is too hard for him, and does not hesitate to not participate, implying that he is very well aware of his limits despite the versatility of his evo. Lewis' "shortcut finding" habits also causes him to be rarely seen outside of his room, even during days where he is responsible for grocery shopping for Squad Four, Lewis would rather order the groceries online than go out and purchase them in person.
Lewis has been seen consistently bantering with other members of Squad Four, with Whitney "Wendigo" Houndstooth being a particular case due to their conflicting stances on relationships. Lewis frequently refers to her as a "thot" due to her countless attempts to seduce Squad Leader Matt despite the uncountable number of hookups she has had. Lewis has at times uttered racial remarks about Yeling's Chinese background to convey a point across, often whenever he is frustrated. Despite this, Lewis cares deeply for each member of Squad Four, and was so devastated by their deaths to Danny that he abandoned his lazy lifestyle to work hard and become Focal, increasing his rank for A Class to SS+ Class, surpassing a Stage Two Tidalflame. Another testament to Lewis' concern for other members of Squad Four is his protectiveness and unhesitance to scold Yeling. Either on his stance of relationships or whenever his confidence wavers during critical battles.
The most defining trait of Lewis, which has constantly been clowned on, is his views on women. Lewis was an incel, due to his hostile views on women, as he believed women all fall for a toxic male demographic. However, in Part II during Yeling's flashback, it was revealed that this was due to Lewis' feeling of loneliness and being unloved, feelings which he passed onto Yeling by pointing out his facial deformity.
After the time skip, Lewis' personality was altered significantly. Especially his incel like nature. Moments before his death, Lewis apologized to Yeling, admitting that his views on women were wrong, and that ultimately, Yeling would find someone who loved him, "even if it takes a thousand years".
Of all the members of Squad Four, Yeling was most attached to Lewis. In the battle against Aelienne, Lewis was the reason Yeling managed to summon the confidence to face her again, despite being completely overwhelmed with the more superior Hinokami user, pointing out that despite being one without a Dogma Bargain, he did not let his setbacks get in his way, and that the only thing he could do was use everything and move forward.
