A bright mind from an early age, Anjali Simcoe had an insatiable curiosity about all things mechanical. Her drive and passion for machinery steered her academic pursuits toward nanotechnology and engineering. Through research placements and internships, she acquired an impressive skillset and depth of knowledge.

Her talents attracted the attention of Charleston Electrodynamics, a leader in the manufacture and design of powered armor for military and disaster response applications. She was set to work on what was ostensibly a new power armor for the US airforce codenamed "Project Sidewinder". The project leaders quickly found themselves out-staged in a matter of months as Anjali dove head-on into her work. Project Sidewinder grew by leaps and bounds with her on board, and soon thereafter a working prototype suit came to be.

Her time at Charleston Electrodynamics came to a screeching halt when an email was erroneously addressed to her. The "Airforce" representative scheduled to inspect the suit the following day was in fact a member of VIPER. After confirming her suspicions with subterfuge, and a little good ol' fashioned breaking and entering, her path was laid clear before her. Refusing to let "her baby" be used to terrorize people all over the world, Anjali donned the power armor and levelled the facility - erasing all mention of Project Sidewinder.
