Becoming a Hero
While it is well-known that Katalyst is indeed a hero, she almost never tells the tale of her "inspiration"; she was never gifted with any truly superhuman abilities.
"Look, can we take this elsewhere? I'd rather speak in a much more private location than this if I absolutely must tell you what happened."

It had taken a lot of convincing, but herein lies her response...
A Troubling Childhood
Born outside of Millennium City and raised within its limits, the first six years of her life were generally typical for a tomboyish little girl. She loved to rough-house, play with her pet puppy, run laps around her yard, and just generally do things that a young girl could love doing. In the seventh year of her life, her entire world was turned inside out.
Nine days after her seventh birthday, her family got a sinister phone call from a friend: "You guys have to move out of there... Out of state, something! I don't know who did it, but there's somebody after your family... Please, you must leave!" It was the last Katalyst ever heard from them. The friend had chosen to move somewhere far away just four days later, out of state.
On the third week after her birthday, they came.
A squad of mafia men, dressed in pure black and white, armed with rifles and pistols. They banged on the front door, readying to knock it down. Told to hide and stay silent, Katalyst climbed her way up into the rafters of her home, hiding behind beams, and was forced to watch the two groups down below. All of the men fired on them, and a brutal slaughter ensued. Every one of her close family members, even the poor puppy, was massacred. After radioing to a superior that the family was dead, they left the house a bloody mess.
As she climbed down, all she could think was: None of them are getting away with this!
To this day she is still unsure of the motive behind their attack: "I've just never understood why they would do that; my family wasn't rich, we didn't have ties to anything even remotely important, and the only people close to us were in the same situation...."
A Time to Learn
One month later she was adopted, and her life resumed as if nothing ever happened. But the memory of the murder stuck in the back of her mind. She'd get back at them, somehow. Even so, she tried her best to keep her past hidden and do her best in school. She graduated from high school with a 6.38 grade point average, and moved on to major in mechanical engineering.
Throughout both high school and college, she took martial arts classes to keep healthy, but after seeing enough heroes rescue civilians on television, she chose to go after something more. She sought out a special facility that she had heard of from -REDACTED-, and enlisted in the hidden classes found there. The training she endured was brutal, harsh, and extensive, but ultimately gave her the fighting prowess she has now.
The Technology
All of Katalyst's gear was actually made by her hands and she takes pride in the end results of her work. She continues to edit her equipment on a daily basis, and can seemingly add a new feature to her equipment every month. Possibly the greatest note about her equipment is that she edits things in secret, without aid. Her primary two pieces of equipment that she keeps with her at all times are the S.P.E.E.D. and the K.E.B.
The S.P.E.E.D
The SPEED, meaning Specialized Personal Exoskeletal Enhancement Device, is the suit that Katalyst drafted the designs of while she was still in school. Initially scrapped, the design was recreated after she decided to step into the role of a protector of innocents.
The suit is her sole source of any meta-human abilities that she's "developed" over time.
Current Combat-Related Abilities
- Super-speed (AKA: Light speed)
- The light trail emitted is caused by the lights on her armor dragging behind her.
- This primarily affects only her legs, so that she still has very good control of her arms while moving.
- Super-Strength
- The armor-suit's design alone gives it the ability to withstand massive weights that could crush most beings.
- She's been known to help load freight containers onto ships.
- Energy Projection
- The suit is capable of manipulating pure energy in small bursts. She often uses this to off-balance her opponents.
- Can use more energy the closer her suit is to her target. Due to this, she can project a minor dampening field around her temporarily.
- Durability Boost
- While she herself is only resilient as any human could be, her armor does grant her much more endurance in combat, and as such can take significantly longer to bring down.
Current Non-Combat Abilities
- Teleportation
- Her short-range teleporter is completely stable, and can move her roughly 10 yards at a time.
- Her long-range teleporter was finished only recently, capable of inaccurately teleporting several miles at a time.
The K.E.B
The Kinetic Energy Blades are the twin energy swords Katalyst uses to force enemies into submission. Though they don't appear to be that advanced, they possess many different functions and a few features:
- The metallic guard on the blade is currently questionite-reinforced steel.
- The default setting on the blade is to stun, to prevent killing criminals.
- The stun gives a high-voltage shock to cause the victim to fall unconscious.
- It also possesses an energy-blade setting, allowing it to function similar to a "lightsaber" from Star Wars, and is capable of cutting through Neutronium.
- The swords can compress down and be sheathed in the bracers of the SPEED.
Trivia
- Although she was created by a purely unique idea, she evolved to possess quite a few references.
- Her "glowing visor" that gathers information is based off of the Scan Visor from the Metroid Prime trilogy.
- The black jumpsuit she wears resembles the Zero Suit from Metroid games
- Her armor's ability to directly "teleport" onto her is, yet again, another Metroid reference.
- She leaves a Tron-like trail when she runs, and is said to run at Sonic speeds.
- She is one of the few truly human "superheroes" in the Champions universe (in proportion to all other types of heroes.)
- Something caused her to have a fear of heights, and it kept her from developing a jet pack or rocket boots.
