History
Funk can't remember if he started out as a man, some vagabond kidnapped by Moreau's agents to be turned into a skunk, or a lowly skunk who was given the shape of a man. Either way, he was one of many manimals on Monster Island, one of a handful of skunk models designed to wield powerful bio-chem sprays as a form of ranged weapon. He was one of many to rebel against Moreau and form their own peaceful society. Earning the nickname 'Funk' from his peers, he was a scout and defender of his village, but remained somewhat on the fringe of the society, a loner and outcast frequently the target of jokes about his natural 'talent'.
Eventually, he would grow tired of the island, and met a new friend in the peacock manimal named Chrom. Together, they decided to leave the island for the States, specifically the enchanting land known as 'Millenium City'. They came into contact with UNTIL, who sent the manimal Wildeye, a member of the Protectors of the World, to handle their case. Funk was given a briefing on the transition off the island and all he would need to do; after much paperwork and slow moving, he immigrated to the States with his friend and together found an UNTIL sponsored apartment.
Unfortunately for Funk, even human society had a hard time accepting a giant skunk with an attitude. Frustrated, he took to the fringes of the city and prowled the streets at night looking for a purpose. He found it when a few punks were beating up a homeless man. After hosing them down and scaring them off, he earned the gratitude of the man and realized, well, it was pretty fun. So Funk now prowls the night away from polite society, protecting others who have been left in the streets and gutters from those who would find them easy pickings.
Personality
Funk is a very coarse and gruff individual, thanks to being treated as an outsider for most of his life. It's his defense against isolation, complete with a gross sense of humor, penchant for hard drink, and blunt manner of speaking. He doesn't particularly care if anyone likes or dislikes him; if they take him as he is, he's cool with them. This is best seen in his friendship with the peacock Chrom, whom he regards as his best friend. He likes to get into brawls without care for his safety, always ready to throw down when crime rears its head, for the sake of a good fight just as much as stopping bad guys.
His tendency to jump into things without thinking can get him into trouble, and often needs a cooler head to steer him in the right direction. His natural suspicion of other people also makes it hard for him to socialize, a real problem when it comes to integrating him into modern society. Still, those that earn his friendship earn a friend for life, provided they can put up with his bad habits. He is passionate about looking out for those forgotten by others, like the homeless, the addicted, the lost. Many times he is bitter about being the one that works around the clock to make sure they aren't targeted by heinous predators, but never hesitates despite that.
Powers and Skills
As a manimal, Funk has enhanced reflexes, speed and strength compared to a normal human, but not as much as a superpowered being. He has claws he can use to great effect, when he doesn't have to pull his punches. Recently he has learned to fight in close quarters more effectively, and has considered even going beyond into martial arts training. He heals slightly faster than the average human, as well.
But his main power is his skunk spray. Located where you'd expect, he uses it for crowd control, able to incapacitate several humans at one blast and make the rest go running scared. If needed, he could stop a riot cold. He can focus the spray in one blast or several smaller ones depending on the situation. He even sometimes does handstands to get at aerial foes.
