A Kind Heart In a Fragile Body.png

From her earliest years, Phoebe was a child defined by her gentle nature and boundless curiosity. Born with a rare degenerative disease that slowly robbed her of the ability to walk, she spent most of her childhood in a wheelchair, watching the world from a distance. Though her body was frail, her mind was sharp, and she had a deep love for learning. Surrounded by stacks of books, science kits, and chemistry sets, she nurtured a dream of someday helping people, believing that science held the power to change lives and even heal her own broken body.

While others might have been hardened by their circumstances, Phoebe’s challenges only strengthened her empathy. She often volunteered to help other patients in the hospital, reading to them, assisting doctors with simple tasks, and comforting those in pain. She dreamed of becoming a scientist, someone who could use her discoveries to ease suffering. But her condition grew worse over time, and as her disease progressed, it began to sap her strength and independence. By her late teens, she was almost entirely reliant on machines to support her body, struggling against the feeling that she was becoming more isolated and trapped within herself.

When traditional treatments failed, Phoebe made the bold decision to take her future into her own hands. She spent her days studying biology, neurology, and genetic engineering, eventually designing a formula she called Neurogen-9—a serum meant to stimulate cellular regeneration, repair neural pathways, and even enhance her physical abilities. Neurogen-9 was her final hope, her own creation that could save her from the fate her disease had set for her. But without the ability to test it properly, Phoebe was gambling with her life, risking everything on a desperate act of self-experimentation.

The first doses seemed to work; she felt strength returning to her limbs, newfound energy coursing through her body. But as her physical abilities grew, so did darker, unintended side effects. Neurogen-9 was far more volatile than she had anticipated. Her muscles strengthened beyond human limits, her skin hardened, and her body mutated in ways that were as alarming as they were empowering. Horns began to grow from her skull—large, ram-like horns that twisted back above her head, and her hair transformed into living, serpentine tendrils, each with its own sentient awareness.

The serum had not only mutated her body but fractured her mind. A series of distinct personalities emerged within her psyche, each embodying different aspects of her being. Some personalities were nurturing and compassionate, while others were vengeful, merciless, and power-hungry. Phoebe struggled to hold onto her original self as these personalities battled for control, each with their own influence over her thoughts and actions.
