Head Space
Born 13 February 1898 Doctor Mannheim was a German Scientist and Engineer who during WW2 was forced to work for the SS creating diabolical devices to be used against the Allies. Mannheim was a descendent of Johann Conrad Dippel a mad scientist that he was actually born near Darmstadt, Germany in castle Frankenstein. He is rumored to have been the inspiration for Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein".
After the war, Mannheim was relocated to the USA as part of Operation Paperclip. In 1974 at the age of 76, Mannheim was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Unwilling to simply give in to nature, the Doctor used his skills to build a special tank which could support a human brain outside his body while allowing it to communicate via an electronic voicebox. Knowing his end was near and his body weak, Mannheim was however still very strong willed and managed to persuade his assistant to perform the procedure to his transplant his brain to it's new home.
Although the tank allowed Dr Mannheim to continue to provide his knowledge and expertise to his colleagues, it meant that he was stuck there in the laboratory like a piece of equipment unable to interact with the world; just awaiting the next problem to arrive. He did find however that in this form he was perhaps even more persuasive than previously. Putting his engineering knowledge to the task, Mannheim provided plans for a device he named S.P.A.C.E - Single Person Armored Chassis Experiment. Ostensibly an armored suit for hazardous environments the US Military snapped up the idea. After obtaining one of the prototypes Mannheim was able to have various cybernetics and servo devices added along with a more compact and updated version of his life support tank which was installed on the suits upper torso. The junior technicians in his laboratory took to calling him Head Space behind his back, a nickname which stuck.
