Sophia Dream grew up in the rich, mixed culture of Vibora Bay. Learning to love life and above all else care for family and friends, she was happy in her early years. Her story; the road she takes to greatness starts like many others, when everything changed and something she loved from stripped from her.
The bay of Vibora had changed much since the days of her fondly remembered childhood; back then, everything was so warm and everything was a reason to celebrate. Though too young to really understand, she still loved the street parties and events often happening somewhere in the bay. All this ended with the advent of the gangs.
Small at fist, careful even, the gangs grew from smaller seeds reminiscent of super-villains and empowered people. In truth this is where a great deal of their strength came from, mystical, technical or otherwise, the gangs each had found a niche to exploit.
Even then, there were heroes to battle the evil of the gangs. The competition started out simply enough, good vs. bad, the out-come to decide which of chaos or order would rule over Vibora. All too many of the battles swayed either one way or another; with heroes such as Dr. Ka and Black Mask trying to fight off the never ending tide of power hungry miscreants, on occasion they were forced to admit defeat such as the terrible dawn of Cirque De Sinister and the finding of the Janus Key. Now though, as then the forces of chaos would not hold onto their power for long.
The struggle however goes on. The gangs of Vibora seeking power and strength from much darker forces, they are getting stronger each day. And here is where the girl who lost her parents came in; a girl bereft of the love she had embraced, a girl with much potential she is only just discovering.
Sophia now fights on the side of good in this evolutionary struggle; using whatever means at her disposal to try and make Vibora Bay the place she knew and loved, free of the tyranny of the gangs and the fear of their cruelty.
Her efforts have earned fear of their own in her adversaries. Dubbed The Dream Girl by the gangs of Vibora, it is a moniker she has embraced and wears proudly as she tries to put things right in her home.
Underfire and the Nightmare World
The Dream Girl came into her own only a few years ago. Discovering her innate talent quite by accident, she quickly learned a great deal about the basics of magic.
At the age of sixteen, Sophia found quite by chance an old leather-bound book in some second hand store of oddities. The store-owner assured her that no harm would come from reading it, yet that was the first lie told through a smile. Upon reading the text, she opened a portal to another world; a world where another Sophia Dream lived and fought.
The world she found there though was a twisted mirror of her own, the Sophia she found there even more so. It is as if all the imperfections of the place had stemmed from her opposite, her mirror image, so inverted.
Known by the people of that alien place as Bad Dream, the mirror of her had sown the seeds of terror and strife to further her own goals but also for something much simpler than that. For revenge. Their two stories had started out the same you see; pulled from a warm and comfortable early life by the loss of their parents, this mirrored Dream had however turned on the world, letting her heart turn to ice and embracing such bitter hate.
She caused havoc in a world ruled by magic and belief; everything there ran on story, on reputation. If people knew you, feared you there, then you became all the stronger. In this way Bad Dream had garnered herself quite the little empire in a world of twisted kingdoms.
Bad Dream had developed her own magics; including the devastating ability to summon an undying flame called Underfire. This eerie blue flame is endlessly cold; burning whatever it touches deeply with it, energetic and engulphing as flame and heat, yet deep and penetrating as endless cold. The tyrant Dream was also a master of many forms of more conventional magics, simpler ice and fire magics as well as enchantments and curses. Mainly, however, she steered towards those powerful flashy spells of Destruction.
Into this world of reputation and story her twin, Sophia from our world, is pulled. It is not clear how much time Sophia spent in the twisted mirror of the Nightmare World, what is clear is that she is changed for the experience.
Somehow, The Dream Girl was able to overcome her darkened twin, the struggle elongated and yet definitive. During her time there, Sophia had been able to learn the Underfire ability from her cruel double and some other forms of magics she had seen. Her innate abilities had enabled her to copy them simply for the seeing of the spell performed; perhaps, it helped she was watching herself perform them in a way.
Sophia believes that her twin, Bad Dream, had been killed in the final battle of that world. The truth of this will have to be seen, or not, in time to come. The Dream Girl may have to survive the Nightmare World yet again.
