Annie Fitzgerald
Anne Marie Fitzgerald was born in Hawaii, ten months after her brother, Kyle. Growing up, her role models were her fathers, Jacen and Tyler, her older brother, her Aunt Lila—her dads' best friend and and surrogate mother to both kids—and a wide community of surfers, artists, military men and women, and islanders. Jacen and Lila were in the military, while Tyler was a freelance graphic designer—and a druid.
The children grew up with a healthy understanding of the world and their place in it. Kyle was always stronger in the art than Annie was, and quickly surpassed his sister. For her part, Annie spent most of her time surfing, playing sports, and skating through her early classes with C's and D's. Of the two, Kyle was always the smarter and more driven; Annie enjoyed life day by day, and didn't get into nearly as much trouble as her brother did. When the siblings showed wildly disparate studying habits, Jacen and Tyler pulled them from school and focused on teaching them through community—friends and extended relatives, usually druids from Tyler's grove, volunteered to teach various subjects, and many was the class held on the beach or out on a catamaran.
