Vortex is a superhero based on Millennium City.
There is no real confirmation to who she was before she put on the vintage goggles, but rumors put her in Hudson City as part of the villain Card Shark's organization, however, these rumors have not been proven true.
She used to run alone, but was recruited into The Adventurers recently after a fast-paced, terrifying encounter with a group of enemies that were after her soon to be ally, Red Spider
Artemis Chase was born in Hudson City.
Little is needed to be said about what life is like in Hudson, as the city is very notorious for it's high rate of crime and it's dangerous environment.
Artemis was born from the forbidden love of two meta-human criminals from different criminal factions, in fact her mother was one of the top lieutenants of a notorious villain named Card Shark, Queen of Spades. In light of this, Artemis was constantly hidden away.
She inherited her mother's powers and was secretly trained by her mother to use them until one day when she was little, her mother disappeared. Little Chase however didn't find out until she was much older that her mother had a falling out with Card Shark and disappeared in the midsts of a big fight on the Hudson City Docks.
Growing up on the streets was rough, and needless to say Artemis suffered a lot. When she saw other people facing the same injustice as her, she decided to do something about it, she grabbed some vintage goggles that her mother used to wear, and an old aviator scarf as a mask, then put on a hoodie and ran around saving victims, but they only ever saw a "blur."
Eventually someone noticed her and tracked her down, a speedster woman who uses an advanced power armor to harness kinetic energy. She'd go by the name "Rush." She was initially skeptical of Artemis and her intentions but eventually helped her with a friction-proof suit, two energy powered blades that specifically only work with her abilities, and upgraded her goggles.
There was videos on the internet of her fighting crime, but most could only see a blur unless it was an expensive camera, though due to the pattern of her attacks and the way she moved, the locals dubbed the blur, "Vortex"
She joined the Police Academy as soon as she came of age, and due to her speed-thinking, she was able to ace through the academy quickly, and wasn't on patrol long before she helped a detective solve a cold case and got promoted to detective rank herself.
Joining The Adventurers!
She was recently transferred to the MCPD M.A.R.S Division to investigate meta-human threats. While exploring the city under her alter-ego, Vortex ran into the hero Red Spider, who received an alert of a robbery in progress and asked Vortex for backup. When the two arrived at the scene they were ambushed by a group of goons with high-tech weaponry, and Red Spider was knocked unconscious. Soon after, their boss came from hiding to try and finish the job. Vortex was able to hold off the group *just* long enough for The Adventurers to arrive and turn the fight around. The goons were defeated, but the boss got away in a power armor suit.
Vortex was then offered an invite into The Adventurers, which she immediately accepted and was excited to make some new friends.
