Joe Booker and Taysha Rollins were young and in love when they were married. Mr. Booker was a dwarf, performing as circus strongman. Taysha was the nurse practitioner and that is where they met. The two courted over three seasons of tour and eventually married and settled down in the Florida community of Gibtown. Mrs. Rollins continued to practice medicine, bringing in the primary family income and Mr. Booker did presentations for schools and taught at a school for circus performers. Neither were spectacular, but they made enough to pay the bills and provide for their four children.
SaJuan was the oldest brother, now a paralegal. Michael was the older brother, working with Special Education students as a para educator. Keisha the sister and now hip-hop dance coach. The older siblings were all normal developmentally both physically and emotionally.
And then there was Corey. It was Corey who was different.
Dr. Corey Booker was born with physical limitations, but not aspirational ones. He is a human dwarf, like his father, but with a penchant for science and medicine garnered and influenced by the many 'Take Your Child to Work' days he attended with Mrs. Rollins. Frequently picked on by school children, he became withdrawn and brusque in personality and it strengthened his resolve to become someone extraordinary. His parents worried, naturally, but felt Corey might be able to turn himself around with the right focus. They could afford to put all their kids in college, but each incurred substantial student debt.
This is where Corey's life began to turn around. He majored in science - Physics. He garnered enough in scholarships and grants to earn his M.A. in Astrophysics. He then went on to achieve his Ph.D in Astrophysics specializing in solar research and particularly the containment of solar radiation by gravimetric fields.
Now called Dr. Corey Booker by his colleagues, his work became highly regarded and, even though needing some assistive technology to perform his work in a world of normal human dimension, he was eventually recruited to Nex.U.S. labs. His assignment? To work on a team developing fission-infusion technology and design the next generation of metahumans. Of course Dr. Booker leapt at the chance to assist in what he believed could be the future of humanity's space-based exploration, and a premise for helping others with genetic conditions, such as his own, overcome them in a human-sized world.
Unfortunately, that program's objective went awry, not through evil intentions, just a decimal coding mistake in the mathematical aspects of the physics used to initiate human infusion. In the first attempt at infusion the lab experiment went wrong, flooding the Laboratory ward with fissionable materials and Dr. Booker, accidentally, became the first genetically challenged human mutated into living plasma - a walking, talking "dwarf star."
Working quickly to help him, correct the errors in the mathematical extrapolations and save their program, Nex.U.S. quickly developed a magnetic containment suit that helped him channel and funnel the nuclear energy his body now emits constantly. The suit is highly resistance to punctures, rents and tears. There are certain points where the gravimetric field can be stretched and his nuclear energy funnels through these. The obvious points of field stretch are his hands and eyes, but the seams in the suit allow for limited spherical discharges of coronal energy for defense purposes and the creation of solar winds which he uses for flight.
Dwarf Star's powers are based on several different manifestations of solar fission. His suit uses stretched gravimetric fields to encase, funnel and release the energy now emitted by his physical form.
Currently, these manifestations discharge from the lenses covering his ocular orbits in the form of laser emissions with intense heat and burning of any physical matter in his line of sight.
Additionally, he is able to produce spectacular solar flaring from his gauntlets, enabling him to strike opponents with varying intensities of solar plasma and radiation that is capable of temporarily crippling organic beings or melting non-organic objects to slag.
Finally, several vented seams in the suit allow him to produce solar wind effects for flight and limited aural plasma fields for self-protection.
Dr. Booker continues to work in the astrophysics field at Nex.U.S. but maintains a very low and introverted profile due to the fact his current appearance, except in size, no longer matches his public biographies and vitae. He only consults by voice and uses data transfers to mark the progress and results of his scientific endeavors. At this time he is considering hiring someone to be his 'public contact' for in-person meetings: An agent of sorts who fields requests and can moderate voice meetings. Having recently completed some self-experimentation and careful monitoring by Nex.U.S. labs, Dwarf Star has been cleared to join Nex.U.S. Blue under Watch Leader Exarch, but has made it known he could be available for Nex.U.S. Black team if needed. He is also registered with PRIMUS.
Dr. Booker's personality is tight-lipped and sometimes sullen. He usually presents as having a chip on his shoulder having been looked down upon as an African-American dwarf but deep down has a soft spot for helping people when he can, especially those he has determined to be friends or those physically challenged by birth. Dr. Booker does not engage socially very well and has given up on any emotional plans he once harbored given the nature of his mutation and the fact that without the gravimetric unit that houses his essence he would face immediate but slow dissipation.
He has engaged Viper and Argent teams. He frowns very heavily at Viper's hybridization of advanced technology and mystical energies. To this end, he has fought against the Canadian terrorist organization known as the Hunter-Patriots and assisted Stronghold on the occasion a metahuman break out has occurred. He is also very interested in extra-terrestrial technology, but resists their attempts to infiltrate Earth or engage in planetary incursions fearing the long-term repercussions for the human race.
Long time RPG'er active since 1982. Games include D&D, Role Master, Harn Master, V&V, Shadowrun, Champions (both Heroic and Dark), Living Steel, Cyberpunk: 2020.
