Devon Yamaguchi was born without the ability to speak. Her parents gave her up for adoption; fortunately, she was quickly adopted. Though born in Japan, her father moved to the United States soon after adopting her. She grew up in San Francisco, where she learned to communicate through sign language. Though she was an above average student, she never really fit in with the other children.
She attended Golden Gate University, where she fared a bit better. After graduating with a degree in graphic design, she got a job in San Francisco. While at an art gallery with some friends, she was noticed by an antiquities dealer named Gabriel Frost. Frost took an immediate interest in her, and they began dating several months later.
She was at the meeting where a cultist and a mafia con man tried to steal a rare book from Frost, and was transported with the others to the Plane of Shadow when the book turned out to be magical.
Her time on the Shadow Plane has unlocked mental powers which she is still trying to understand, but whereas some of the others in the group have reacted negatively to their experience, Devon is excited about being a telepath.
