Energy Transferal, Regeneration
Lev Balakov, now known as Surge, is a metahuman with the rare power to generate vitality or life force. Surge is also the son of a supervillain, a former villain himself and an ex-con who currently works for UNTIL as a condition of his probation.
Surge is trying to reform himself, but being the good guy is not as easy as it is made out to be.
Personality
Lev Balakov is an animated, energetic and impulsive individual. He is both easygoing and easily distracted. Despite his villainous upbringing, the not-so-upstanding young man has managed to maintain a surprisingly optimistic outlook on life. Lev seems determined to not waste a single moment of his newfound freedom.
Lev is still very much a work in progress, he definitely has no shortage of bad habits. Concepts such as personal possession are still foreign to him. You have to remember his main role model was a supervillain.
At times Lev does seem conflicted, but considering his rather sudden and drastic transition from villain to hero it only makes sense for his moral compass to sometimes be spinning. And while the humor and happy-go-lucky attitude are no doubt in part a facade or coping mechanism, there does appear to be a half decent guy beneath all of it who genuinely wants to make up for his involvement in the family's many terrible crimes.
Abilities
Surge's main power is to generate vitality or life force, which grants him a variety of abilities.
His mutant powers often manifest in the form of vermilion tinted sparks and bright warm light.
Energy Attacks - Surge is able to generate far more vitality than a body needs. He can convert the excess life force into energy attacks that release massive concussive force on impact. The amount of force that is unleashed depends on the amount of energy that Surge put into the attack, minus the distance traveled.
His energy attacks do not cut through materials like some kind of laser beam and produce almost no heat.
Enhanced Stamina - Because Surge can generate vitality, he pretty much has an unlimited amount of energy. His muscles simply never tire because his body just keeps on rivatalizing itself almost indefinitely.
Energy Transferal - Surge can transfer the vitality he generates through physical contact, infusing others with life force and energy. A regular human would simply feel replenished, as if their energy levels are being topped off, but for most metahumans this means their meta abilities also gain a temporary boost. They may find themselves suddenly able to use powers at their maximum potential, at least temporarily (or as long as physical contact with Surge is maintained), without exhausting themselves in the process.
Regeneration - Surge's power allows him to regenerate organic matter. He can recover from virtually any injury almost instantly and survive wounds that would be lethal for any normal person. Exactly how fast he regenerates of course depends on the amount of damage that has been inflicted.
Because Surge is able to transfer the life force he generates through physical contact, he can also use his power to heal others by simply touching them. Technically, his abilities work on anything organic. He could revive a dying tree, restore a half-eaten piece of fruit or even make someone grow an instant moustache.
Weaknesses
- Family - Surge has very conflicted feelings about his family, which may cause dangerous hesitation.
- Inexperience - Surge is relatively new to the hero scene. And to being one of the good guys in general.
- Limitations - Surge can only generate life force, he does not have the power of creation. It is not within his power to reverse aging, cure genetic disorders or induce life. He can bring someone back from the dead, but only if part of them is still alive and said person has not reached the end of their lifespan yet.
- Magic - Most spells and curses, apart from maybe death magic and necromancy, will work on Surge.
- Mental - Surge has no special or supernatural defenses against any form of psychic or mental assault.
- Not Invulnerable - Disintegration, complete molecular destabilization, total incineration or any method that ensures the destruction of Surge's whole body (or that damages him faster than he can heal) is not something he can come back from. There needs to be something left of him to be able to regenerate.
- Not Unstoppable - While Surge would survive drowning, freezing, being poisoned and so on. He will not be of much use in a fight when he is encased in ice, buried under rubble or drowning on an infinite loop.
- Pain - Surge may have build up a tolerance for pain, but he is far from immune to it. He still feels all of it.
- Range - Most of Surge's abilities require physical contact or for him to be in close proximity to his target.
- Sleep - His muscles may never tire, but Surge still needs to sleep to stay sharp and recharge himself.
