Jonathon Surhoff was born the son of Chief Surhoff and his wife Janice in the suburbs of Michigan. Even as a young boy, Jonathon wanted nothing more than to be a super-hero, or the second best option a law enforcement official leading him to greatly look up to his father who is the Police Chief of MCPD. He and his friends would spend endless hours designing super-hero costumes and heroic identities for themselves. At this precocious age, the seeds of Jonathon's future crime-fighting career began to foment.<br><br>

When Jonathon was 13, his mother Janice, a medic, was hit by a stray bullet, while helping the victims of a gang riot in Westside. She died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. This incident triggered his hate for gangs and injustice period. Due to this Jon unconsciously blamed his father for not being there and immediately became infatuated with the Gotham City's most legendary phantom of the night – the Owl.<br>
