About
Rhys Aston was born in England in the north west near Preston. He was born to lower middle class parents and was educated in a public school. Growing up he was your typical kid, not too nerdy nor too popular. His powers manifested by accident, his body turning to metal to protect him from an automobile accident from which he walked away unscathed: which most consider him merely lucky for. It was not until a month or so later that he discovered his shapeshifting power: he merely considered himself able to become organic steel at first.
He owns a small auto repair shop and employs a few skilled mechanics there, which along with holding the patents on a few pieces of engineering leaves him unconcerned with wealth and able to move around freely.
Powers and Abilities:
Shapeshifting
- Machines/Vehicles/Technological only: Rhys is able to shapeshift in to any vehicle, device, machine or machination there is, either fully or in part (such as a gun-arm or robotic multi spectrum eyes). His shapeshifting is true and perfect, by any definition he truly is what he becomes. His shape is not lost on unconsciousness etc, which can be both good and bad depending on the circumstance. See weaknesses and energy conversion for the downside of this power.
- Mental scanning: Rhys can acquire a new technological form in one of two ways: he can touch it and gain the form within a brief second or he can scan the form remotely. This scan has a visually restricted range and takes about 30 seconds to complete. Should it be interrupted it is not lost and time would be credited to the next scanning attempt. This mental scan is a psychic effect (and thus can be negated by an anti-psionic barrier).
Rhys is able to mix and match forms and technology between forms, so he could use the gun of one tank on another tank shape, or use the lightweight superstrong alloys of a fighter craft on a fast ground vehicle.
Minor Regeneration
Rhys regenerates at what would be considered a low level to all three stats: physical, mental and spiritual. His physical regeneration can be boosted via absorbing and incorporating metals.
Regeneration rates:
- 1 body/hour (he also recovers from fatigue faster)
- 1 mind/12 hours
- 1 spirit/6 hours
These regeneration rates continue even when shapeshifted into vehicle forms and even from the point of death, so he will eventually reform from a state of destruction.
Rhys is also not prone to any poisons or diseases due to his organic metal body and shapeshifting resetting his body state every time it is done. Rhys also recovers from fatigue much faster than a human (roughly four times as fast as an olympic level athlete) and he can even generate energy in a shapeshifted state such as a vehicle: generating about 50% of his total over around eight hours 'rest'.
Super Strong/Tough
in his base form, Rhys is able to lift three tons and possesses an organic metal body that is about as strong as steel (but is functionally stronger due to being able to move and disperse impacts etc). When he shapeshifts into his fully metallic form his strength increases to about six tons. He can achieve greater levels of strength etc via shapeshifting into vehicles or robots.
Rhys is capable of more strength, but he does not do much in the way of weight training or exercise trusting to his base powers to see him through. Some would consider this a mistake or laziness.
Immortal
Rhys is an immortal: he will never age nor die from ageing. While he can be killed via certain physical means, his powers pose a great barrier to it. He can only be destroyed if every piece of his existing body is destroyed/disintegrated.
Skills:
Vehicle Engineer
Rhys has a college level education in engineering along with the great benefits of his power along with an intrinsic understanding of the field.
Mechanic
Rhys is a skilled mechanic, possessing a college level education in the field along with the great benefits of his power along with an intrinsic understanding of the skill.
Gunsmith
Rhys has studied this field extensively and has scanned all manner of firearms: from slugthrowers to energy weapons of varying kinds.
Weaknesses
- Magnetism: Since his body is organic metal Rhys is incredibly vulnerable to magnetic attacks. From a game standpoint they deal double damage and he takes a saving throw penalty against them.
- Technopathy: By any technical definition his mind functions more akin to that of a machine or AI and though he has a moderately strong mind by human standards he has no extraordinary defence against them. Therefore a technopath is able to mess with him in the same manner a psychic could mess with a normal human. Due to this however a psychic would have incredible difficulty affecting him with their powers.
- Energy conversion: When he shapeshifts Rhys converts his bodily energy into fuel/battery charge etc. So if he is very tired he might only be at 50% battery charge etc, though as a machine he does not feel fatigue. Resuming his own form after a long journey can be immediately tiring and if he is fully drained it might cause him to collapse form exhaustion or lose unconsciousness. He can be refueled / charged in vehicle/robotic form and this energy converts back to standard bodily energy upon resuming his own form. This also applies to expended ammunition: emptying a few clips from a machine gun arm would leave him as tired as throwing many punches.
