Biography

The Cheerleader

Until recently, Danielle Lefevre lived a charmed life. Her home was a New York City penthouse, she went to a fancy private school. Her father was quite well-off, she was one of the popular girls, on the cheerleading squad, she wanted for nothing. Developing superpowers was probably the worst time of her life until then. She didn't want powers, she didn't want to be a freak or upset her status quo. She'd started shocking people she touched, zapping phones and computers, swimming became a no-go, terrified that she'd hurt someone. She took to wearing rubber bands around her wrists, her ankles, anything to ground herself, absorb the electricity her body was naturally generating. She had to work hard to gain control over her abilities, little by little, but eventually, satisfied she could handle them enough to suppress them, she gladly tried to move on and ignore that she had them. She certainly didn't want the pressures or danger of being some superhero, but also didn't have any desire to use her powers for selfish or harmful purposes.

When her father got a job opportunity in Millennium City, Danielle was inconsolable. Uprooting her entire pampered life to move to an admittedly-nice new city, losing her friends, having to start from square one? Truly this was the worst thing to ever happen to her! She spent the entire process huffy and overdramatic, not making things easy for her parents. And yet the move still came.

The Pariah

Her father, Claude Lefevre, was, as far as Dani was aware, some middle-manager or something at a popular New York casino, and had been promoted to became the head management of the newly-renovated Five Aces casino in Millennium. It was a big step, and even his daughter's spoiled attitude couldn't dampen his spirits. Some months later, what did dampen his spirits was a group of meddling superheroes uncovering the Five Aces casino as a front for all manner of underworld dealings, most notably a metahuman trafficking ring. Claude was exposed; he'd long been in deep with the mob, working loyally in NYC as an enforcer and lieutenant before getting an opportunity to lead his own operation in Millennium City. The man was unrepentant, going to jail swearing revenge on the Adventurers, the group that took him down.

His family was left to pick up the pieces. His assets frozen, Dani and her mother quickly ran into money problems, selling their swanky suite for something cheap and affordable. Her mother had to desperately find a job after years of being a trophy wife. But that could be tolerable, even if it was a bit of a culture shock. What became intolerable was the hit to their reputation. No one truly believed that Miranda and Danielle could be completely oblivious to their husband/father's real job. Dani's fellow students spread rumors, left nasty messages and threats; what kind of girl would happily let their dad trade in human lives and violence? She'd never experienced such distrust and resentment towards her. Her friends abandoned her for safer options, and she was left alone, a social pariah, just quietly keeping her head down and trying to get through school.

The Superhero

Dani's original improvised costume.

And privately, Danielle was even more torn. She was a metahuman. Would her own father have thought so little of her, if he'd known? She was forced to admit she really didn't know him at all, would he have gladly sold her off to some science lab or villainous organization? She felt sick, as if her father had left a stain on her life. With grim determination, she decided to do something with her powers. Millennium City was a dangerous place, she could be a hero. It wouldn't repair her family name or even her own reputation - especially since she had no intention of revealing her identity - but in her eyes, if she could add some good to the world, maybe she'd one day prove she was worth more than her father's criminal legacy. She purchased a few simple items - a lightning-patterned bodysuit, ski goggles, sturdy boots, gloves, pads, and pouches - and started venturing out.

And she did well. Her powers were more than a match for most thugs and gangsters. She was smart enough to avoid going after big villains... usually. One unfortunate incident resulted in her being captured and imprisoned by the villain Devastator, who eventually installed her into the core of a giant robot to be used as a power source, the deadly mech literally draining her. She was saved by the Adventurers, with Webcrawler returning the traumatized girl home to a mother that barely realized she'd been missing.

Eventually, Danielle did make a friend, Amelia Arden, unknown to her the clone "sister" of Adventurer Stretcher. They eventually revealed their powers to each other, with Dani encouraging Amelia to practice her own rubbery abilities. It was through this friendship that Dani managed to be recommended for and gain a scholarship to Detroit Memorial High School, being placed in their secret A-Plus program.

Personality

Due to her upbringing, Danielle grew up more than a little spoiled and vain. She was self-centered and occasionally insensitive, with a tinge of elitism, and reveled in her popularity, especially once she joined her school's cheerleading team. Some of this attitude remains, though her "fall from grace" has been a greatly humbling experience. In her public life, after the scandal she became withdrawn and almost mute, avoiding others and simply trying to get through school without notice or harassment. Joining A-Plus quickly brought her out of her shell, though some of her flaws have returned as well. She is self-aware enough to recognize her old self was not the best person, which feeds into certain insecurities.

Dani is confident in her abilities and proud of her body and good looks, though this confidence can be shaken easily. In particular, she has a certain resentment of getting upstaged, and tends to be hard on herself for perceived weaknesses. Unfortunately, this manifests in a nasty habit of lashing out at others or becoming sullen. This jealousy also gives her a stubborn streak, becoming more reckless in an attempt to "prove herself." Strangely, despite her confidence, eagerness to please, and apparent need for validation as Battery, as Dani she gets embarrassed and feels undeserving of direct praise, the specter of her father hanging over her head, an ingrained paranoia of getting too much attention on herself.

On the more positive end of the spectrum, Danielle is genuinely friendly and compassionate, supportive of others and protective of her friends.

Danielle avoids talking about her home life and financial situation, deflecting and distracting from the subject. She also never speaks of her father unless confronted, wanting to leave the entire thing in the past, and dreads what she figures is the inevitable broaching of the subject. She's paranoid that everyone she meets is judging her for it, even though, realistically, the scandal has long been out of most peoples' minds.

Dani has developed a particular dislike of being used or treated as a battery despite her name, even when it comes in handy in a team situation. Her experience with Devastator has left a mild fear of being reduced to that again, by anyone.

Danielle enjoys physical activities: gymnastics, dance, swimming, hiking, horse-riding (which, for obvious reasons, she's no longer able to indulge in). She was into fashion, though much less so now that she no longer has the means to afford a large wardrobe. She's only now being introduced to typical "nerd" activities and interests by her new friends; before, she was a very casual gamer - the occasional Pokemon Go session or party game. She also loves animals, though generally just the "cute" ones: horses, dolphins, otters, dogs, cats, that sort of thing. Bugs and toads remain gross.

While she's not proud of it, due to her current lack of money Danielle has a bad habit of robbing criminals once they're unconscious, quickly looting the bills out of their wallets before slinking away. She only does this when she thinks she can get away with it - never with others around, especially other heroes, and only one or two robberies a week, depending on how much she makes. She uses these ill-gotten gains to help her mother, and as petty cash for herself. It's possible that the more she does this, the less shame she'll feel. It's also possible that if she gets desperate, she'll get careless.

While Dani is unsure what she wants her future to be, she is currently considering trying to get into acting.

Powers and Skills

Electricity

Due to mutation, Danielle's body is like a charging battery; she passively generates electricity, at a certain point causing shocks to anything she touches unless actively controlled and suppressed. This power builds up over time until "full", after which Danielle begins to suffer headaches, nausea, and tremors. Fortunately, she is able to discharge this bio-electricity as well, draining it out of her little by little. Completely "emptying" her charge has no noticeable side effects other than the temporary loss of her abilities while she rests.

Dani is able to control and manipulate her bio-electricity. Mostly this comes in the flashy form of blasting lightning from her fingers or charging up her punches and kicks. However, she is also able to create "fields" of electricity, generating a crackling flat disk that, through magnetic fields, is solid enough to act as a shield or even a platform to stand on. Danielle can essentially "surf" on this field to reach speeds comparable to a bicycle or slow-moving car while hovering roughly a foot or two off the ground. She is currently practicing "lifting" this disk while on it, able to levitate herself up to rooftops, and working on vertical movement to achieve a form of flight.

Gymnastics

Danielle is a talented acrobat, especially for her age. She has exceptional balance and flexibility, skilled at agile rolls, backflips, handstands, and leaps. She also now practices informal parkour over the rooftops and alleys of the city. While not formally trained in combat, Dani has taken a self-defense course, and knows enough to manage simple strikes and spin kicks.

Relationships

Family

  • Claude Alexander Lefevre - Prior to his arrest, Dani was definitely a daddy's girl. Claude doted on her, and while he worked long hours, she adored him. Still, she kept her developing powers a secret from everyone, including him. After his exposure as a gang leader, this relationship was shattered, at least on Dani's side. She refuses to visit him in prison, though he's requested it several times and sends (unread) letters to her. He still greatly loves his daughter; if he were able, he'd gladly explain himself to her, make her understand him, perhaps even bring her into the "family business" as his proxy on the outside. She's his child, after all; even in prison, he's in charge of her, or so he thinks.
  • Miranda Hillary McKay - Dani had a good relationship with her mother, she was always supportive, if not always totally interested in her life. The changed circumstances hit her hard, however; working long hours at two low-paying jobs after years of idle luxury, Miranda has taken to heavy drinking in her off-time. No longer particularly close, Danielle is occasionally uncertain if her mother even cares about her anymore. This is mostly due to unfortunate lack of communication; Miranda dearly loves her daughter, but no longer has the energy or sobriety to often show it.

Friends

  • Amelia Arden - Amelia was Dani's first real friend post-Five Aces. She greatly appreciates the shy girl's supportive and affectionate energy. Dani, in return, is encouraging of Amelia's art and powers.
  • Janine Mercer - Their respective electrical powers exposed by an accidental collision that short-circuited the both of them temporarily, Dani was reluctant to trust Janine at first, though her earnest excitement was infectious and the two became fast friends over their shared heroic interests. Dani awkwardly keeps the A-Plus program a secret from Janine, despite her being a fellow superhero classmate, but happily accompanies her on patrols or hangouts.

A-Plus

A-Plus is a small class of exceptional or metahuman students at Detroit Memorial High School. Together they are taught skills and knowledge vital to become future superheroes, if they so desire. The program is in collaboration with the superhero team the Adventurers; due to their involvement in her father's arrest, Dani is uncomfortable and anxious when one of them visits.
