Background
Samantha was born to Christine and John Layton on March 7th, 1998 in Des Moines, Iowa. The birth was completely normal, and the girl's parents were thrilled after having been trying for a few years. For the first eight years of her life, Samantha grew up like a totally average young girl. She started school, passed through kindergarten and the first two grades of the education system with no issues and decent results. It was just as she started third grade that her powers started to manifest themselves.
Unlike a lot of people with pyrokinesis, Samantha didn't learn about her abilities through intense emotional drama or physical suffering - instead she was just concentrating incredibly hard while making a painting for her parents one night when the brush went up in flames. In a world of heroes and villains, Samantha knew instantly what was happening to her. Or rather, she seriously hoped she was correct in her assumption. Wasting no time in keeping the gift to herself, Sam started to teach herself to create and manipulate flames using her gift.
Never being one to keep secrets from her family, Samantha showcased her powers to her parents. Her mother was incredibly worried what their daughter's powers would mean for the family, but John reassured her that nothing would change. He was overjoyed by their situation, and applied for a position with the police department in Millennium, the city where superheroes are the norm. They packed up and moved when Samantha turned 13. The move was difficult at first for Sam, having to start afresh in a new school, but she had come a long way with her powers, and things were only looking up.
Samantha got a spot in Ravenwood Academy, having just started the new school term in the tenth grade. Alongside this, she has taken up the name "Nitro" and operates as a registered superhero within the city she now resides in.

Regeneration
Thanks to her incredibly fast body systems and functions, Nitro is able to heal over wounds and broken bones in a matter of seconds. While it hasn't been observed yet (thankfully), it is also believed by some members of the public and also other heroes that she may in fact be able to regenerate lost limbs should such a situation arise.
Equipment
"Spitfire" Goggles - Samantha's goggles are a wide mix of materials including Kevlar, nylon, titanium and two-inch thick, orange mirrored glass. These are used to protect her eyes when running and high speeds and also when using her powers in a close proximity to herself.
"Nitro" Plating - This refers to the techy-looking armor worn on her wrists and feet. These pieces of technology amplify her powers in various ways, but generally just assist her in starting combustion in the atmosphere to generate fire.

Tropes
Beware the Nice Ones - Samantha is likely to be one of the kindest, sweetest people you'll ever meet - that doesn't mean she won't snap when pushed enough.
Good Is Not Soft - While crazy-nice outside of work, when she comes face-to-face with a truly evil villain, she won't hold back.
Wide-Eyed Idealist - Samantha sees the best in everything. Even villains. Until they hurt her or her friends physically, she will try to talk them down.
Underestimating Badassery - A lot of villains (and other heroes) see Samantha as nothing more than a teenage nuisance. They've been proven wrong before.
