They compromised by letting her take karate classes, hoping that would be enough for her, but it wasn't. She'd sneak out at night to do some criminal investigating of the Westside gangs and leave her notes with the MCPD anonymously. She knew better than to try to get into a real fight with anyone though.

One night while investigating some Black Ace activity, she stumbled onto something big. They had kidnapped a scientist and stolen some kind of dangerous alien chemical, and they were going to test it on them! There was no time to wait for the police or a real hero, Aanya had to do something!

She rushed in and managed to take out one of them by surprise. In a panic, the Black Ace fired the alien weapon at Aanya instead, then fled along with the other members. Aanya was disoriented by the blast, then passed out.

She came to on the couch of the scientist she'd rescued. Aanya couldn't recall what happened. The scientist explained she had been exposed to an unknown Qularr Mutagen. After she was hit with it, the other Aces unloaded their guns on her, but the bullets bounced off with no effect, so they ran.

After some tests, they determined that her body had mutated to absorb the energy like a battery, and then release that energy at will. Aanya was ecstatic! All that good karma had finally paid off!

The scientist agreed to keep her secret and surprised her a week later with her own superhero costume as a thanks for saving their life, including a rare questionite shield. Aanya registered as a local superhero and took on the alias of the Indestructible Attagirl!
