Most of the servant creatures were lost in the battle. They had fought the Guard with aim to kill, and there was no indication the creatures would've been more than particularly fleshy robots. What was captured alive was restrained and shipped to be studied or used as evidence of the pirates's crimes. Investigators examined the den, looking for trails as to where escaped pods had been sent to to try to find the rest of the escaped upper hyerarchy.

Although the last remaining member of the den, Telis doesn't begrudge the Guard, as back there he was doomed. But being 'escaped' also gave him the freedom to express his discontent... and realizing he no longer needs to serve anybody, he is 'quite happy' to revel in his independence. He is left more or less alone, as despite his origins and nature, he is also a very competent doctor for Meta-Humans.

Ya'Telis resembles a large, lanky, half-mechanical lizard creature. He has a thick, muscular tail about as long as the rest of his body combined, which he can use as a weapon and to better his agility and steering while running. He often carries a slouched posture to counterbalance the weight of the tail. His exposed skin is slick and slimy to the touch- like a frog, it appears to be covered in some sort of toxic mucus, making him hard to grab and not a good idea to bite. The head seems bird or lizard-like, with a sharp toothless beak covered by skin and eel-like, lipless jaws. His forehead is protected by an impressive set of head crests. Bristly spines run down the back of his skull to his hips, another toxic defense. His limbs appear completely mechanical- they are in fact, removable attachments.

His skull is blunted without any trace of nose or snout, jaws that can split three ways (although normally he just uses the more normal 'vertebrate' hinge), two sets of thick mandibles and four long antennae pointing in different directions.

If relieved of his limb enhancers, he resembles a long, finless eel.

*While he identifies as male, Ya'Telis is biologically hermaphrodite. His creators desired practicality, and this includes not wasting time looking for a suitable mate of the opposite gender if he proved to be good genetic material. Telis was created with both functional sets of genitalia, and is fully capable of laying eggs (if fertilized). He is highly embarrased of this fact, and mentioning it in public is not wise if you're not ready to deal with an enraged Telis.

Doctor Ya'Telis -aka Triage, as he is known by UNTIL now- is a neutral-aligned character and a 'space pirate'; genetically engineered servants (sentient and not) designed to be easily replaceable and highly effective in their tasks- lab assistant, in his case. He is the last remaining member of his science team and one of the only Pirates of his strain to keep sentience.

Origins

Doctor Ya'Telis was created in a den of space pirates outside Sol's range, by a particularly large and powerful faction that preyed on passing Malvan merchants. These pirates achieved this strenght due to the fact that their higher echelons were Malvans themselves- Bored, jaded Malvans that turned to hunting their own for sport. Without access to Malvan robotics to wage their battles, and their influx of members of inferior species being limited, they turned to the next best thing- creating their own slaves.

Strains

Ya'Telis, and all of his batch, were made to be lab folk- a task they were perfectly suited for due to their increased intelligence and being easily subdued through their frailty. But scientists were hardly the only thing the Pirates created.

Telis's 'strain' of creature was informally labeled 'techies', and they served along others; soldiers, assassins, scouts, entertainers, manual labor... Each made out of mixed DNA of different alien creatures. There was no real name for the 'species' they created; each strain of servant was too different from the others, with more changes added every new batch. They were made to be robot substitutes, for a faction that valued quantity over quality and efficiency over everything else. The many servant creatures were easily replaceable, vicious and hideous, but excellent at their assigned tasks. Any rebellious thoughts (the result of organic brains being used in the place of computers) were quickly squashed through fear and making examples, and unlike robots, particularly good specimens could simply be bred and bred for an even more optimized new generation.

They were a good mindless army, for a legion of sociopaths that enjoyed needless cruelty.

Pirate Life

Telis, as part of a scientist strain less likely to be replaced, had a relatively good life as a servant. His job was mostly engineering and maintenance, occasionally designing more strains and improving upon the existing when needed. It wasn't a life devoid of close calls, but considerably less than could have been had he been created a soldier, for instance. He was a good, submissive servant, and the idea of rebellion was far from his mind.

That's how Ya'Telis spent most of his life, engineering weapons, creating other strains of cannon fodder, commanded by angry Dorvalan pirates and bored Malvan captains.

Crack Down

That is, until the Star*Guard found out the den and crushed it. It was a lenghty battle and cleanup, with most of the Malvan ringleaders being captured and either imprisoned or sent to their Homeworld for judgement, the few members of less decadent races facing similar fates.

Most of the servant creatures were lost in the battle. They had fought the Guard with aim to kill, and there was no indication the creatures were more than dumb, mindless guard hounds. What was captured alive was restrained and shipped to be studied or used as evidence of the pirates's crimes. Investigators examined the den, looking for trails as to where escaped pods had been sent to to try to find the rest of the escaped upper hyerarchy.

Among them, one stray pod led to Pluto.

Current Events

When the Star*Guard reached the location, they found the crashed pod and the comatose pilot... who happened to be one of the monstrous alien hybrids. They surrounded the creature, but rather than fight, it bowed down and surrendered, pleading for mercy. It introduced itself as Ya'Telis, and claimed he just wanted to be left alone. After the Guard stood down and interrogated him, several things were learned. One, the crimes of the Pirates were more serious than believed. Two, the creatures they had destroyed were sentient, though aggresive and animalistic. Three, the Pirate leaders had tried to conceal their crimes by killing every single creation who held sensitive information, including the scientists. Ya'Telis was possibly the last one left.

After having him testify, they nursed him back to health and decided to honor his request, with an offer to take him somewhere where he could be free and have a fair chance to live. He accepted reluctantly.

They took him to Earth.

Although the last remaining member of the den, Telis doesn't begrudge the Guard. In fact, he relishes his newfound freedom. Being 'escaped' allows him to express his discontent without being slaughtered for it... and realizing he no longer needs to serve anybody, he is quite happy to revel in his independence. He is left more or less alone, as despite his origins and nature, he is also a very competent doctor for Meta-Humans. The true intentions of this often-labeled 'mad scientist' are unknown.

Appearance

Ya'Telis resembles a large, lanky, partially mechanical insectoid creature, who vaguely resembles an Earth Eurypterid (sea scorpions). The rest of the creature is covered in thick chitinous exoskeleton, colored a bright azure like tropical waters, giving the impression he is a creature emerged from the depths. His skull is blunted without any trace of nose or snout, jaws that can split three ways (although normally he just uses the more normal 'vertebrate' hinge), two sets of thick mandibles and four long antennae pointing in different directions.

Personality

Bitter, independent, and generally unhappy with his lot in life. Has a soft core, but it's protected by very, very, very sharp cynism, sarcasm and cruelty.

Originally a docile scientist (outside of tossing a few tools in rage at labmates that mess too much) that was unnerringly loyal so that he would not be 'replaced', now that he no longer needs to fear he has let go of his inhibitions and revealed a grumpy old alien doctor that just wants to better his craft, consequences and ethics be damned.

He still has the thinking of a space Pirate, so unless his work is visibly damaging to his subjects, he does not bother with- and can't understand- things like moral dilemmas, limits to science, and why some things shouldn't be touched. He also has a hard time understanding social cues.

Skillset

Meta- powers

  • Life-force Manipulation and Generation. Used to heal and damage, and power his regeneration.
  • Venomous slime skin. It's toxicity is mild, as the mucus is intended to make Telis hard to grab and unpalatable to alien predators. Many licks or several bites of skin are needed to reach anything like lethal dosage. Symptoms, from least to lethal dosage: Lightheadedness, stomach ache, nausea, euphoria, 'asleep' limbs, hallucinations, paranoia, paralysis, death.
    • Venomous stinger: The stinger at the end of his tail can inject his venom in much greater concentrations. Same effects, more lethality.
  • Superhuman speed (150mph at run)
  • Regenerative factor.

Abilities

  • Excellent intellect and technical knowledge.
  • Above average strenght. Not strong enough to be considered metahuman, however.
  • Raptorial agility- Comparable to that of Cretaceous dromaeosaurid theropods.
  • Extremely adaptable. Can survive for several hours without an atmosphere.

Weaknesses

  • Fragile body- cannot withstand much physical damage, specially slashing or impact. His caparace is relatively fragile.
  • Very bad at social cues.
  • Weak to radiation ramage, and cold.
  • Willpower is lacking. If fearful or intimidated enough, may temporally revert to his old servile state of mind and beg and cower rather than actually try to flee.
  • If his mechanical limbs are taken away, he is absolutely helpless.
  • Has no defenses against psionic abilities. He is aware enough to detect intruders lurking about his mind, but can't do anything to push them out.

Other notes

  • Despite the wet texture of his skin, having his skin dry off doesn't seem to damage him, although the surface does crack and it seems to make him noticeably uncomfortable. He needs the same hydration as an average adult human.
  • While he identifies as male, Ya'Telis is biologically hermaphrodite. His creators desired practicality, and this includes not wasting time looking for a suitable mate of the opposite gender if he proved to be good genetic material. Telis was created with both functional sets of genitalia, and is fully capable of laying eggs. He is highly embarrased of this fact, and mentioning it in public is a sure way to get a furious mad doctor trying to behead you.
  • Telis is an obligate carnivore, like felines, hawks or snakes. Attempting to ingest anything other than meat will likely make him physically ill. This includes things such as: chocolate, fries, fruits, most desserts, anything fried, salads or anything that has vegetables as main ingredient.
    • Oddly, he seems able to consume coffee, even the raw beans. He has formed an addiction to it.
  • Ya'Telis is very large, but his stature is disguised by the way he hunches over, putting his head at roughly eye level with the average metahuman. More than one person has been surprised by how tall he actually is the few times he sees fit to stand straight.
  • He really dislikes being touched, specially around his tail. This likely stems from abuse back with his creators, where physical contact was usually bad news and supervisors often manhandled 'techies' like him by grabbing them by their tails.
    • The only places where touching him doesn't trigger a bad reaction are, amusingly, his face and back. His face because he can just chomp on the hand of the offender if necessary, his back due to his armor.
  • He is very lightweight when it comes to drinking. Telis actively avoids alcohol, but if you manage to get him to drink, care should be taken as Ya'Telis is incapable of discerning which liquors are too strong for him and it is very probably you will end up with a giant space scorpion vomiting on the floor.
