Background
Jacob Parker was born and raised in Boston, the younger of twin sons born to Mark and Lisa Parker, an assistant district attorney and newspaper reporter respectively. He and his brother Matthew grew up in upper-middle class suburbia, loved by their parents and well-liked by their friends, oblivious to the worries their parents felt with regards to their safety – both of them did work that drew attention from unsavory places, and they worked as hard as they could to protect their family from it.
Matthew was always the golden child, intelligent and well-behaved, while Jake was the more physical of the two with his good looks and sharp tongue. Secretly, they were jealous of the other’s abilities and as they neared their teenage years, it had exploded into a full-blown sibling rivalry. Matt would publicly put down his brother’s brains, and Jake retaliated by effortlessly basking in the attention of their friends and remaining well-liked despite his “obvious intellectual inferiority” – something that grated on Matt’s nerves to no end.
When the boys were sixteen, their father prosecuted a case that sent the supervillain Deadlock to Stronghold. In retaliation, Deadlock’s minions made an attempt on Mark’s life. During the scuffle, Jake’s ability to manifest and manipulate fire emerged for the first time, and he helped a local hero fend off the attack. Unfortunately, both of his parents were struck by the minions' attacks during the battle and despite a speedster’s escort to the hospital, their lives could not be saved. Matt and Jake found themselves in foster care with a new point of contention between them – Jake’s powers.
Their rivalry reached such a fever pitch that it was decided that it would be best if they were adopted by different families, something that the boys’ tempers and pride prevented them from arguing against. Matt was adopted by a local family after a few short weeks while Jake’s newfound tendency to act out prevented anyone from reaching out – and those who did had second thoughts when they realized that he could set things on fire with a thought.
Nearly a full year after his family was destroyed, the Qularr attacked Millennium City. Jake busted out of the orphanage and made the trip to Michigan, arriving towards the end of the would-be invasion and helping the city’s heroes repel the attack. The media took notice and, as a result, so did Professor Lockheart. A meeting between the two resulted in Lockheart taking the boy in, making him his ward and the very first student of the Halcyon Academy.
Personality
Jacob is, at his heart, a good person. He prefers the people around him to be in a good mood and comfortable around him, and has become capable of being something of a social chameleon in order to help make it happen. He prefers to get along with people whenever possible, since life is usually more fun for all invovled that way.
He is also, however, a very honest and blunt person, something that can often rub people the wrong way. He tends be to unapologetic about it, finding that personality clashes are inevitable - he is who he is, they are who they are, he's not going to apologize for it and neither should they.
He prefers not to discuss his past or his family, finding the subjects too painful and preferring instead to focus on the here and now. He does feel a certain kinship with others who have experienced loss or otherwise troubled histories and, although he rarely explains why, he makes a point of reaching out to them even more than he does his other peers.
Powers
Jacob assumes that he is a mutant, born with the ability to manipulate fire and heat, including the ability to fly.
Jacob is wrong.
Jacob is unknowingly one of many avatars of Helios, Greek God of the Sun. Harold Lockheart knew one of Helios' previous avatars, a hero he sometimes worked with that was killed during the Battle of Detroit. Recognizing Jacob as one of the latest Avatars of Helios due to his eyes, he gave the boy his hero name - though he has yet to explain why he chose it, leaving Jacob to assume that "it's some weird mythology thing, I don't even know. Whatever. Sounds cool, though."

Gaming Club
Jacob founded the school's Gaming Club because it gave him an excuse to use school funds to buy more video games and he was getting tired of using X-Box Live to make fun of peoples' inability to shoot straight. He has organized the club's first tournament to take place at Noah's Arcade, where his friend and classmate, Night Shift, serves as a night manager.
Host Club
Jacob is one of the more busy Hosts, making time every day to entertain guests in the club's home within Music Room 3. Most often, his guests are young men and women from outside the school excited to meet a genuine young superhero, but he sometimes pursues guests from other walks of life - reporters, for example - to try to further the school's good reputation.
