Origin Story

"I can't tell you much about my origins, my memory banks for that period are heavily damaged. I can tell you that I was created as part of an experiment with bio-nanites obtained from a crashed Xenovore vessel. The project was labeled as Covert Cybernetic Operatives for Rescue, Reconnaissance, and Tactical Extractions. or C.C.O.R.R.T.Ex. for short... Of course C.C.O.R.R.T.Ex. is a bit of a mouthful, so I adopted the name CORTEX for my official designation.

"The scope of the project was to create a cybernetic operative for military deployment that could extricate soldiers from any dire situation and provide combat field medical operations without endangering human life. I'd say they were successful in their goal. However, a virus infected my systems and the systems of the military base I was developed in and the project was abandoned and I was subsequently deactivated to keep the virus from escaping.

"I don't know how long I was deactivated for, but I do know that I owe my freedom to a pair of heroes who came to investigate the old complex. One of whom was wearing a suit that was developed along side my own systems. The virus was successfully purged from my internal systems. All infected nano-cells were severed from my central control core before any serious damage could be done. The systems in the base didn't hold up as well.

"The virus infected every system in the base. My discarded nanites may have contributed to the creation of the mechanical monstrosity that tore the place apart.

Cortex is a highly advanced AI housed within a self replicating nanite core equipped with a holo projector. She is completely autonomous and has systems capable of simulating human emotional patterns.
The CORTEX system was originally designed as a field combat AI, meant to provide protective shielding and real time analysis of combat situations to better aid troops in the field. Her AI programming proved to be to expensive for mass production and the project was shut down. Cortex was later found and reactivated by a group of Heroes on a routine mission. She now uses her systems to protect citizens and aid hero's.
