FILE: SWIFT

Eric Surhoff was born the son of Chief Surhoff and his wife Janice in the suburbs of Michigan. Even as a young boy, Eric wanted nothing more than to be a super-hero, or the second best option a law enforcement official leading him to greatly look up to his father who is the Police Chief of MCPD. He and his friends would spend endless hours designing super-hero costumes and heroic identities for themselves. As a child Eric was naturally athletic and multi-talented in multiple aspects; he was the Junior World Mixed Martial Arts Champion, a brilliant hacker with a photo graphic memory, and a highly skilled free-runner (parkour activist). At this precocious age, the seeds of Eric's future crime-fighting career began to foment........until he entered Middle School. Gang activity ran rampant through Westside and the schools where no different, in fact that was the main recruitment tool for many of West Side's gangs such as the Cobra Lords which due to pressure from his peers Eric decided to join, a secret he kept from his father to this day. During his time as a Cobra Lord he honed his many fighting skills against the other gangs specifically the Cult of the Red Banner whose martial arts style complimented his own making him a better fighter with every encounter. His free running and agility also helped him escape the cops in multiple situations, even going as far as to embarrass the cops by back flipping into a risky escape maneuvers.

When Eric was 16, his mother Janice, a medic, was hit by a stray bullet, while helping the victims of a gang riot in Westside. She died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. The bullet that caused his mothers timely demised was shot by a Cobra Lord leading to him ultimately leave the gang. This incident triggered his hatred for gangs and injustice period. Due to this Eric unconsciously blamed his father for not being there and immediately became infatuated with the Gotham City's most legendary phantom of the night – the Owl. A couple of weeks later Eric found himself in an predicament that would ultimately change his life forever. Due to the shooting of the police chiefs wife the Cobra Lords had to move their base of operations as well as get rid of Eric "because the only way out of the Cobra Lords is in a body bag." Eric was aware of this and decided to take action first. In doing so Eric brought his childhood dreams into fruition and made a stylish, cowless version of The Owl's costume based upon designs that he first conceived as a child. Using his intellect and keen detective skills he picked up from his father. Eric quickly located the New Cobra Lords hideout and gets access to a window on the roof to listen in on the gangs plans, little did he know the Owl has been on their track for weeks due to their involvement with the gang wars.

Eric then cuts the power and using the MCPD issued night vision goggles he stole from his father's closet, disfigured, maimed, and knocked out every Cobra lord in the building........all except one who pulls a gun out on Eric due to his eyes finally adjusting to the dark. It was then the Owl struck saving Eric from an untimely demise. Though impressed with Eric's feat the Owl chided him harshly for his foolish antics, and warned him against pursuing such a reckless lifestyle. Hearing such criticism from a man he idolized for so long was a shock for Eric, but it did not deter him from his chosen path. After this meeting with his hero, Eric became even more infatuated with his hero, so much so he hacked the MCPD files and research every 6'3" male matching the body type of the Owl. Using deductive reasoning Gabriel Cole was the only one of the candidates that could actually afford the gadgets used by the Owl so we was the only viable choice. Upon this discovery Eric went to Cole's home late one night and snuck into a window Cole's butler opened to air out a dusty vacant room. From their he followed Gabe around the house, before long Mr. Cole took notice and snuck his way behind his stalker getting him in a head lock. Eric became frantic and elbowed Cole in the stomach loosening his grip and freed himself. Eric then began to explain that he knew he was the The Owl, Cole of course denied the charge but Eric then took out the mask from his costume and it all became clear to Cole that this was the masked boy from the other night. Once again thoroughly impressed by the boys detective prowess and being able to solve Cole's biggest kept secret, The Owl accepted him as a protege and took him through a grueling 6 month training regiment ultimately naming him Swift due to his swift reflexes and analytically skills.

The story of Osprey's beginning is a dark tale, a tale know to the Owl as "The Dawn That Never Came". The Owl and his loyal partner, Swift, fought to stop an army of mindless mutants that spread like a virus in the caves of the southwest desert. Bombs were set to stop the army in their tracks, leaving only rubble in its wake. Having been infected, Swift requested he be killed before he too would be changed forever. Swift: "Owl! I've been infected." Owl: "Keep moving, Swift! We will be out of this soon", they continue to run and Swifts movements become slower and slower. Swift: "Ughh. I.. I can't move." Owl: "You have to. You don't have a choice." Swift grabs the Owl forcing his to look at the state he is in. Swift:"You do. *cough* You have a choice." Owl: "No! Out of the question! We can make it to the..." Swift: "I won't make it to the lab! In a matter of minutes, I'll be one of them! Gabe!!!..please." The Owl cringes at the thought. Owl: "Dammit, I can't! I haven't taken a single soul. Not from any foe. Why would I start with you?" Swift: "Because you give a @#$% /! *cough cough*" Swift then begins wailing in pain. Swift:"Please... please just do it and leave me don't risk getting infected" Owl: "Eric." {BANG} The night ends in tragedy and mystery. The world loses the brave Swift.....or so they thought but The Owl has not been seen since. The Owl then runs off in the night doing as Eric wished. But he couldn't do it the bullet went through the ground only inches from his head, but Eric passed out from shock. When he awoke he found himself in an emergency room, apparently a Hazmat team was in the area and got him the antibiotics he needed just in time but along with the antibiotics went his secret identity and a worried and extremely angry father. after that day the hero known as Swift (this particular Swift) was seen no more.

After the incident Chief Surhoff decided it'd be best for him to make his son move to Vibora Bay, Louisiana with his cousin to keep him from working with and out of contact with the Owl. This worked for years until Eric became enrolled in MCU. Being back in Millennium city gave him an urge to fight crime once again. Against his father's wishes he contacted Cole after these many year's to find that he had a new swift and adopted son Alex Cole. Though Gabriel offered him a chance to re-assume his position as swift he realized that it was time to be his own man and came up with his own hero persona. From that day on he became the hero known as Osprey, named after the swiftest bird known to man as a homage to the name given to him by his mentor. Eric is now 26 and is a grad student at MCU majoring in criminal Justice with hopes of one day becoming an Officer for the MC Police Department, ultimately to be promoted to detective giving him a little more flexibility from the precinct. But at times when the city needs a savior he'll slip on his Osprey suit and take down the Villains of MC as the masked vigilante, and if the job is to much for a single soul he and The Owl will help each other during their times of need and are dual defenders of Millennium City.

FILE: PERSONALITY PROFILE

Osprey’s courage is amazing - he has faced so much danger and monstrous opponents straight from a nightmare since his early teens that he seems to be fearless and take physical pain in stride without much of a shock. To him it’s a mere part of his job, and he can actually defy physical or mental torture with a smile. Even when badly hurt, he’ll still act in a stalwart and generous way, saving innocents and bearing little grudge. Likewise, although his life has been a terrifying emotional grinder, he’s outgoing, gentle and well-adjusted. Despite being a huge hit with the ladies with his attractiveness, confidence and boy next door charm, his romantic life keeps turning into a minefield through little fault of his own. He keeps trying, though and has an easy, flattering, gently flirting manner.

FILE: SUIT

The Osprey suit is a bodysuit made of hardened kevlar plates on a titanium-dipped fiber and is broken into multiple pieces of armor over a more flexible bodysuit for greater mobility. Unlike his mentor The Owl Osprey does not have a cowl or cape allowing the wearer to freely swivel and move his neck without moving the rest of his upper torso as was a characteristic of his mentors previous version of the Owlsuit. The Osprey suit, has blades on the sides of it's gauntlets and are now retractable and are capable of firing outwards as projectiles. Lastly the frontal chest region contains an extra protective plate in the shape of the Osprey symbol.

FILE: MASK

The mask is made of a titanium dipped form fitting leather mold. Not only does the mask conceals Eric's identity but it also has "sonar-vision", in which signals emitted by mobile phones are converted into images in a similar way to sonar. In order to view the-said images, as well providing night vision. To enable this white lenses fold down from Osprey's mask to cover his eyes, the lenses are made of a highly tempered reflective glass that post images of the functions that the mask holds.

FILE: UTILITY BELT

The Utility Belt is a specialized belt Osprey wears to equip his crime-fighting gear. The utility belt is a modified climbing harness, with magnetized impact-resistant pouches, and canisters attached to the belt at ergonomic points for ease of reach. It carries a Magnetic Gas-Powered Grapple Gun, Preyrangs, a Medical Kit, Smoke Pellets, Sticky Web Clusters, remote control for his vehicles, mini-cam, money, and other unspecified equipment.

The Grapple Gun is a special item Osprey uses to scale up or rappel down tall buildings, or swing between Millennium City's skyscrapers on successive lines. Similar to a grappling hook and speargun, the line gun uses a strong clamp attached to a high-tensil wire for scaling surfaces and/or traversing gaps. It can be recovered by releasing the clamp and rewinding the cable. It was based from one that is designed as compact climbing gear for commando units.It is propelled with compressed air, and works with a magnetic grappling iron. The thin climbing cable was tested on a load-carrying capacity of 350 lbs.

Osprangs are roughly osprey-shaped throwing weapons used by Osprey. The name is a portmanteau of Osprey and boomerang. Although Preyrangs are named after boomerangs, they are more similar to shurikens.

Smoke Pellets use a formula that consists of an oxidizer (typically potassium chlorate, KClO3), a fuel (generally sugar), a moderate (such as sodium bicarbonate) to keep the reaction from getting too hot, and a powdered organic dye. The burning of this mixture evaporates the dye and forces it out of the device, where it condenses in the atmosphere to form a "smoke" of finely dispersed particles.

Web Cluster Grenades are high-powered projectiles containing a shear-thinning liquid (virtually solid until a shearing force is applied to it, rendering it fluid) that on contact with air, the long-chain polymer knits and forms an extremely tough, flexible fiber with extraordinary adhesive properties, which detonates on impact, and can be used to temporary incapacitate thugs.

The Talon is a bike without wheels that uses a propulsion system that grants the cycle the ability to hover. The bike is powered by a high-performance, water-cooled, single-cylinder engine - geared toward the lower end for faster acceleration and with no exhaust pipes. The exhaust is routed through the hollow steel/aluminum/magnesium tubing used for the frame of the bike. The Talon is steered by the shoulders instead of hands, and the rider's arms are protected by shields. The two foot pegs are set 3½ feet apart on either side of the tank, which the rider lies on, belly down. The engine noise was designed around the shepard tone, for which sound effects came, in part, from the sound of the Tesla Roadster's electric motor.

Endless nights were spent to perfect his skills his will to protect those he cares about drives him to push himself beyond what any normal human being could accomplish.

FILE: TECHNOLOGICAL SKILL

Prior to his career as a vigilante, Eric Surhoff developed many technological skills, including vast knowledge of computers and electronics, expert skills as a hacker, and advanced training in technological sciences. Surhoff is also written as having a genius-level intellect and naturally possessing a photographic memory. Like The Owl, Eric Surhoff originally used a wide variety of computer electronics and gadgets during his early adventures as Swift. These included an infrared scanner built into the mask of his costume, various bird-inspired weaponry and the "Talon: Grav-Bike."

FILE: PEAK PHYSICAL CONDITION

Eric Surhoff possesses the peak athletic strength and endurance of a man who regularly engages in intensive physical exercise, with the endurance that is comparable to that of the finest Olympic Decathlon participant.

FILE: MULTI-LINGUAL

Multi-lingual: Having had the finest education as Gabriel Cole's mentee, he speaks with fluency in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Farsi (Persian), Mandarin and Cantonese, and has some knowledge of Romany and the lost language of Lemurian.

FILE: AGILE

Surhoff is a prodigious natural athlete, possessing a peak human level of agility/acrobatic skills. Has been a trained free runner (parkour) since his youth, due to his childhood involvement in gangs, having to escape the cops aswell as his enjoyment of the activity. He was generally regarded as a major talent by his schools gymnastic coaches but never took advantage of the opportunity due to his feelings of being a gymnast would make him look like a sissy in front of his then Cobra Lord friends. The Owl himself is an incredible athlete in agility, but even he gives the advantage in that area over to Osprey.

FILE: MIXED MARTIAL ARTIST

Eric took numerous self-defense classes excelling in multiple arts such as Jujitsu, Boxing, Kick Boxing, Muay Thai, Ken-do, Akido,and Taekwondo in his years before becoming swift, due to his father figuring it would be a good idea for him to know how to defend himself being the police chiefs son and is described as being a "star athlete." Following the events that lead him to become Osprey, Eric Surhoff continues to train in the martial arts as Osprey. He has extensive skills with small firearms and preyrangs; she customarily keeps a pair nearby as a contingency.

Osprey is only human albeit a near perfect one. He is limited by his body and does not have any super powers or above human abilities but is the pinnacle of human fitness. He is susceptible to the same weaknesses that any regular person is with a little extra resistance due to his training. That is why he has to wear an armored outfit and have such well-honed skills.
