This desire to have at least one thing of her own led to a habit of downplaying her ability to sense her environment.<BR>For years Ren waited for an opening she could use to escape her handlers and leave behind the hell she was living in. Jamie, her partner in crime, was somehow able to get out before her, much to Ren's disappointment. She couldn't help feeling abandoned by the closest thing to family she'd ever known. At last, at the age of fifteen (or so) she got that opportunity. Whether it was an oversight or she was purposely allowed to think she'd managed an escape is unclear, nor did Ren particularly care. Background
Aliz was born, or possibly made, in a secret science facility hidden somewhere in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico. A team of rogue geneticists designed her to be the next step in human evolution. Her physical abilities were augmented giving her much greater strength, speed and agility than her slight frame would otherwise allow. Added to this was a significant regenerative ability, allowing Aliz to recover from most injuries, given enough time. Many of her fellow recombinants died within the first year or so until the only two that remained were Aliz and the human-avian hybrid who would become her only companion through the dark years ahead.
This is not to say that the girl who would come to call herself Jamie was Aliz's only source of comfort or help.
