Background and Origin

Life Before

When Inari was Aria, she was a quite girl; plain to look at and unremarkable in action. She wasn't dumb or incapable; quite contrary to how she acted and behaved, she was highly intelligent, but very lazy. She spent most of her time in books, comics, and video games, not wanting to do the work she was assigned because it was too easy and it bored her, much to the frustration of her parents and teachers. She could always show her brilliance when she spoke, but when it came to it, she didn't do anything to push herself. At least, not until high school. She suddenly found her reason to push herself after a supervillain attack brought the apartment complex she and her family lived in down around her. She thought her death had come to take her early, except when she opened her eyes, all she could see was a bright white star on the chest of a hero. Aria was saved by the Statesman, who carried her out of the rubble to safety before he continued his battle.
So enamored was she by the ability to leap into death's path and deny it from taking others, she sought to join the ranks of heroes and heroins that patrolled Paragon City. But she had no powers or extensive training in fighting, so she set about learning everything she could so she could set about making a suit of power armor. It was her only hope of becoming the heroin she knew she could be. If there was anything she had to contribute to the superheroic community, it was an abundance of creativity and brilliance she had finally found a use for. She graduated from high school, not quite the top of her class; she had lazed about too long for that to happen, but she would not let that stop her. She worked for two years at whatever job she could get to save for college. It was slow going and long hours, but she finally got accepted into Paragon University.
She dove into her studies with as much fervor as she could manage and pushed forward no matter how hard it got. She began to seek companionship online so she could continue learning while she talked with others; she was far too shy to meet anybody in person and didn't speak well with others. She found a woman who seemed to share her enthusiasm for all things foxes; myths, the living animals, anything. She agreed after a few months of chatting online that she would come visit Kyoto when Spring Break came around and plans were made to get her there. The awaited day came and Aria eagerly boarded the plane to Japan, never to be seen again.

The Change

Aria departed her flight, mildly shocked by her height over the local population. She stood head and shoulders over most of the Japanese population at 6'02", and her pale complexion further marked her as different. There would be no blending in for her while she was here. After going through customs and emerging from the airport, she hailed a taxi. She handed the cabby a list of directions her friend had sent her and he gave a nod and a smile before heading off. It was an uneventful two hours to the shrine in Kyoto, but it was better than some of the alternatives. She paid the cabby for her ride and left with her bags to wait in the courtyard for the woman she was supposed to meet. She passed through the typical bright red shrine that served as the gateway into the grounds, then walked past the pair of weathered fox statues that sat in the middle of the courtyard as if keeping watch. "Fushimi Inari-taisha," she spoke aloud as she waited for her friend to show up in the last moments of the dying sunlight.
She almost didn't notice the hand that swept around her as she sat down and pressed a cloth wetted with chloroform to her mouth and nose. There was a rotten smell, followed by clouded vision, and it would be the last time she saw the sun with her own waking eyes. She would be kept sedated for the next however long, her captors making sure she was never conscious for more than a few moments. She caught snippets and glimpses of what was occurring around her regardless. She was tied and chained down to an altar in the middle of a stone room, clad in a kimono that was large enough to swallow her up and have room left for three or four others to join her. There was chanting, and she couldn't make out much of what was said, but the pieces she could translate to English spoke of 'fulfilling the prophecy' and 'awakening the chosen vessel of the avatar'. Each time she began to awaken, she felt less and less. First it was colder, then she couldn't feel the cold. Then she couldn't feel the stone against her back or the iron on her wrists or ankles, and then final time she didn't feel anything at all. Not so much as a need to breathe. The final time she awoke, one of her captors placed a sealing tag to her forehead and her world plunged back into darkness once more.
The next time she awoke she was startled by how clear everything was. She had worn glasses before, but now she could make out the smallest details of the wall on the far side of the room. She could hear the heartbeats of the people around her and smell the slightest traces of anything that crossed her nose. She tried to sit up, but she was suddenly reminded of the chains that held down her arms legs and went over her torso just beneath her ample chest. What? She looked down and kimono blocked her view of her feet. She had never had that problem before; what was happening to her? She tugged on the chains frantically to get free and they snapped like they were made of Styrofoam. She pushed the shattered bindings from her and crawled off the altar she was laying on. She rose to her feet, towering over everything in the room. She knew she was tall, but this? It couldn't be real. He poked and prodded her form, not believing that this was happening. You don't get kidnapped and suddenly gain huge breasts and claws and fur. The more she thought about it, the more it didn't make any sense, and the more it didn't make any sense the more she panicked, and the more she panicked the more her tail twitched. Her tail? "What on earth is happ-" She cut herself short and clapped a strong hand to her muzzle. That wasn't her voice. Not in the slightest. She doesn't have a muzzle either. This has to be a dream.
She half walked half stumbled to a large highly polished gong and looked herself over. She was massive, standing somewhere around nine feet tall. A heavy chest and broad hips had suddenly made an appearance on her body, something puberty had never deemed fit to present to her growing up. Burnt orange fur covered her whole body, save for places highlighted by the purest white. She pulled back a sleeve of the kimono and she marveled at how even through the fur she could see the firm toned muscles she had never had before. Nothing was left of her old body.
She screamed in that unfamiliar voice as a hand grabbed her arm and she wrenched away, sending the hand's owner flying back and away from her. It was then that she realized that her captors were all dead or dying. Any that tried to copy the actions of the man who tried to capture her were so weak that they could barely stand, much less actually restrain the titanic fox from going anywhere. She couldn't be here. She would get blamed for this. She hobbled off as best she could, confused and disoriented and off balance from the new body. She stopped on the way to get her bags, not that they would do much good, but she couldn't leave her belongings for others to find and tie her to this. She took her bags and left, stumbling in a daze until she emerged from a hidden doorway in Fushimi Inari-Taisha and wandered away. Whispers followed her wherever she went, and what surprised her most was that she could understand them. "Is that Inari-sama?" one would ask. "No, Inari-sama was a man," came the answer. "That must be the Lady." She didn't want to get their hopes up. "You're both wrong. Inari-sama had no gender, but appeared as either," piped up a third. She practically began running at this point.
Twelve hours later and having quite a mixed reaction from the populace of fear, worship, and indifference, she arrived at the airport that would take her to Fukuoka International Airport, then back to her home in Paragon City. She could hide there; there were heroes, and aliens, and radiation mutated monsters everywhere it seemed. Sometimes it felt like there were more heroes than citizens, but that was what would make it easy to hide. Who would notice the Avatar of Inari amongst all the other unusual beings? The flights home were miserable; her seat was cramped, her tail was all but crushed under her weight, a screaming baby behind her made her ears hurt, and the fat man beside her who didn't seem to know about soap or deodorant was a constant assault on her nose. She took what little money she had left after she got back to Rhode Island and visited one of the hero tailors to make her a costume to help her blend in more, rather than the flowing and elaborate kimono she had on. She left the airport and headed back to her dorm room, unsure of what to do with herself now.

Rise of Inari

Aria got back to her dorm early in the morning. Spring Break was still going on, so most students would be away and she would be free from being asked questions constantly about her new appearance. The Statesman had died while she was gone, and the city would be having a funeral and she would attend if it was the last thing she did. He had saved her life and given her purpose, and even if that purpose was now confused, she would at least tell him thank you, even in death. Something she had never been given a chance to do. Weeks later, she was in the crowd of metahumans, citizens, and other heroes and converted villains who owed so much to the man who had done so much for them. She whispered her thanks as the coffin passed, then quietly slipped away once Positon had finished the eulogy. Back in her dorm room, she her life was upside down. She couldn't continue college like this, nor could she just abandon her dream of being a hero. She would use her new body and power to that end, that was certain, but she had seen the reactions of the Japanese; would she be accepted? She turned on the news, hoping to see at least some glimpse of her idol on the news, but all that was talked about was the Qulaar invasion of Millennium City.
She rushed off, literally flying there under her own steam. She would figure that out later. She just needed to get to her parents. When she arrived, she found much of the city under a dome. This wouldn't stand in her way. She wouldn't let it. She pounded on the energy field, eventually managing to make a temporary crack large enough for her to get through and let some of the civilians that needed rescuing out. The crack resealed itself and she began her search. It didn't take long with her newfound senses of smell and hearing, and she found them huddled in a ruined building in an area the Qulaar seemed to be ignoring. She spent an hour talking with them, convincing them that this wasn't some joke or horrible trick, that the giant fox in front of them really was their daughter, but in the end, she finally got them to accept what she said was true. She got them to a safety zone and her relief turned into rage. She had already lost the man who had given her purpose, she would not allow bugs from space to take her family as well. She fought and grew angrier with every encounter. The angrier she got, bigger and stronger she became until she was swatting Qulaar drones out of the air while thirty feet tall.
A loud peal of thunder grabbed her attention, and she turned to see the Ironclad Defense enacted from the Champions Headquarters. She shrank back down as the Qulaar fled; there was no need to chase them down. They were beaten, and she was neither animal nor monster despite her appearance. Since the Invasion, she has lived with her family in Millennium City, finally the hero she always wanted to be by prowling the city at night and hunting those that would prey on the innocent.

Powers, Skills, and Attributes

Known Powers

Power 1 - Size Manipulation: Inari is able to control her size at will, either growing or shrinking depending upon the scenario at the time. This ability is tied in closely to her emotions, and in battle as she sustains attacks she grows angry and thus larger and stronger. The largest seen thus far allowed her to peer in the windows of the third story of a building. The upper limits of this ability are unknown.

Power 2 - Flame Flight: Inari is capable of enveloping herself in flames to allow her to fly with moderate speed from place to place.

Power 3 - Healing Factor: Inari possesses an advanced healing factor that enables her to recover from most wounds near instantly. The full extent of this healing ability is unknown as she has been understandably hesitant to test the ability to it's full potential.

Power 4 - Invulnerability: Inari is quite resistant to the standard weapons encountered in the line of duty, with most ballistic rounds leaving nothing more serious than a tender bruise beneath her fur. Coupled with her regenerative abilities, she is quite difficult to bring down, making her an excellent front line combatant.

Power 5 - Super Strength: Inari possesses immense strength unnatural even for a being her size. She has been seen to lift an entire Viper Anaconda Tank over her head with little effort. As with her Healing Factor and Size Manipulation, the true extent of this ability is unknown.

Skills

Skill 1 - Technology: Despite her appearance and abilities, Inari is quit the capable inventor of gadgets and devices. While they do not always work as intended, they do function with whatever purpose the vixen may or may not have intended without fail.

Skill 2 - Technomancy: Given her body's ease of mana manipulation and her love of technology, it wasn't a far stretch for her to find somebody to teach the large vixen the art of technomancy. At her current skill level she is able to mentally control any machines in the immediate vicinity, power them with her mana, and even hack and manipulate data with her mind.

Gear and Equipment

Gear

Weapon - Inari carries no weapons with her, but due to her great strength, she is more than capable of wielding any object she can pick up as a weapon and to devestating effect.

Armor - Inari's usual hero work costume is a tough but flexible carbon steel mesh that is tough enough to stand up to the usual rigors of a superhero's exploits, but has enough flexibility to keep from impeding the vixen's movement.

Relationships

Lover

Inari has no significant other.

Friends/Allies

Currently no allies in battle.

Enemies

No major known enemies.

General Perception

The public knows of Inari's ferocity in battle and her close ties to the Shinto deity of the same name, with some even believing her to be the Lady Herself. While the law abiding public of Millennium City may be uneasy about the bestial woman at the worst of times, those that lurk in the shadows of Westside are frightened of her for it is common knowledge that the giantess has little control of her physical strength when angered, and those she fights are liable to wind up in the hospital for a long time.
